Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th November, 2021

18th November, 2021.

I’ve got To admit: I’ve been following Star Trek — in it’s various forms — for some years.

Recently?   That’s included Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard.

Today?   Was due to see the US release of Star Trek Discovery’s fourth season.

Internationally: both inside and outside the US?   It was due to be released, tomorrow.

Except that release has been cancelled: as Netflix, the international distributer, has lost the rights to the series.

The series will be aired internationally, next year.

Personally … ?

I’m not happy: as, from what I can tell, many others.

Can I make a suggestion?

What I think’s going to happen is the Paramount+ are going to lose money.

Why?

Because a lot of annoyed fans will download TorBrowser, so they can visit torrent tracking sites like Pirate Bay, LimeTorrent or KAT*.

Then install torrent clients, to download any torrent files they’ve got from the sites.

Including the first episode of Discovery, which is on Pirate Bay as we speak.

Not that I’m encouraging it.

But I can understandably perfectly why annoyed fans would go for that.

In allowing this … ?

Paramount and CBS will loss cash.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Edith‡, Mum^ and Debbiª putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Alan Moore was born on 18th November, 1953.   He wrote for which British comic: The Beano, Whizzer and Chips or 2000AD?

Q2)        Margaret Attwood was born on born November 18, 1939.   Which of her novels has been turned in to a TV show with Elisabeth Moss?

Q3)        18th November is the feast day of Saint Mabyn.   The village, parish and church named after her is in which English county: Cornwall, Devon or Somerset?

Q4)        Malcolm Young died on 18th November, 2017.   He’d been a member of which band: AC/DC, INXS or Crowded House.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Bell Telephones offered the first electronic push button phones to the public: on 18th November, 1963.   To the public in which US state: Pennsylvania, New York or California?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Suez Canal was inaugurated, on the 17th November of which year: 1869, 1870 or 1871?
A1)        1869.

Q2)        The northernmost end of the Canal are on the shores of Port Said and Port Fuad.   This end of the Canal is where: Egypt, Sudan or Libya?
A2)        Egypt.

Q3)        The Southernmost end of the Canal is in Suez Port.   Suez Port is in which country: Egypt, Sudan or Libya?
A3)        Egypt.   (Funny how Egypt keeps cropping up.)

Q4)        The Northern end is in the Mediterranean Sea.   The south end is in where: the Dead Sea, Red Sea or Redemption Sea?
A4)        The Red Sea.

Q5)         Finally … ?   The Ever Given got stuck in the Suez in 2021.   What IS the Ever Given: an oil tanker, a container ship or a cruise liner?
A5)        A container ship.
Here’s a thought …
“I’ve always felt that stylists such as you have in America are ashamed of a car and are preoccupied with making it look like something else, like a submarine or an airship … as an engineer, I revolt against this.”
Alec Issigonis, 18 November 1906 – 2 October 1988.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The sites I mention, there, can only be opened with TorBrowser.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed on the Case Worker front, Olga.   The continuity of service can be helpful.   Thankfully, though?   The worker I’ve got at my next meeting, the one tomorrow, is someone I’ve dealt with, before.   So that’s good.   I can at least air my doubts.
At any rate … Feel free to use Suez … !   :D

        That's very self aware, Edith!

^        Hello, Mum!

ª        It’ll be a sad day, I think, Debbi!   (Oh, did you hear about Star Trek Discovery?   It’s now off Netflix: and won’t get an international airing until next year … )

Good. Keep us posted on Friday's meeting. It's always easier when you know the people. I have to attend an anniversary celebration on Saturday for the radio. It's a community space (an empty plot the local community took over, and now there is a vegetable patch, an area for children to play, and also somewhere for the elderly to sit and have a chat (and also play something similar to bowls, petanca, very similar to the French version). I went to visit it in January, so I'm looking forward to seeing what has happened since. It is good to follow on one of the news items, although it doesn't always happen.
Sorry about the new Star Trek series. I have watched some of it at some points, but I haven't eagerly awaited a series for a while now. Perhaps it will come back, but at the moment I've gone off them. Take care
