Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2024 — Megiddo

16th April, 2024: Megiddo.

Right, then!

It’s officially Tuesday.

Which means … ?

It’s the day after Monday.

You don’t need me to tell you that!

But … ?   In case you’re interested … ?

I’ve actually lost weight: according to yesterday’s weight management meeting.

That’s something!

~≈¥≈~

Oh … another thing about today … ?

I’m due a visit from a repair man from my landlord.

A boiler engineer.

Yes: it’s boiler safety check day.

I’m going to be stuck indoors ’til he gets here!

~≈¥≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        16th April, 1457 BC, was the date of the Battle of Megiddo: the world’s first reliably recorded battle.   The site of the battle is in which modern country: Israel, Lebanon or Syria?

Q2)        The city of Megiddo is better known under its Greek name.   What is that name?

Q3)        That latter name is used for a battle at the end of the world, and is mentioned in a book of the Bible.   Which book: the First Book of Maccabees, the Epistle to Philemon or the Book of Revelation?

Q4)        The Canaanites were on one side.   Who were they fighting: the Egyptians, the Nubians or the Moabites?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Battle saw the first recorded use of what: chariots, composite bows or javelins?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15th April.   Of which year of the 1450s?
A1)        1452.

Q2)        He was born in which Italian state: the Papal States, Kingdom of Naples of the Republic of Florence?
A2)        The Republic of Florence.

Q3)        Leonardo spent time working for Ludovico Sforza.   Ludovico was Duke of where: Milan, Florence or Sicily?
A3)        Milan.

Q4)        The Lady with an Ermine is by Leonardo.   The lady is supposed to be Ludovico Sforza’s what: daughter, mistress or wife?
A4)        Mistress.   (Apparently, the ermine’s teeth follow you around the room.)

Q5)        Leonardo’s The Adoration of the Magi is one of his early, unfinished, works.   The Magi are better known as the Three Wise what: men, midgets or magicians?
A5)        Three Wise Men.   (We know a song about them!)

Q6)        Leonardo’s The Last Supper is on the wall of a church in Milan.   It’s a what: painting, statue or mural?
A6)        A mural.

Q7)        In 1502, da Vinci worked for a cardinal called Cesare … what: Borgia, Bambino or Berlusconi?
A7)        Cesare Borgia.

Q8)        Many years earlier, Leonardo drew what’s known as an “aerial screw”.   Many feel it’s an early what: jet plane, hang glider or helicopter?
A8)        A helicopter.   (The sail designs have been used for a modern drone.)

Q9)        A library in Turin has a manuscript by Leonardo.   A manuscript called the Codex on the Flight of what?
A9)        The Codex on the Flight of Birds.

Q10)        Finally … ?   Lisa del Giacondo was the model for Leonardo’s best known painting, the Mona Lisa.   The Mona Lisa is in a museum, where: New York, London, Paris or Munich?
A10)        Paris.
Here’s a quote …
“It has been claimed that this was April 16, 1457 BC [ … ] although other publications place the battle in 1482 BC or 1479 BC.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Battle.
Ana a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I haven’t seen it, Olga: but had heard it was postcard sized!   They possibly got it wrong in a Dr Who story called City Of Death: their version seemed rather large!   I’ll try and throw in a picture!   (As Debbi will possibly remind us?   The story was the first to film outside the UK: and be filmed in Paris.   And was written by Douglas Adams.)
You’re managing better than I could!   Six hours walking through anything would murder my knees!  Just as a thought, though … ?   Would some sort of shoe stretcher help?   My gran had some, to take the pressure off her corns!
And, just on an upside … ?   I’ve lost weight, this week!   Yay!

        Hello, Mum!

Yeah, sorry about that, Debbi!   The next two monster sets aren’t until the start of May: so that’s two weeks rest.   Um …
Oh, JUST as a thought … ?   Torchwood’s on the US branch of Amazon: although I don’t know if it’s affordable.   Series three, Children of Earth, is the most hideously beautiful piece of TV ever, bar a Buffy: The Vampire Slayer episode called “The Body”.   (You might find that episode a bit much, Debbi: Buffy’s mother dies of a brain haemorrhage …)

Thanks, Pete. I had walked on those shoes a lot of times before and never had any problems, so perhaps I did hit something and because the shoe is pretty hard I didn't notice it at the time, or perhaps the socks I was wearing (I normally wear those that protect the toes, but those were a bit thinner than usual). I think we have one of those somewhere as well at home...
Oh, and well done on the weight front!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
