Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th May 2026

12th May, 2026.

You know … I get YouTube throwing videos at me, all the time!

Including for a James Spader vehicle, called The Blacklist.

Which, it has to be said, does look like fun.

But … it’s got me thinking I look like Spader’s character.

I wish: mostly that I had his pay check.

~≈$≈~

Which reminds me …

I’ve woken up, this morning, switched on my computer and found … that there’s an operating system update available.

macOS 26·5, if you’re interested.

It looks like there’s a lot of bug fixes in there …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th May, 2024.

12th May, 2024.

La La … Sunday, Sunday … !

If you’ll pardon the paraphrase!

At any rate … ?

I think I need to go back to bed: reviewing “Space Babies” meant a late night!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2023 — Burt.

12th May, 2023: Burt.

It’s officially official: I’ve had an over night earworm.

A song playing through my head, in others words.

I even know why.

I was editing a video, last night: and included a sneaky snap shot of the video of ‘Going Down to Liverpool’ in it.

As I’d used the word, ‘Liverpool.’

The net result?

I’ve had the thing earworming its way through my head, all night.

The only way to — possibly — combat that … ?

Is with a song or two from this year’s Eurovision.

This year’s Finnish entry … is even more over the top than Lordi!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th May, 2022

12th May, 2022.

Right … it’s official: I have a training course, today!

And not a job related one, either: I’m due to have an educational session about Type 2 diabetes, this afternoon.

Hopefully … ?

It’ll be entertainingly informative: rather than dryly informative.

~≈Í≈~

Oh, and yes: I’ve woken up with an earworm.

Stephen Duffy’s Kiss Me.

Why?

I’m blowed if I know!

~≈Í≈~

And, as a final point … ?

Yes: my nephew was over, yesterday: and yes.

There’s more video!

Would you mike hitting Like, Share and Subscribe … ?

Cheers!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2021: The Norge Pole

12th May, 2021.

Remember yesterday’s Teaser post … ?

Where I talked about the Voter ID provisions in the Queens Speech?

I’ve posted a few bits and bobs on Facebook, including a link to an official petition about it.

You can find that, here, if it’s something you want to sign.   Oh, and you’re in the UK.

I’ve ALSO emailed my MP about it.

If you’re in the UK, feel free to do likewise.

Here’s what I wrote, if you wanted to use a template:
“I seen today’s Queen Speech: and noted, with interest, the announcements about the Election Integrity Bill.
Including its provision for photo ID.
Can I ask if you’ll be voting for this bill?
As I feel there are objections to it: in particular, the clause about photographic ID.
As someone who’s unemployed?
The clause means spending money on ID.
Money I don’t have much of, as I’m on Universal Credit.
Money that needs to be spent on food and bills.
And money I don’t need to spend: on a human right — voting — that I can currently do for free.
It’s an objection I feel many I know will have: an objection that says you — and your fellow MPs — are making us buy our right to vote.
It’s not the only objection.
Because many will not be able to afford ID, this will reduce the number of people turning out to vote.
Something I know MPs have complained about.
Any MPs voting for this clause, including you?
Will be voting to reduce voter turnout.   Will be voting to reduce the number of people voting for them, and you.
Something that could well be fatal in marginal Conservative seats: and see your own majority fall.
I hate to sound crass: but an MP voting for this would be a turkey voting for Christmas.
As a final objection?
I’m told the bill is designed to prevent voter fraud.
And have to ask how  photo ID will prevent this: as most voter fraud is done through postal vote.   Something I know Eric Pickles, your predecessor as Brentwood and Ongar MP, has reported on.
With all this said?
I must reiterate and expand my original question.
Will you be voting for this bill?
And will you be voting for this clause?
Especially when it denies many of us a vote.”
You’ll find your MP, here.

As a final point?

I’m told that the government commissioned a report on the subject: here.

It specifically addresses the idea of free photo ID, twice: in the Introduction and Methodology section.

It’s good to see it acknowledged.

But?   As Radio Four’s Today programme has just pointed out?

There are STILL hidden costs, there.

You have to pay for the ID photos.   You’ll need to show proof of address: a bill, for example.   In all probability, you’ll need a birth certificate.

The last couple of times I needed photos?   I had to borrow money to get them: and travel to Chelmsford, as the photo booth in Brentwood wasn’t working.

Bills?   Mine are increasingly on line.   And printing them out at the library, difficult, under lockdown.

Don’t get me started on Birth Certificates: a replacement one costs anything up to £35 …

It’s …

Frankly?

Voter ID is a nice idea.

But it’s a badly thought out bad idea: with still too many hidden costs, and (possible) hidden damage …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2020: International Nurse’s Day

12th May, 2020.

Right … there is still stuff going on …

Plenty … except of course, COVID 19’s overshadowing a lot.

One thing I am keeping an eye peeled for … ?   Is the upcoming new film version of Dune: due to be released later this year.

A new publicity shot’s been released, courtesy of Empire magazine.

It show’s us Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides standing on an ornithopter wing: along side Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck.

It’s nice to see.

I do notice one thing, though.

The company behind the thing hasn’t released any shots of Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

I’m interested …

But hoping their visual cues from the TV version of the character — played by Ian McNiece — rather that the 1984 film version, played by Kenneth McMillan.

The latter … well, wasn’t quite the thing* …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2019: Stop Learing

12th May, 2019.

Yep: right now, it looks like the weather in my part of the UK … ?

Is starting to look vaguely spring like.

Which is nice: although I’m hoping we don’t get a repeat of last year’s blistering heat …

Whatever …

The one thing I do know … ?

Was that I went into Brentwood High Street, yesterday.

And got back just in time to avoid … hail … !

~≈§≈~

Hmmm …

I’ve got to confess, I’ve got Radio Four on at the moment.

Whilst I’m not especially religious?

The Sunday service — the LESS happy-clappy ones — can be rather soothing, first thing on a Sunday morning.

At ANY rate … ?

One thing I did catch, was this morning’s news.

Including a brief article about how a widow had had to get a court order, in order to be able to access her partner’s iCloud photos.

Annoying, it’s not showing up on the BBC’s website, as yet.

But … ?

With a recent death in the family, it’s something I’m aware needs doing: and that sorting these things out — before a death — is important …

If at ALL possible …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2018: Eurovision

12th May, 2018.

Yep: it’s officially Saturday, I’m dog tired …

And I’m going to be doing a long day.

Frankly?

I’m making just about enough to get by.

So long as I either get help from my family, OR don’t get electricity, OR heating …

Yep …

It’s a dilemma, isn’t it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-5-2017

Hmmm …

That’s something of a blow.

An old friend, Lorna, sent me an interesting job posting she’d spotted: wanting bloggers and writers to attend a film screening, and then do an enthusiastic post, afterwards.

I HAPPILY put in for it.

But didn’t notice the event was last week!

Blast … !

Still …

It got me thinking that I should look for magazines needing a complete amateur who wants to turn eight years of blogging into some form of cash.

 Here’s hoping … !

The Daily Teaser — 12-5-2016

Oh, now I hate that when that happens.

I had to phone in ill, yesterday!

Where my guts were — again — playing up.

Thankfully, and at the moment?

Things are looking a little calmer.

But, my gods!   It’s only now — affected by a long term condition — I can see that it has several effects,

It’s got a knock on affect on how much I get paid, psychologically …

And leaves me feeling very annoyed at how my body’s behaving!

I can safely say it’s leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Metaphorically, if nothing else.
