Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th October 2023.

18th October, 2023.

Right …

It’s now officially, Wednesday.

Normally?

I’d’ve had my nephew over, yesterday: except, of course, he’s gone down with a cold!

Bless him!

If you’re a Dr Who fan in the UK … ?

You’ll know that the BBC’s going to make the entire Dr Who back catalogue to UK viewers from 1st November: through its iPlayer catchup service.

Classic Dr Who, Torchwood, Class, The Sarah Jane Adventures, the works.

With one exception: the first story, “An Unearthly Child”.

Rights issues: Stef Coburn, son of the episode’s writer, Anthony Coburn, has refused permission for it’s inclusion.

I am tempted to swear.

Granted: writers and their families should be fairly compensated.

But Mr Coburn had few to no issues when he raised this issue in 2013.

I think he’s being … extremely unreasonable: and very irrational.

And — in some of his posts — delusional.   Slightly less rational than Donald Trump!

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, I felt telling you where you can watch the story: or, at least, passing on the article that gives you the directions.

It’s here.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th October, 2013, saw a Middle Eastern nation refuse a seat on the UN Security Council.    Which Middle Eastern nation?

Q2)        Félicette was launched into space on 18th October, 1963: by the French space agency.   Félicette was a what: cat, dog or chimp?

Q3)        18th October is the feast day of Luke the Evangelist.   He’s one of the four Evangelists who are said to have written one of the Four Gospels.   Name one of the other three evangelists.

Q4)        18th October is Necktie Day.   Where: Serbia, Croatia or Montenegro?

Q5)        Finally … ?   18th October, 1867, saw the USA acquire where: Alaska, California or Louisiana?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th October saw one country legalise the recreational use of cannabis.   Which country: Canada, Mexico or China?
A1)        Canada.

Q2)        This took place on 17th October of which year of the 2010s?
A2)        2018.

Q3)        The cannabis plant, itself, has its origins, where: Africa, Asia or Europe?
A3)        Asia.

Q4)        Known strains of cannabis are pollinated by what: bees, flies or the wind?
A4)        The wind.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Cannabis is a what: moss, herb or cactus?
A5)         A herb.

Here’s a thought …
“Bilingualism is an imposition on the state and not the citizens.”
Pierre Trudeau, October 18, 1919 – September 28, 2000.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It sounds like you’ve got a lot of dental work ahead of you, Olga: good luck with it!
Good news doesn’t even start: the repairman ran me through some basic maintenance — hot washes with soda crystals — as a way of keeping the pipes clear.   Beer line cleaning’s a lot easier!   As are some instruction manuals!   Best ones I read were for putting Ikea furniture together: apparently, they based theirs on Lego’s!
You might want to pick up Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll (The Essential Collection), as well: it’s the Best Of collection they did a few years ago, and doesn’t include “Plaistow Patricia”!   (That’s the one I always worry about playing with Jude over: it’s a bit … explicit!)
Trust me: I’m trying to keep my eyes peeled on weight loss meds.   It’s … well, complicated!

        Hello, Mum!

I figured you would, Debbi!   :D   Hopefully the treatment last: the next ten question sets are on the 25th and 31st October, and the 8th November.   I’ve tried going for nice and short!
Oh, have you been following the An Unearthly Child story?   The person who’s causing the problems sounds less rational than Donald Trump.   (Apparently?   He’s left the IP rights in his will to the Russians.)

Q3) Matthew

Q4) Croatia

Q5) Alaska
Wow, on the Dr Who saga. He sounds pretty bonkers, to be honest (and that is my professional as well as my non-professional opinion).
My mother uses vinagre as well to clean the washing machine. Soda crystals are good for an incredible amount of things (clearing/cleaning pipes around the house as well, very dirty washing as well as very dirty washing up). And the combinations of vinagre (cleaning vinagre) and soda... It's a winner.
I hope your nephew gets better soon. The changing weather here is enough to send one's head and body into a spin. (My mother seems to go from cold to cold these days).

Good to see that you have got your washing machine repaired.

I saw the bad news about the loss of the first four episodes of Doctor Who from the iPlayer.
