Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-12-2023 — Spain

6th December, 2023: Spain.

Right … it’s officially Wednesday.

And, frankly?

I’ve got a video review up: and we — courtesy of Jude — have more Mikey the Rabbit!

~≈Ω≈~

In other news?

I’m officially off to my opticians, this morning.

I’m convinced the trouble I’m having with my eyes … is something to do with my new spectacles.

Here’s hoping.

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        6th December is Constitution Day in Spain.   The current Spanish constitution was ratified, when: 1977, 1978 or 1979?

Q2)        Part three of the Constitution is about the Spanish legislature.   That legislature is the Cortes … what?

Q3)        The Cortes meets in which Spanish city: Barcelona, Madrid or Seville?

Q4)        Which of those three cities — Barcelona, Madrid or Seville — is Spain’s capital city?

Q5)        Spain is a what: monarchy, republic or theocracy?

Q6)        Galicia, Catalonia and the Basque Country are Spanish what: nationalities, colonies or cities?

Q7)        The Parque Güell, Palacio Güell, Casa Mila, Casa Vincens, Nativity Façade and Crypt of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and the Crypt at the Colònia Güell are all UN World Heritage sites.   They were all designed by whom: Antoni Gaudí, Pablo Picasso or el Greco?

Q8)        Spain is on the Iberian Peninsular.   What’s the other country on the Peninsular: Germany, Portugal or Libya?

Q9)        Juan Antonio Bardem, Pedro Almodóvar and Luis García Berlanga, are Spanish what: directors, actors or novelists?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Spain is the world’s largest producer of what: olive oil, white wine or wheat?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        5th December, 1766, saw James Christie hold his first sale.   The company that now bears his name is a what: department store, auction house or greengrocers?
A1)        Auction house.

Q2)        According to the UN, 5th December is World what Day: World Air Day, World Banana Day or World Soil Day?
A2)        World Soil Day.

Q3)        5th December is Krampusnacht.   Where: Austria, the USA or Morocco?
A3)        Austria.

Q4)        5th December, 1974, saw BBC 2 air the last episode of what: Ask the Family, Call My Bluff or Monty Python’s Flying Circus?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Tony Crafter was born: on 5th December, 1940.   He was an umpire at which sport: association football, test cricket, or rugby league?
A5)        Test cricket.   (If I’ve understood it correctly?   In test cricket, umpires And referees are two different officials.)

Here’s a thought …
“During the Age of Discovery, Spain formed one of the largest empires in history; it extended across the Atlantic to the Americas and across the Pacific to the Philippine Islands.”
From the Wikipedia article about Spain.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        I know the machines you mean, Olga.   From what I’ve understood, they’re usually prescribed, for free in the UK, to anyone with Type 1 diabetes.   Their sugar levels are more erratic than those of us with type 2, who have to buy these machines!   I’m going to have to see what happens, at Christmas time, I think.
I’m planning to have a word with my GP, though: once I see — ha! — how the eye test goes.
Oh, and my apologies about today’s Teaser video: my pronunciation is all over the place!

Oh, Hamilton was involved with the original argument, Debbi?   At least you can sing about banks, then!   (Oh, the second video seemed relevant: although I don’t know where it’s from: and about the only thing I knew about Jefferson, was he promoted wine making in the US.   The Gallo Brothers owe him a vote of thanks, if that’s the case!)

Not to worry about the pronunciation and thanks for today's questions. I went out with my mother, as we celebrate the Constitution Day with a bank holiday, and we got back quite late.
I hope you get answers soon. I remember you liked your new glasses, but...
My uncle has type II diabetes, and I seemed to remember that he said they had given him the machine but he had to buy the sticks. I know last time we went to Galicia he had a new machine and they were a bit confused as to how it worked. Perhaps they did buy it.
You are right though about the levels, although here it seems that at least some of type 1 sufferers now have a pump, and that analyses the blood (of course) so there might not be such a need for the machines for them.

  4. Hi, Paul. I can't remember if I had told you beforehand, but I'm meeting a friend today and we're meeting a bit sooner than usual, so it doesn't look as if I'll be able to join the teaser today (I'm not sure how long we'll be, but it usually ends up involving going to see an exhibition somewhere, having lunch, going for a walk, so not much time left for anything else). Tomorrow is another bank holiday here, but I hope to catch up with you all then.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
