Nosferatu (2024) — A Review

20th March, 2025: Nosferatu (2024).

It has to be said: I’m in a mood.

For various reasons.

But … ?

With little to do, I’m in a mood to do something I haven’t done for a while.

One … ?

Play with software.

I’ve got hold of a copy of DaVinci Resolve, just recently: and wanted to play with it.

So … ?   Filming a review seems a good idea.

Second?

Watching a movie seemed good, too: even if I get this finished by Saturday, 22nd March.

I can only hope the Robert Eggers, 2024, version of Nosferatu is good to watch.

I wasn’t totally convinced by the original.

I have to admit to feeling slightly rushed, this morning.

Frankly?

Apple asked for me bank card details: despite having not had to, for some years.

Yes, before you ask: it’s definitely a genuine request, I checked the email.

 But quite what happened, there?

I don’t know.

There’s a woman the BBC are calling Beth: who was involved with a man the Beeb are referring to as ‘Agent X*’.

Who, as it turned out, was both a paid informant for MI5 … and who abused his by-now ex-partner, Beth.

The twists … ?

That Agent X was a Neo-nazi.

And MI5 lied in court about what they knew about him, at least three times.

Going by this piece?

Beth’s sueing MI5, I should add: and wants an apology.

Right now?

Given that my bedtime read is Thunderball?

I can only conclude the espionage business, the real espionage business, is not especially pleasant …

I’ve not — officially — made up my mind about what I’m going to watch.

I have — as I do, every day — started dinner.

And yes: it’s Friday, so it’s fish and chips.

Frankly, I’ll be eating that whilst watching an old friend’s Judge Dredd video.

Then … ?

Watching a movie.

Hopefully?

It’ll be a little lighter than the last long-form drama I saw.

I’ve just double checked the pile of letters I’ve got.

And realised one of them?

Informing me I was supposed to be getting a visit from a gas safety chap: to check that my boiler was functioning safely.

Between one and five.

Guess what?

I had a no show.

Phoning them in the morning seems to be the thing, I think.

With little to do, except take some books up to the various charity shops in Brentwood High Street*.

It’s a Friday night.

You’ve possibly noticed that, haven’t you … ?

It’s a Friday night … where I’m indoors … and thinking there’s something I could be watching on TV.

There’s plenty, certainly.

But nothing that caught my eye.

However?

Something did catch my eye.

Yes: the Moffat and Gatiss cut of Dracula.

I fancied something … grim …

The Daily Teaser — 26-5-2013: Dracula

You know, I thought that might happen.

Seeming, after the Woolwich Attacks on Wednesday, the Daily Mail — and a few others, I’d imagine — are calling for Google and other search engines to block various extremist sites.

I think they’re getting the wrong end of the stick.

At least, in regards to how easy that is.   Correct me if I’ve got it wrong, but I believe such blocks are usually done at the ISP level.

And even then, the example of torrent sites like Kick Ass Torrents and Pirate Bay — which have all used proxies since being blocked in the UK — tells us one thing.

Given enough time, such blocks are circumventable.   Extremist sites are not going away.

The only way to stop them … ?   Is to dismantle the internet.   I can see that going down like a lead balloon.

Let’s get moving on …

†        I always point people at Genesis Of The Daleks, if folk ask me for the name of a classic Dr Who story to watch.   Torchwood: Children of Earth is, I believe, the Torchwood equivalent.
