Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th November 2025.

26th November, 2025.

Right: it’s officially Wednesday.

And … ?

It’s going to be a quiet morning in.

Because … ?

I have my annual gas safety check, this morning.

That’s assuming I’ve filled in all the forms, correctly!

~≈👷🏻‍♂️≈~

I have to admit: I notice things on the BBC’s news site.

One that caught my eye, yesterday?

Was this piece: that tells me Justice Secretary, David Lammy, is planning to drop jury trials for all but the most serious offences.

I’m no expert, and very aware the justice system is struggling.

But I’m not sure I like the idea.

After all, the right to a jury trial, a trial before a jury consisting of one’s peers?

Is an ancient one.

And, I believe, a fair one.

Much fairer than being tried by a judicial kangaroo …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th December 2024

26th November. 2024.

Right … it’s officially a busy day.

I’ve got to help Mum, lunchtime: taking a TV up to Brentwood’s tip.

Here’s hoping that goes well!

~≈♻︎≈~

Hmmm …

I follow technology news: however half-heartedly.

And notice that Microsoft have introduce a cheap desktop called the Windows 365 Link*†.

One that’s aimed at the enterprise market, and that runs — if I’ve understood things correctly — a cloud-based, subscription version of the Windows operating system.

The machine, itself, is relatively cheap.

But I don’t necessarily think the subscription model — for the software — will be popular with home users.

I know at least one person who’s asked for alternatives to MS Office: as they object to the monthly fee.

How well the Link would play in the home market … ?

I don’t know.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th November 2023.

26th November, 2023.

Right … thingummy do dah wossname YURT … !

On a more serious note … ?   At least, on a note that say “I got some sleep, last night … ?”

It’s finally Sunday?

And?

I have no major plans: beyond finishing my written and video reviews of The Star Beast: last night’s first 60th anniversary episode of Dr Who.

It’s an interesting watch, I think: but I’ll let you know more, later.

I will tell you this, though: the new credits look rather good …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-11-2022: Here’s Looking At You, Kid.

26th November, 2022: Casablanca.

Right … it’s now Saturday.

And?   Frankly?

I’m going to town, today.

There’s always something we forget to buy, isn’t there … ?

~≈¥≈~

Which reminds me … I’ve got another weight management meeting: in December.

Thankfully?

The young woman who’s organising it has managed to suggest an own-brand sweetener from one specific store.

I usually buy great big bags of sugar from Sainsbury’s: given the amount I use, that lasts three to six months, and roughly 60p to £1.25 a month.

It’s not the best solution: especially for a diabetic trying to lose weight.

So?   The suggested sweetener — whilst it’s not in the industrial sizes I’d prefer — does look affordable: compared to the others that shop sells.

We’ll have to see if I can find a jar of it in the High Street.

It looks cheap enough to experiment, if nothing else.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th November, 2021.

26th November, 2021.

Right …

Let’s start with the weather: It’s officially looking chilly out.

There’s enough of a chill in the air to make heading for my weight loss class — at the bottom end of London Road — a daunting prospect.

The venue’s at the bottom end of London Road: which is quite a walk.

On the upside?

I’ve had a call from my Restart case worker.

She’s managed to find me a place with at the Chelmsford office.

It’s not that much closer, or cheaper.

But the trips shorter.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-11-2020: Thanksgiving

26th November, 2020.

It’s got to be said, you have to ask what’s going on, occasionally …

Especially in a world where the deep deserts of Utah start sprouting monoliths.

How weird are those?

Possibly not weird enough: when you realise whoever’s installed it … isn’t a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It’s the the wrong shape to be the monolith.

~≈¥≈~

Something else I’ve managed to pick up … ?

Is a little bit of news about the upcoming Dr Who special, Revolution of The Daleks.

Guess who’s back … ?

Ahem!

~≈¥≈~

Just as a last point … ?

Yesterday saw Chancellor Rishi Sunak made various announcements in a major spending review.

One of those … ?

Is what he called the Restart scheme.

It’s aimed at those of us who’ve been out of work for more than a year, back into work.

Frankly?   It sounds too much like the Work Programme I had to do, many years ago: one that was distinctly unhelpful.

I expect this — if I end up having to sign up for it — to be just as helpful.

The announcement he didn’t make?

Was about Universal Credit: the benefit those of us in the UK claim, if we’re out of work.

It’s been put up by roughly £20 per week, as a result of COVID-19.

And is due to end in April.

Mr Sunak didn’t say whether it would be removed, or made permanent.

Merely that an announcement would be made, nearer the time.

I hope it stays at its current level.

The extra few quid are bloody handy!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-11-2019: Anarchy in the UK

26th November, 2019.

Right …

It’s the 26th November, 2019.

And if, like me, you are in the UK?

You have until 11:59, tonight, to register to vote.

I believe you can do that at your local town hall.

But know that you can do it online, here …

There IS a certain amount of irony, there.

A post that mentions Anarchy in the UK … is telling people to do something …

~≈Ç≈~

Are you a film fan?

I am: or, at least, I like watching them.

And couldn’t help but notice the reports around the recently released Blue Story.

Especially ones blaming trouble at one multiplex, on the film.   One cinema chain has reinstated it, I should add: after dropping it.

I’ve one question, for starters.

In that original incident?   What the bloody hell were the site’s security doing?   How the hell did they drop the ball so damn far, several police officers were injured?

A second?

From what I can see, the kids who caused the problems were in the thirteen to fifteen age range.

How on Earth did a bunch of thirteen year olds get into see a film with a Fifteen rating?   What were the staff doing?

I think the blame lies with the staff, not the film!

I’m also tempted to think we’re looking at a potential — and unwarranted — media frenzy.

One similar to that which occurred after A Clockwork Orange was released in the UK.

Similar to the frenzy surrounding First Blood, in the wake of the Hungerford Massacre.

Similar to the frenzy around Child’s Play 3, after the murder of James Bulger.

In all of those cases?   I’m tempted to blame, not the movies, but the criminals.

The films — at most — may have suggested how to commit the crime, rather than encourage the killers.

But, from what I can see of the relevant Wikipedia articles?   There’s no evidence the killers saw the movies concerned.

Just as — from what I’ve understood of the news reports — the children involved in the gang fight …were too young to get in to see Blue Story.

My question is NOT Why is this film out.

My question is What were the staff doing … ?

Because they weren’t doing their jobs.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-11-2018: Simply The Best

26th November, 2018.

Yes: it’s a Monday morning …

And, were I working, I’d be back at work.

Instead … ?

I will of course, be job hunting.

Theoretically?

I’m due to hear — either today or tomorrow — about a phone interview I’ve had.

Hopefully?   I’d get a face to face one, too.

Actually bagging the job would be nice.

It’s literally around the corner … !

I’m hopeful: but big enough to be realistic about these things.

We’ll see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-11-2017: Casablanca

Bloody Hell, I only bought them on Friday … !

I ordered trousers from Amazon: on Friday, obviously.

Both pairs?

Turned up yesterday!

One with the postman, the other on the back of an Amazon van.   That’s been handed to a neighbour, and is something I’ll pick up after work.

What amazes me?

Is the speed those trousers turned up.

Some twenty-four hours!   I’m wearing one pair already!

Dinah?   Say something!
