29th August, 2021.
It’s officially the case … that it’s vaguely sunny out.
OK, OK … sunny …
And relatively warm …
With a lot of clouds.
Which is good.
It means that — when I go out to buy some scouring sponges? — I can leave my coat at home.
Coatless or otherwise, though, I’ll be kicking myself.
I can’t believe I forget the blessed things, the last time I was in Sainsbury’s!
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Trevor†, Robin‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum and Robin on four.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) The Slava was launched on 29th August, 1903. It was a battleship of which country’s navy: Imperial Russia’s, Austria-Hungary’s or Imperial Germany’s?Q2) Netflix was launched on 29th August, 1997. What did it originally do: stream video, stream online radio or rent out dvds?Q3) 29th August, 1924, saw the birth of singer, Dinah Washington. She released her version of Ain’t Misbehaving in which year of the 1940s?Q4) Len Butterfield was born on 29th August, 1913. He played what for New Zealand: football, rugby or cricket?Q5) Finally … ? Charlie Yardbird Parker was born on 29th August, 1920. He played what: trumpet, saxophone or euphonium?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 28th August, 2020, saw the sad death of actor, Chadwick Boseman. He played which Marvel Universe character: Black Panther, Thor or Iron Man?Q2) Shania Twain was born on 28th August, 1965. Where’s she from: the USA, Canada or Mexico?A2) Canada.Q3) 28th August, 1962, saw the birth of director, David Fincher. Which of his films saw Brad Pitt play soap sales man, Tyler Durden: Panic Room, Mank or Fight Club?A3) Fight Club.Q4) William Herschel discovered a moon of Saturn: on 28th August, 1789. Which moon: Mimas, Enceladus or Titan?A4) Enceladus.Q5) Finally … ? Wayne Osmond — of the Osmonds — was born on 28th August, 1951. He, and the rest of the band, were from which US state: Utah, Texas or New Jersey?A5) Utah.
Here’s a thought …
“I believe we need heroes, I believe we need certain people who we can measure our own shortcomings by.”
Sir Richard Attenborough, 29 August 1923 – 24 August 2014.
And Dinah at her finest …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.
Have a good day.
* Hello, Mum!
† Sounds like it must have been noisy, Trevor: with both bands, there. I know the Latter Days Saints membership’s supposed to have gone up, when the Osmonds were having hits.
Did you know they were accused of promoting heroin? Someone got the wrong end of Crazy Horses. (Oh, the Alex Harvey band did a version! THAT must have been something to see life!)
‡ That must have been quite a gig, Robin: Shania’s supposed to be a very good live performer!
^ Its worth a go, Debbi. Tony Todd came up with the background for Candyman, himself: as both the script, and the original Barker short story, were sketchy about it. (The film version of the character is supposed to be a talented black slave, who worked as a painter: and fell in love with a white woman he’d painted. And, if I remember correctly, Bernadette — the main character’s best friend — is played by Kasi Lemmons: Ardelia Mapp from The Silence of the Lambs. She’s quite a well spoken of director, as well.)

Q3) 1948 I love Dinah Washington, although I just realised I hadn’t read about her life. She died so young! Did I tell you I recommended her version of ‘Mad about the boy’ to Anna to remember the meaning of ‘mad about’?
Q4) cricket
Q5) Saxophone (A very jazzy day today, Paul)
I survived (barely) la Festa major de Sants (It's proved a bit complicated due to the people who think they should ignore all rules and get drunk all night in the streets, but nothing to do with the organisers or the events), but it's done now, and the radio takes a break for a couple of weeks or so now. Just in case you want to see some pics, you can check the Instagram and the Twitter account of the radio station, here:

(Oh, I was there but missed the picture. And there is a link on that tweet to more images of the streets. They usually decorate the whole street, but this year only were allowed to decorate the tops of the streets, to avoid crowding the streets and people touching things.
