And … ?

It’s officially shopping day: and bill paying day.

Which is going to be fun.

It looks like it’s going to be one of the hottest days of the year to date.

Hydration will be key.

And, for those of us marking World Goth Day?

It might be a sensible idea to not wear black.

It’s not going to be the weather for it …

Oh … shopping!

I bought a new games controller, a few weeks ago: directly from Apple’s site.

One that didn’t come with a charging cable.

I wasn’t too worried: as I was told the thing could be charged by hooking it up to my Mac.

Turns out that wasn’t quite the case.

It was running low on charge, a few days ago, so I hooked the controller to my Mac … and left it over night.

It didn’t charge the thing: but did pair it with the Mac.

In much the same way we pair a bluetooth mouse or keyboard!

Yes: you’re right.

I’m going to buy a charging station, today …

Right … it’s now officially Thursday: and I have to head into town.

Medication — Metformin, in this case — has turned up.

Which means … ?

Heading into town to pick the stuff up.

Ho … … hum!

There’s a woman in Suffolk called Jo Willis: who’s found a spherical chicken egg!

Apparently, finding these has chances of a billion-to-one.

Which gives me a perfect excuse to paraphrase Terry Pratchett: billion-to-one chances come up nine times out of ten.

In even more news … ?

It seems the government are planning to release prisoners earlier than usual: in a bid to free up prison places.

Including release those convicted of domestic violence … and sex offenders.

With a twist: that the sex offenders should receive treatment, treatment known as ‘chemical castration’, in order to qualify.for early release.

I’m not sure that’s a wise idea.

We give sex offenders long sentences partly as punishment: but also for public safety reasons.

I can also remember reading a few biographies of Alan Turing: who received similar treatment after convictions for his homosexuality.

And came away with the impression chemical castration didn’t work.

I can only repeat the question I’ve already asked.

Is this wise?

Beyond the fact it’s:

• The day I’m expecting my nephew to visit.
• The day before payday.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-5-2022 — Sri Lanka

Yes: it’s official.

I’ve had a text message from my pharmacist: another batch of medications are in.

Me being me, of course?   I know I’ve got a couple of days slack, before I need to get the stuff.

So … ?

I might just get it while the sun shines … or leave it until tomorrow, when I’m going to be out, anyway … 

We’ll see.

I wrote, yesterday, about how Chancellor Rishi Sunak — the UK’s current Finance minister — is both one of the county’s richest men: and one of a body of Tory MPs who don’t seem to want to help those who seriously need it.

It seems we can be thankful for the International Monetary Fund, the international body that monitors and regulates the world economy.

Or, at least, be thankful for Kristalina Georgieva: the head of the IMF.

In a statement, she’s said, quite simple, that governments should subsidise food and energy.

Personally?

I can only hope Mr Sunak — and his boss, Boris Johnson — are paying attention.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-5-2021: Sir Arthur

22nd May, 2021.

Right … I’ve news … mixed, but mostly positive news.

I had a colonoscopy, yesterday, at Basildon Hospital.

Which was fun.

The good news?   Is that I have nothing more serious than piles and a couple of polyps* on my colon.

Which, I’m told, are something along the lines of warts: and something that would normally be removed, as they can turn cancerous.

Thankfully, the ones I have, haven’t.

Normally … ?

Mine would’ve been removed on the day.

But weren’t.

As the laxatives — gosh, they were fun! — I’d had on Thursday didn’t … um … clear everything … !

I’m going to have to repeat the process.

Just as an extra thought about the colonoscopy?

I have to admit to being nervous about it, yesterday.

I was, after all, getting a camera put somewhere where cameras don’t usually go.

But thankfully?   I was given a sedative: “to help me relax.”

I couldn’t help but notice was Fentanyl: the drug that’s contributing much to the US opioid crisis.

I’ll happily admit, I’m trying not to worry about that.

But am definitely noticing the aftereffects of the stuff.

No wonder they tell you not to drive: they’re mild, as far as I can see.

But they’re not necessarily nice …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-5-2020: The War of The Roses …

It’s Friday: and frankly, it’s pay day.

Or, at least, the the day when my benefits go into my bank.

That’s all good: it means I can go shopping, and pay my bills.

I’ve actually got enough left over, this month, to buy a couple of bits on Amazon.

Including a potato masher.

OK, yes, I know: I can use a fork.

But some how, I’d like like to ba able to make lumpless mashed potato …

I’m occasionally known to watch TV.

Occasionally!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been watching Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and thoroughly enjoying it.

So, as I’m in the UK … ?   I know the BBC turned BBC3 into an online only channel, a few years ago: to a storm of protest.

I’m one of the people who thought it was unwise.

It was the original home of Dr Who spinoff, Torchwood.   I, like others, also felt that Class, the Dr Who spinoff initially broadcast on the online only version of BBC3, would have lasted a lot longer: had it had a broadcast channel to call home.

So … ?

This piece of news — informing us the BBC’s considering reviving the broadcast channel — is both welcome … 

And bittersweet.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — Convicted

Phone-calls …

Phone-calls, phone-calls, phone-calls … 

Phone-calls!

I have to admit, I missed an appointment with my work coach, last week: missing an alarm, would you believe!

In my defence?

The minute I realised I’d missed it, I phoned the relevant body, and immediately rearranged it for as early as possible.

I have still, unfortunately, got myself sanctioned: and have an upcoming financial penalty.

Not something I want, obviously.

Hence my phone calls, later, today.

I’m going to ask for what’s called a Mandatory Reconsideration: an appeal, in other words.

After all, it’s the only one I’ve missed in the past few years: which might help.

It’s going to cause financial hardship: which I don’t think will make a good impression.

The fact I managed to re-arrange the meeting, as soon as possible?   May be one point that goes in my favour.

You’ve worked out I’m a fan of some TV shows.

I’ve been glued to El Ministerio del Tiempo for a while: indeed, was watching an episode, last night.

It looks like Lola’s back!

There’s been an announcement about the upcoming twelfth series.

It looks like the Judoon are back … … … … …
