Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th October 2023.

5th October, 2023.

Did I mention I’ve got a Christmas playlist in my Music app?

I’ve got a Christmas playlist in my Music app.

So you know.

I’ve got it on as I write.

Quite why “Vienna” is in that list, I don’t know.

Oh, just as a quick thought … ?

You’ve heard of Ian Dury’s classic LP, New Boots and Panties?

It turns out there’s a tribute version called Brand New Boots and Panties: I’m just playing it, now … Sinead O’Connor’s version of “Wake Up and Make Love To Me” is something else!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        5th October is World Teacher’s Day.   It’s organised by which United Nations agency: UNESCO, UNIDO or the UPU?

Q2)        The first fighter plane to shoot down another aircraft, did so on 5th October, 1914.   The downed plane was German.   The plane that shot it was from where: the UK, France or Belgium?

Q3)        5th October, 1947, saw President Truman make the first televised what: State of the Union address, Oval Office Address or King’s Speech?

Q4)        Ray Kroc was born on 5th October, 1902.   He’s credited with making which restaurant, successful: Pizza Hut, McDonald’s or KFC?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Donald Pleasence was born on 5th October, 1919.   Which James Bond villain did he play in You Only Live Twice?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        France adopted its current constitution: on 4th October, 1958.   That Constitution is the Constitution of where: the Third French Republic, Fourth French Republic or Fifth French Republic?
A1)        The Fifth French Republic.

Q2)        More to the point … ?   How many amendments does the current constitution have: twenty-four, twenty-five or twenty-six?
A2)        Twenty-four.

Q3)        Charlton Heston was born on 4th October, 1923.   He played the title role in which 1959 film: The Alligator People, Ben Hur or Carry On Nurse?
A3)        Ben Hur.   (Heston never appeared in a Carry On film. That could have been interesting!   There was also talk that Ben Hur’s writer and director felt one onscreen relationship Hur had, would have homoerotic undertones.   But they won’t going to tell that to Heston: he was an old school conservative, and would’d’ve objected.   Quite how true that is, I don’t know, though.)

Q4)        Sputnik was launched on 4th October.   Of which year of the 1950s?
A4)        1957.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Maria Sophie of Bavaria was born on 4th October, 1841.   Bavaria is now part of where: Germany, Austria or Switzerland?
A5)        Germany.

Here’s a thought …
“I don’t like horror films.   I’m interested in them, but if there were three kinds of film playing across the road at my local cinema, the horror film would not be the one I would go to see.”
Donald Pleasence, 5 October 1919 – 2 February 1995.
And a song …

Don’t play that if the dog’s in the room!

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I THINK I’d have more luck with the Rosetta Stone, Olga: his school’s quite good!   (It’s a local religious school: he’s turning into an atheist!)
Yep: that sounds about right!   You should see what some of the contestants are like on University Challenge!   Dearie, dearie, me … !

        Hello, Mum!

I’ll let him know, Debbi!   :D   Good luck with the competition!
(Oh, that Ian Dury LP I mentioned, today?   Has a version of “Blackmail Man” on it: I had to Google the lyrics as the rhyming slang in it is really obscure!)
