2nd September, 2025: VJ Day.

Right … it’s officially Tuesday.

And … ?

Frankly, I’m going to be having a quiet day.

After all, it’s not until tomorrow I have a meeting with my Job Centre case worker, and Thursday until I have my quarterly blood tests.

I think putting my feet up could be good.

As I write … ?

The radio is off.

Just so I’m not distracted.

At the time I did so, Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, was being interviewed on the Today programme: about the many immigrants trying to get to the UK, illegally, over the English Channel.

As I recall, in the last election, one member of Reform called for illegal migrants to be shot, when they landed.

Which, unfortunately, is an idea I find appealing: and may be a deterrent.

I find it appealing: as, I suspect, will many others.

However, I also think it’s an idea that’s very unethical.

I’m also reminded of a scene in a Dr Who story called Genesis of the Daleks.

One where the Doctor asks Davros, the creator of the Daleks, if he, Davors, could launch a plague and kill all life.

The key question I’ve always remembered from the scene?

But would you do it?

It’s one I feel applies to the “Shoot a Migrant” question.

Could you — or me, or them — put a bullet in a gun, point it at a migrant coming off a small boat, and pull the trigger?

Could you?

Cold-bloodedly?

I couldn’t.

But I suspect some could.

That’s not a reassuring idea …

I’m up early.

Yes: I’m off to me weight management class, today.

Hopefully, I’ll’ve lost weight.

I mentioned, a few days ago, that a certain relative fancied a new phone for Christmas/birthday.

A rather expensive one!

Hopefully?

The family will be able to sort out something!

Even if it’s just a Barbie phone … !

I’ve got the Flying Pickets version of “Only You” on, at the moment.

The irony of the thing isn’t lost on me.

It was — at one point — Margaret Thatcher’s favourite song.

By contrast, the band … ?

Raised a lot of cash, playing left wing benefit gigs.

I don’t think anyone mentioned it to Maggie!

Yep: that’s another possible scammer blocked on Instagram.

I’m on Instagram, if you didn’t know.

And?   JUST been messaged, over night.

By someone calling themselves Hele.n141, who had lots of glamour shots of themselves in their profile … and who insisted their name was ‘Hellen.’

I’ve blocked them.

Repeatedly — and robotically — asking me “Where is your location,” is not the best way to convince me you’re real.

At any rate … ?

It’s Friday: the day after I had a Restart meeting by phone.

And managed to arrange the next one: so it doesn’t mean travelling to Chelmsford on a strike day!

I’m sympathetic to strikers: they have a good reason to be striking.

But?

Had I been working, those strikes would’ve left me very angry.

As it is, I’m just annoyed: but can at least can plan ahead.

I’ve another meeting, today: with my Job Centre case worker.

Hopefully

It will go well … and mean meeting the chap!

He’s been my case worker for the past month and a half, and I’ve never actually met him!

I’m quite possibly going to go for a nice healthy walk … and do some nice healthy exercises.

The latter?   Are doing my knee some good, I think.

But frankly?

I’m not EXACTLY finding them a bundle of laughs!

I make chicken stew, every so often.

I’ve a couple of pots* left: which I’ll alternate with other meals, over the next few days.

I’m thinking, though, that next batch … ?

Won’t have parsnips in it.

I’m getting a bit cheesed off with parsnips.

It’s official: I have another meeting, today.

With my temporary case worker* at the Job Centre: as my regular case worker is on holiday.

I messaged them, yesterday, to find out more about a Department of Work and Pensions scheme called the Flexible Support Fund.

That — in theory — I could use to by a laptop.

I can also see if putting in some sort of complaint about the Shaw Trust would be appropriate.

Or doable … 

We’ll just have to see.

We had a drug raid in my street: a couple of months ago, now.

One that made national headlines.

The reason I mention it … ?

Is that we had three police cars parked on our street, yesterday: and a forensics van.

What the hell they were for … ?

Has anyone bee watching Game of Thrones, recently?

I have to admit, I have.

I’ve been throughly enjoying it, too.

Granted the sex, violence, swearing, more sex, plotting, magic, exposition, even more sex, giant walls, all of it modelled on various bits of English history — with added sex and dragons — isn’t going to be for everyone.

But it?   And season seven?

Have been riveting to watch.

I’ve got to give the show’s makers credit: they’ve made fantasy a TV phenomena.

And season eight, the last?   Out next year?

Could well go out with a bang …

Oh, now that’s ridiculous.

I work for a living.

Or, at least, I try to.

And … ?

Will, I’ve seen my hours for next week.

‘Bloody Ridiculous,’ is putting it mildly.

I’ve got eleven hours.

I’m contracted for sixteen.

And been rota’ed for between 20 and 24.

Understandably?

I’m not a happy bunny: I’m an unhappy bunny intent on having a word with his boss.

And I’m an unhappy bunny thinking about the term ‘Constructive Dismissal.’
