Right … it’s officially official: it’s Monday.

Which you’d noticed.

So … ?

It means that, once again, I’m off to the weekly weigh-in.

And hoping like hell that — like last week — I’ve lost some weight.

I’m hoping for the best: but expecting the worst, given the crisps I’ve eaten!

Yesterday, I told you about the issues I’ve had with Amazon deliveries.

I finally got the non-cola items, yesterday.

Although, it has to be said, I’d rather have had all four items: the vitamins, air duster and Marmite, and the colas.

But at least the undamaged goods are now here.

And the refund for the box of colas is on route.

That said … ?

I still have a few complaints.

The main one?

Is that Amazon told me I’d be getting a refund on the diet cokes, rather than the goods, themselves.

But left the box in the list of stuff I was expecting, in the delivery notifications.

I’ll be honest: they could have tidied that up.

The other complaint?

Given the three items that were delivered, were in a small box, why did they not leave them here, Saturday?

There’s an old saying that God works in mysterious ways.

So, it seems, does Amazon … !

At least God’s a good communicator.

Right … it’s official: my review of the latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been delayed.

As I had my nephew, Jude, around, yesterday.

On the upside?

He’s released his latest video … !

I’ve got a phone being delivered, tomorrow: on the same day as my Weight Management group.

Normally?

I’d rearrange the delivery date after I’d spoken to the delivery firm — DHL, in this case, who are usually very good about these things — about the time of delivery, OR arranged for a neighbour to take things in.

Except … ?

The neighbours who usually do this for me are on holiday: and others may or may not be able to help.

I can’t talk to someone in person, at either O2 or the couriers, until tomorrow: the day of delivery.

Emails — and phone calls! — don’t get answered until then, either!

Frustrating … ?

Oh, yes!

I’m officially Jude sitting, this morning: he’s due at 9.30.

So I’m up early to get things done.

I suspect … that I’m going to be yawning, a lot.

You know, there’s an on-going Cost-of-Living Crisis.

You know it, I know it, and Captain Archer’s beagle knows it.

And frankly?   Radio 4’s Today program’s not shut up about it!

They have had at least one passionate speaker on.   Making the very good point that leadership contender, Liz Truss, is planning on tax cuts if she wins: which would be useless to pensioners and Universal Credit claimants, who don’t pay tax.

The one earlier piece that caught my eye?

Was someone from Ofgem, the energy regulator: who suggested a social tariff — a cheaper price place for those of us on low incomes — would be a bloody useful idea.

My words, there … but you get the point.

Personally, I like the idea.

I hope the regulator introduces and enforces one.   Or that Parliament introduces a law to make it compulsory.

Because I don’t see the energy industry introducing it: not as things stand.

I’ve got to admit … I’vm desperately trying to work out how to phrase this … 

Perhaps diving straight in and telling you would be the thing.

At the suggestion of my work coach, I’ve filed what’s technically called a Statements Of Fitness For Work: also known a Fit note, or Sick note.

It basically means I’m off ill for a month.

I’m not sure I like the idea: I don’t like the thought of being ill!

With the kind of work history I’ve had, it’s all too easily associated with not getting paid … !

It’s not something I didn’t expect: it’s just more detailed.

Frankly, I’m blaming the fact I’ve got a phone meeting, this morning: with a the chap from the Health and Work programme I’m on.

Hmmm …

I can’t see a connection between a phone appointment and the Vengaboys, either!

Yes: it’s Saturday.

It’s a Saturday I’m going to have to be doing … stuff … !

To be honest, I’ve just enough cash to get some blank CDs.

I’ve still got a few playlists on my old MacPro that need to be transferred over for it, to my iMac.

The playlists in question are from a large, multi-disk, compilation: equivalent to some forty-four individual CDs.

Unfortunately?   The version of iTunes on the machine is an older one, that organised this set in an odd way: as individual songs, rather than as a large set of albums.

Which means burning the playlists off as CDs, then importing them into the new machine, is the easiest way to transfer them.

I’m just glad Gracenote, the online database Apple uses to identify CDs, still seems to work … !

The only things I am worried about … ?

Is that we’re not suffering a power cut.

And the wind: it’s howling out there … !

You know, I’m not an expert: but I’m someone who follows the news.

I’m also someone who follows the Technology news: as far far as possible.

I’m ALSO a man aware of the open source movement.   A movement that makes software you and I can freely examine and change: and, in the case of the better known examples, makes them available to the home user, at no commercial charge.

The better known examples?   Include browser like Firefox, media player, vlc, and productivity suites like OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

I’m ALSO aware there’s open source operating systems: usually based on the Linux kernel.   I’ve used Ubuntu occasionally, but am aware there’s others around.

So, when I saw this piece on the BBC’s news site, yesterday, about an London Assembly member’s efforts to get the Metropolitan Police to upgrade their desktops … from Windows XP?

Basically?   I wrote to the Assembly member concerned, Andrew Boff, to see if he would suggest a Linux-based system to the Met, instead of — or in conjunction with — versions of Windows 10.

Lord knows what will happen, there.   But hopefully?

I’ll get as reply, at least.
