Right … it’s a quiet Sunday morning … 

And … ?

I’m expecting it to stay quiet.

I’ve been doing a little research, after finding out that the newly updated versions of Pages*, Keynote and Number were available.

Complete with premium options connected to Apple’s Creator Studio suite.

It turns out that I don’t need a subscription for the iWork suite.

I just need the subscription for the premium content, premium content that includes extra templates and AI features.

It’s a shame in one sense: those templates look good, and would add variety to some of my presentations.

And using this updated version of Pages seems to be causing less overheating, when used with multiple Safari tabs.

The subscription would included access to Final Cut Pro.

The software’s a step up from iMovie, and better optimised for the Mac platform than the free version of DaVinci Resolve†, which I also use.

I feel a little mixed about that.

But can at least say I’m not spending more money …

It’s Saturday morning.

And … frankly, I’m thinking it’s going to be a quiet day.

Well … bar a little shopping!

As was the horse … 

They, like someone of the other pictures I’ve made, will get featured in someone of the Teaser art.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-2-2024 — Recognition

1st February, 2024: Recognition.

Yes: it’s Thursday.

And, frankly?

I’ve got to make at least one phone-call.

To re-arrange a hygienist appointment that scheduled for Monday … at the same time as my weight management class!

You know … I never realise these things conflict until the last minute!

I’m in the UK: as you’ve possibly guessed.

And … ?

We’re due a Budget — an announcement of the Government’s financial plans — in March.

With an election due at some point, this year?

There’s speculation that tax cuts will feature in it: which isn’t that surprising.

My personal concern isn’t those cuts.

It’s the Cost of Living payments that many in my shoes receive.

The last one is due between 6th and 22nd February.

The sooner the better.

But … ?

I’m assuming that — all else being equal — that the February payment will be the last.

But with a budget due?

I hope that the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, keeps the payment active: at least for another year.

But, being realistic?

Think those of us who need it, won’t see another penny.

Well, my nephew, Jude, was over: and, yes, he’s made another video about Prime.

1st February, 2022.

Right … I’m officially feeling slightly rushed.

I need to get to town: to put in a repeat prescription, and get some paperwork started.

But need to get back home: in time for a lunchtime phone meeting with the Job Centre.

Getting distracted might not be a good idea.

Just as a quick thought … ?

You’ll be aware that — up until yesterday — the BBC had four terrestrial TV channels in the UK: BBCs One, Two and BBC News.

Having closed down BBC Three — its youth channel, and former home of Torchwood — in 2016.

I personally felt that contributed to the cancelling of Dr Who spinoff, Class.   Instead of a nine o’clock slot on a cancelled channel, at the same time as its digital release, the series ended up in a graveyard slot on BBC 2, sometime after its digital release.

That contributed to its demise, which is a shame.   It, like The Fades, had a lot of promise.

At any rate … ?   The BBC’s made a potential good decision: to revive BBC 3 as a terrestrial channel.

It’s gone live: today.

It just seems odd that one of the news series is a show about ‘high octane tractor racing.’

My nephew, Jude, uploaded another gaming video, last night: he and his friend, Peter, played a game of FIFA ’22, and did rather well.

Right the … 

We’re out of it.

The UK has left the EU, and entered the implementation period that gives us time to negotiate a trade deal.

Personally?

I think any deal we make, won’t be as good as the one we had, whiles a member.

Plus?

Those in receipt of EU grants are going to lose out.

We lose membership of the European Space Agency, and other scientific bodies.

And … those of us living in Europe will have a devil of a time of it … 

We have seriously screwed up.

I hate snow … !

Right at the moment, I’m due another hygienist’s appointment: at three.

And, given the snow?

I’m not heading out of the flat until I need it.

I know ‘freeze’ is used as a alternative to ‘anaesthetic’ … but I’d rather not turn up frozen … !

Remember, yesterday, that I told you about the phone call I’d had: from BT?

Offering an interview, if I could do the online assessment they were asking me to do?

Well … 

I had to ask myself if that was a scam.   I doubt it, somehow: the chap knew too many details about the job, and area.

To be honest, though … ?   And not wanting to get in trouble with the people who pay my benefits?

I sent a brief email to BT to ask about it.

What’ll happen as a result?

I don’t know …

And, frankly?

I’m thankful I’ve managed to get some tea down my neck.

You wouldn’t think a pint’s worth of hot caffeine would help, would you?

But there you go …

Right at the moment, though?

Right at the moment, I’ve got the Today on: interviewing a senior judge about the collapse of several recent rape trials, and a human trafficking case.

The cases hinge on whether police in each case correctly disclosed evidence to defence lawyers.   Evidence showing that the prosecution cases were — at the very least — extremely unsafe: if not outright non-existent.

Speaking personally?

I … 

Well, I’m not sure what’s going on.

But personally feel it’s important to have this cleared up.

Rape cases are some of the most difficult to prosecute.

Anything that puts victims off — which I feel this may — makes that harder to do.

There’s something else, as well.

I’ve met a few people who’ve done time, over the years.

Quite a few?

Claimed to be victims of a police or judicial stitch up: been manipulated into serving a sentence after being falsely accused of something they didn’t do.

Frankly?

The needs of the victims have to be served.

And what is — effectively — false accusations need to be stopped.

Just not only has to be done, and SEEN to be done.

For all sides.

Well, that’s official, then … 

I’ve started an argument!

I’m in a sci-fi fan group on Facebook: and have suggested a woman play the role of Dr Who.

You’d’ve thought I’d’ve suggested raping babies, the way some have reacted!

I know — know — that people get very passionate about their favourite show.

I do, too.

But … ?

Go and read this piece.

Basically, Billie Piper and David Tennant have both come out in favour.

Nice to know they agree with me …

The Daily Teaser — 1-2-2016

You know, I don’t know if it’s a sign of the times … 

But Sir Terry Wogan’s died: as has actor, Frank Finley.

I’ve got to admit, that’s sad to hear: both are losses.

I don’t know that I could tell you if I’d seen Frank Finley in much — beyond an episode or two of Merlin, a few years ago — but know he was very well thought of.

As for Sir Terry … ?   I was never a listener, it has to be said.   But, having watched the Eurovision Song Contest, a few times?

I know the man’s wit left one hell of a mark.

They will both be sorely missed.

One other quick thing … ?

I’m not sure if it’s been fixed, as yet … but am very aware the Lincolnshire County Council recently got hit by ransomware.

My personal thinking … ?   Was that it wouldn’t happen if the council had been using Macs, or Linux based systems.   From the little I know, and have experienced, there’s less such malicious software aimed at the two operating systems: a lot less than at Windows.

But … ?   I’m also aware some of the BBC reports said that the attack started after the Council received what it described as a ‘rogue email.’

From the little I’ve read … ?   I’m guessing a convincing-looking phising email has got through Lincolnshire County Council’s spam filters: or that a staff member was looking in their spam folder for an email that may have been misdirected.

Either way, it’s been opened … someone’s clicked on an innocent looking link … and …
