4th July, 2025: Independence Day.
Did you have a power cut, last night … ?
We did!
At about half past seven.
I thought my fuses had blown, but no, it was a power cut.
One that lasted for about twenty minutes.
UK Power Networks, who are responsible for the electricity infrastructure, were pretty quick in getting a message out.
Letting people know that a cable was at fault, and that electricity should be back on between nine and ten PM.
Thankfully? The cut didn’t last that long.
Just long enough for me to let the neighbours know I’d had a message about it.
It’s nice to see them … even if it’s at an awkward time!
Heigh-ho!

Just as a thought … ?
There’s been an announcement … !
Yes: the BBC’s announced that the next classic series to one released on Blu-ray is going to be season thirteen.
There’s no release date, as yet.
But … ?
I’m looking forward to seeing it.
It’s got a couple of favourite stories: including The Brain Of Morbius … !
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] question set, shall we?
Here it is, along with the How To, License and video.
Q1) 4th July is Independence Day in the USA. It declared independence in which year of the 1770s?Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q2) It declared independence from where: Great Britain, China or France? (I’m going to be picky, there)
Q3) Who was that latter country’s monarch, on the original Independence Day: George 3rd, the Qianlong Emperor or Louis 16th?
Q4) The US Declaration of Independence was unanimously passed by the Founding … whom?
Q5) Finally … ? Macy’s holds a Fourth July fireworks display on Independence Day. What is Macy’s: a department store, an army regiment or a public park?
Q1) 3rd July is the Feast Day of Saint Thomas the Apostle. He’s also known as what: Doubting Thomas, Denying Thomas or Diddling Thomas? Here’s a thought …
A1) Doubting Thomas.
Q2) According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, 3rd July marks the start of the what: Dog Days, Duck Days or Demon Days?
A2) Dog Days.
Q3) The 43rd state admitted to the US was admitted on 3rd July, 1890. Which state was it?
A3) Idaho.
Q4) The Falls Curfew started on 3rd July, 1970. It was a battle in which British city?
A4) Belfast.
Q5) Finally … ? Mohamed Morsi was removed from office: on 3rd July, 2013. Removed as President of where?
A5) Egypt.
“The Congress voted to approve independence by passing the Lee Resolution on July 2 and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4.”From the Wikipedia entry on the day.
And a relevant Donna Summer song …
The next ten question set is on 15th July: it’s about the Northwest Territories.
Comments and answers will be published, tomorrow morning.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* I’m keeping my fingers crossed, Olga. Hopefully, it will be easy to use, and relatively painless. My instinct about using the testing strips? Is that I should prick a finger on my left hand whilst holding the pin in my right … except, of course, that means blood all over my mouse. And holding the pin in my left hand ‘feels’ wrong!
Funny you should mention steam-punk. The first piece of real steam-punk I can remember was a table-top role-playing-game called Space: 1889. I keep meaning to try and track down a copy of the GDW original, as it looked like fun.
At any rate? I don’t know if there’s steam-punk elements in Max Headroom. It’s possibly more retro-futurism …
† Hello, Mum!
‡ It’s an interesting watch, Debbi. Utterly wrong in claiming the show was a failure, but still interesting … !
Which platform’s that episode on, Debbi … ? I don’t know that I can access the Substack version — I think there’s a fee involved — but I am subscribed to you on the Podcast.app.
