Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-11-2025 — Plymouth.

12th November, 2025: Plymouth.

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

I got my dates mixed up!

I had thought my gas safety check was due, yesterday.

It wasn’t until I opened my emails, yesterday, and got a reminder … that I realised the thing was supposed to be today.

Where do I put my face … ?

~≈🤦🏼‍♂️≈~

As it turns out … ?

Nowhere!

Robert Heath — my landlord’s boiler contractor — have just phoned.

Apparently, their tradesman is off, for some reason.

So they’ve rescheduled for two weeks time.

Ho … … … hum!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-1-2025 — Lima

18th January, 2025.

Yay!

It’s Saturday!

Which means, I and my nephew, Jude, managed to have dinner together, last night.

Jude also managed to get another video done: and posed for another Image Playground photo.

Quite why my nephew’s got blue hair … ?

I really don’t know!

~≈💇‍♂️≈~

One thing that did crop up, when Jude was here?

Was simply the fact people keep dying.

He was saddened to hear about the death of footballer, Denis Law.

Me … ?

Equally as saddened to hear about the deaths of director, David Lynch, and actor, Christopher Benjamin.

They’re going to be missed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-1-2025 — The City of Saint Mungo

13th January, 2025: Saint Mungo’s City.

Right … it’s officially Monday: and?

I’m off to Brentwood, for my weight management meeting.

Given I lost about four hundred grams, last week?   About 9/10th of a pound?

I’m hoping to have lost more.

It would be nice to have a win, in the new year.

~≈⚖️≈~

Talking of weight … ?

It seems that tonight’s episode of Panorama covers weight loss drugs available on the National Health Service.

Given a recent report that says supplying the drugs could well bankrupt the NHS?

I’d be interested in seeing that … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-10-2024 — World Cities Day

31st October, 2024: World Cities Day.

Right … I’m officially not going to mention a new Apple product release.

Nope: I’ve had two days worth of boring you to death with it.

So I’m not going to mention the seriously upgraded MacBook Pros, MacBook Pros that come with a serious price tag, and serious specs.

Like Thunderbolt 5 ports on practically everything.

And upgraded RAM and hard-drives and screens.

Nor am I going to mention the tweaks made to the MacBook Airs: which now come with increased RAM.

Nope, I’m not going to … … … …

Ooops!

~≈💻≈~

Ahem!

I have to say, though, those Airs are interesting to me: I’ve just enough cash left to buy one.

But I’m trying to keep hold of the money I’ve got.

I’m also put off by some of the design aspects.

I’m left handed: it’s part of what attracted me to the Mac desktops I’ve had.

The classic, one-button, Mac mice can be used left-handedly with a minimum of fiddling about in the settings.

You just put it on the other side of the keyboard.

So … ?

I like having the left hand side of my desk free, and clear, of obstructions.

However, the current MacBook line up has most of its ports on the left hand side of the machine.

If, like me, you have a lot of hubs and dongles that need connecting… ?

That doesn’t exactly leave you with space.

~≈💻≈~

Just as a last point … ?

I’ve now officially wiped an old external drive, one I was using as my Time Machine back-up.

As securely as possible: after all, someone could access my bank details from that drive.

Even though I’d done it in a way that was a compromise between security, and time taken, it was still an overnight job.

One that, thankfully, had finished by this morning.

I’m now setting up Time Machine with the new drive.

Hopefully?

That set up won’t take long.

Now … does anyone want a second hand, ten-terabyte external drive … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-10-2024 — Beijing

28th October, 2024: Beijing.

Right … it’s official.

It’s another Monday morning.

Which means, of course, that I’m off to my weight management group: and hoping I’ve managed to keep the loss of weight going.

I’d lost 1.2kg, last week: and want to keep that going!

~≈Ω≈~

Something they’ve just announced on the Today programme … ?

Is that Chancellor Rachel Reeves is to announce the scrapping of the capped bus fares in Wednesday’s budget.

I hope they don’t!

Those cheap fares are a life-saver for many of us.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2024 — Ankara

13th October, 2024: Ankara.

Right …

I’ve come into money.

Not much — if you’re Jeff Bezos or Time Cook — but enough to make a difference to me.

I’ve already picked up a few useful bits for around the house.

And have a new mattress coming, on Tuesday.

I’m also sizing up sofas.

The prices for some of those are eye watering!

But it’s something that’s much needed.

The biggest problem … ?

Getting rid of the old furniture: at a good price.

I’m going to have to shop around, there!

~≈🛋️≈~

Something I have managed to get — which I’m not planning to tell the DWP about — was a couple of reasonably priced, high capacity, external drives.

It’s a long held believe of mine: having lots of drive space is like having lots of shelf space.

There’s no such thing as having too much shelf space!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2024 — El Lay

4th September, 2024: El Lay.

It’s officially Wednesday … which frankly …

Means I’ve got the day free, having finished rendering a lot of videos!

I might just have to watch some TV in between everything else!

~≈¥≈~

As I’ve started writing this … ?

I’ve got the Today programme, Radio Four’s early morning current affairs programme, on in the background.

Do you remember hearing the news about the Grenfell Tower fire, back in 2017?

I certainly do: seeing the images of a burning tower block was one of the most shocking things I think I’d ever seen in my life.

Even now, it’s distressing to see.

What was shocking for me … ?

Was the fact I had a (thankfully) distant connection to it.

I worked for Pinnacle, at the time: the company handled out of hours emergency repair calls for various social landlords, including Kensington and Chelsea Council, the owners of Grenfell Tower*.

I knew the young woman who was on duty, that night: who handled the horde of emergency housing requests that started coming in.

Quite how Hayley coped, I don’t know.

But she ended up with Pinnacle’s equivalent of being mentioned in dispatches.

I can only hope that got her a pay rise, if nothing else.

At any rate, it was a shocking thing to see: this sort of thing is not supposed to happen in a civilised country.

If at all!

The reasons I mention all this … ?

Is relatively simple.

The Today programme tells us the inquiry is due to issue its report, today: at 11.00.

I can only hope that — given the deaths, injuries and trauma the fire caused — lessons can be learned, and future fires prevented.

We could do without another Grenfell.

Friday, 30 August 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-8-2024 — Melbourne

30th August, 2024: Melbourne.

Right … Fridays … !

It’s a day for fun, laughter, stuff, and — possibly — frolics.

Or, if you’re me, taking another shot of Mounjaro.

Quite why the stuff leaves me with the jitters?

I really don’t know!

~≈💉≈~

JUST in case you wondered … ?

Yes: my nephew, Jude, was over, last night!

As well as managing another video … ?

We managed to have an exciting adventure in Sainbury’s.

Buying kale for Mikey the Rabbit.

It’s a bit of a social whirl … !
