Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May 2025

4th May, 2025.

Dear lord … but I was up late!

The perils of review making don’t get any easier, the older you get.

Whatever!

If nothing else, though … ?

I can say I’ve posted written and video reviews of “Lucky Day”.

And seen quite a good episode!

~≈📺≈~

It’s possibly something I’ll have on in the background … but it seems Mark Williams has got through to Snooker’s World Championship finals.

That starts at noon: and should be interesting.

It sees the Welsh veteran go up against newcomer,  Zhao Xintong.

I can’t help but think Zhao will do very well.

Either way … ?

It seems both players are left-handed.

Speaking as an armchair snooker fan, an armchair snooker fan who’s also a southpaw?

I’m happy to see that!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May, 2024.

4th May, 2024.

Right … it’s the last Saturday before the start of Doctor Who.

That’s next Saturday, so you know: when BBC 1 airs the first two episodes*.

We’ll have to see how that goes, when it comes to the reviews!

~≈Ø≈~

At any rate …  ?

I’ve finally finished my most recent Star Trek Discovery review: both written and video.

I hope they’re enjoyable.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May 2023.

4th May, 2023.

It’s got to be said: it’s voting day, today, in this part of the world’s Local Elections.

Local Elections for local people: they don’t want strangers here.

If you’ll forgive me quoting The League of Gentlemen.

At ANY rate, it’s local election day: and, frankly?

I’m planning my usual thing: and planning to spoil my vote.

To me, it makes sense as a protest vote: especially as I see no-one I want to vote for.

Including the local Tories.

I grant you, the current crop genuinely seem to want to build a cinema in town: that still doesn’t mean I’m going to vote for them.

~≈🗳️≈~

Yes: it’s officially official.

Jude’s made another video.

And, as fun as it was, making it … ?

It’s not the one I know he wanted to make.

He’s got a GoPro camera, so you know: one that can record in 4k.

Which is where the problem starts: we’ve figured out how to sync his camera with various phones, and copy the footage to them …

But then uploading them to various free cloud services — Google Drive, in this case —, so we can download them to my computer …

Is a serious faff.

It took me seven hours, overnight, to upload a two minute video to my Drive.

Faff?   Is possibly understating it!

~≈¥≈~

I’m also very aware of something else.

The trailer for Dune Pt 2* has dropped: and looks interesting.

The fact I know one of the characters depicted is called Harah … is almost incidental!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May, 2022.

4th May, 2022.

Yes: it’s a quiet Wednesday.

One with something of a quandary.

I’m due a phone appointment with my GP at some point, today.

I don’t know when: as they don’t give you a time.

I also need to go and get milk, and order some more of my diabetes medications.

I can’t afford to phone, not on my money!

What to do … ?

Apart from muddle through, somehow, I don’t know!

~≈Ù≈~

I have to admit, I met a politician, yesterday.

Over the past few years?   I’ve had a minor issue: of local political parties shoving things through my door.

Despite my asking the local parties involved?

At least one — the local Liberal Democrats — have ignored my request.

Despite the fact they had a list of addresses who’d asked not to receive leaflets.   I know that because I used to deliver for them, around here.

I was grateful that I caught Dominic Naylor, the local Liberal Democrat councillor that’s standing for re-election, delivering their most recent batch: yesterday.

I took the stuff out of the letterbox, pointedly ripped it up, handed it back to him … and politely — I hope! — told him I’d rather not have their stuff put through my door.

I wish him well, and wish him luck.

But hope that theatrical bit of bluntness makes my point.

I really don’t want political leaflets through my door.

For All Mankind — Series 2 Episode 5 — The Weight — A Review

4th May, 2021.

It’s got to be said: Tuesday night TV is getting to be a tradition.

For me, at any rate.

I job hunt in the morning, I do whatever else needs doing, then I have dinner.

Chicken stew, if you’re asking.   And a baked spud.

The stew’s not bad: but needs work, I think.   Or more carrots.

Or different stock, possibly.

Maybe some bacon.

At any rate: once I get dinner eaten, I’m ready to watch another episode of whatever series I’m following.

In this case?   Episode five of the second series of For All Mankind.

I’ll tell you more about it, tomorrow night.

Assuming I can make sense of my notes, that is!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-5-2021: Audrey

4th May, 2021

Did I mention I like snooker?

I like snooker … so you know.

And was watching the final of the World Championship, last night.

I went to bed: when Mark Selby was ahead, 17-13, against Shaun Murphy.

With the thought then Selby would’ve won, by the time I got up.

Lo, and behold … ?

He had.

I love being able to do that …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May 2019

4th May, 2019.

Yes: it’s official.

I have a bag, courtesy of the Office of National Statistics.

I got picked for a survey they’ve been running.

Which was online, didn’t take long …

And earned me a free gift.

A bag.

I THINK, given my height, and the length of the handles?

It’s going to end up being dragged across the floor …

~≈§≈~

Now …

About the Election results?

I’ve just downloaded them on my phone.

To my phone, THEN uploaded the .pdf to my Google drive, then downloaded it to my desktop.

Where I could look at the results for my ward.

The Greens, the party I voted for?   Haven’t won.

But HAVE improved their results: 114 votes, compared to the last election’s 96.

The local Conservative councillor?   Has now been replaced by a Liberal Democrat.

That’s all well and good.

The number of spoilt papers?

Has gone up.

Well done, everyone’s who done that.

I’ve always felt that if you don’t see anyone you like on a ballot paper, spoiling it is your only option.   At least, until the UK’s voting law allows an Abstain/None of the Above option*.

What bothers me?

Is simply that I’ve had to download those results on my phone.

Brentwood government’s site won’t — in this one instance, and on a desktop  — do the same.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May, 2018.

4th May, 2018.

Yes: I’m officially wish a Happy Birthday, Mum!

Ahem!

If anyone else want’s to do the same, they’d be perfectly welcome to!

She’d appreciate it.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate, and on other fronts … ?

We had a local election, yesterday.   Brentwood — at least Brentwood West, the ward I live in — now has an extra Liberal Democrat.

Personally … ?

I went for Labour, myself.

Mostly?

Because the Greens weren’t standing in Brentwood West, this year.

Shame, that.

~≈§≈~

I’m also aware that in some boroughs?   There’s been a trial of voter ID: you have to take ID with you, to be able to vote.

According to Radio Four?   People have been turned away.

I hope this scheme does not go any further.

I personally, couldn’t afford to get a photographic drivers license, or passport: the standard pieces of ID that are being requested.

I suspect I’m not the only person in Brentwood who is in the same shoes.

Personally?

I think I, and others, would be be denied a vote, as a result.

~≈§≈~

And finally … !

Finally, and in other news … ?

Twitter have advised three hundred and thirty million users to change their passwords: myself included.

Apparently?

The bulk of those passwords had not been lack from the site’s storage servers.

But had been stored in plain text: unencrypted, and with not protection, in other words.

I’ve changed mine: you might want to do likewise …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-5-2017

Did I mention there’s local elections on in the UK?

Today … ?

There’s local elections on, today.

And … ?

Yes, I’m intent on voting: Green, if you’re asking.   I’m just a little too disillusioned with the Liberal Democrats, not yet convinced by Labour, and couldn’t vote Tory if you paid me.

Well …

You could pay me.   But it would have to be serious money, and that still wouldn’t guarantee it!

At ANY rate … ?

It’s Polling Day.

And I’m a little concerned.

You’re supposed to get a polling card: that tells you where your polling station is, and helps identify you.

It’s not necessarily need: but does come in handy as a reminder.

Mine hasn’t turned up.

Hopefully, I won’t need it, will be able to vote, and that there’s been a simple cock-up at the council offices.

But I’m also wondering if we STILL have an issue with mail theft …
