Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March 2025.

18th March, 2025.

Right, then …

It’s official!

I’ve got an earworm, this morning: the Kalush Orchestra’s hit, “Stefania”.

Why?

Why “Stefania”?

I don’t know.

But I’m not going to be wearing a pink hat, as a result.

It’s got to be said: I like a computer or two.

And, frankly?

Have had a spare, cheap, laptop I can use: lurking around the flat.

Although that seems to have gone for a Burton.

Why?

Well, I don’t know that, either!

But?

Given I have an unsold monitor going spare?

An extra one could be handy.

I would love to own a Raspberry Pi 500

I’d love to own one.

If for no other reason than to say I’ve got a computer built into a keyboard: and one of Britain’s best selling.

You have to wave the flag, somehow!

Just as a last thought … ?

I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday.

My weight’s not changed.

Hopefully, I’ll’ve lost something, by next week.

Either way … ?

The meeting had changed room for the day: and is back to normal, next week.

The reason it changed?

Was that there was a charity slipper swap in the usual room.

You took an old pair in: and got a free, new, pair in return.

I’m wearing that new pair.

OK: they’re not perfect.

But I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March 2024.

18th March, 2024.

Yes, it’s official Monday: and … ?

I’m officially up early … again.

Yes: today’s weight management day … and — this afternoon! — a hygienist appointment!

Which means going up Warley Hill, twice!

I hate going up Warley Hill!

~≈Ï≈~

Just as a thought … ?

Did you know singer, Steve Harley, died*, yesterday?

OK, I wasn’t a fan … but the man’s going to be missed!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March 2023.

18th March 2023.

Right … it’s officially Saturday, officially raining …

And I’m feeling sleepy.

To help me deal with the ongoing pain in my knee?

My GP’s prescribed me some pain-killers: some co-codemol 15/500 tablets.

The one dose I had, last night?

Helped …

But lord, it makes you sleepy!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March, 2022

18th March, 2022.

Right …

You’re possibly aware I’ve put in for extra financial help.

And finally had a decision, on Wednesday.

I had my claim, rejected.

I’ve finally managed to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration, yesterday: starting the early stages of an appeal.

I should hear about that by 18:00, tonight.

Hopefully?

The letter I’ve done, that highlights extra information, will be useful.

~≈📩≈~

Oh, JUST so you know … ?

My nephew, Jude, was over yesterday.

Yes: you’re right.

He has done another video.

He was rather impressed with that vague Max Headroom effect: around the eighteen second mark.

I can’t think who suggested that to him!

~≈🕹≈~

Just as a final thought … ?

I’ve got the Today programme on in the background.

Happily telling us President Biden will be talking to President Xi of China, later.

The President will be trying to persuade the other President not to supply financial or military aid to Russia.

I have to admit, I’ve got a line from Orwell floating through my head.
“Oceania was at war with Eastasia: Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”
1984, George Orwell.
Saying that … ?   Another quote from the novel — from the in-universe book that Winston reads — seems relevant.
“The primary aim of modern warfare … is to use up the products of the machine without raising the general standard of living.”
1984, George Orwell.
Given the state of the economy?

That wasn’t just relevant: but very relevant!

The Dig — A Review.

17th March, 2021.

Right …

That video intro has gone up, today: telling you, me, and one thousand. one hundred and twenty seven people on YouTube — my followers, in other words — that tonight, I’m going to watch a movie.

And hadn’t made my mind up, about which one.

Léon: The Professional was on offer from Apple.

They’ve got 2001: A Space Odyssey* on offer as well, which I didn’t notice.

I may have to sit down with it, again …

I’d also have a copy of Once Were Warriors: the film stars Temuera Morrison as one of two main characters.   I’d fancied seeing it … as I’d seen Temuera crop up in a recent episode of The Mandalorian.

Eventually, though … ?

Well, you’ve possibly guessed what I watched, in the end.

I’ll have more about The Dig, tomorrow …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-3-2021: Blue Hawaii

18th March, 2021.

It’s officially Thursday, and … ?

It’s officially quiet.

I am definitely looking forward to my shielding stopping on the 31st!

And the easing of lockdown.

It would be nice to ask friends over!

~≈¥≈~

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I caught a movie, last nice: The Dig, with Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes.

I’ll have my review up, tonight: but I think we can say it’s a good film.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-3-2020: Spacewalker

18th March, 2020.

It’s something I think I can say with a certain amount of certainty.

I feel ill.

Right at the moment?   My guts are killing me.

I can use my usual solution: tons of vitamin D supplements.

But stomach cramps, and the shakes, are not something I want to deal with.

~≈†≈~

There’s something else, as well.

I joined a weight management programme, back in January.

One that should end in early April.

Should.

Except that it’s been cancelled: Covid19 strikes again.

I know why it’s needed, I know it was one hell of a walk: especially given my leg’s playing up.

It’s selfish, I know,

But, knowing I need the help … ?

Leaves me very angry at it’s cancelling!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March, 2019

18th March, 2019.

You know, it’s got to be said, I think — think — we can safely my nephew, Jude … ?

Has inherited the family sense of humour.

Which is all good, I think.

There’s possibly a lot more I could say, there.

But … ?

Well …

He does come up with the occasional good point …

But occasionally doesn’t.

Thank heavens for that.

~≈§≈~

Oh, just as a sad bit of news?

It seems guitarist, Dick Dale, has died.

I have to admit, I didn’t know much about him: beyond the fact he did the original version of Misirlou, that was later used in Pulp Fiction.

Oh, and practically invented a genre of guitar music.

But …

Well …

You have to do something, if a fellow lefty goes …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th March, 2018.

19th March, 2018.

Yes, I’m right, aren’t I … ?

‘Lesser Beast from the East’ sounds just a little bit pretentious, doesn’t it … ?

At any rate, I THINK we can say that things seem to be calming — slowly — down.   Or, at least, warming up.

Not that you’d think so, looking out of my window: it’s still a bit … you know … icy …

~≈§≈~

Can I make a confession?

Today, I’ve used a quote — and a song — from the late comedy magician, Tommy Cooper.

The man, in life, was a huge fan favourite: and, in death, something of a legend.

Actually those of us who remember his death?   Will remember his death was eye-opening, as well.

He died, on stage, of a heart attack, in front of a large theatre audience … and millions ALSO watching the live TV broadcast.

I missed it.

Until doing the basic bits of research needed for today’s Teaser.

The clip of his death?

Is on YouTube.

I don’t don’t know whether to call that sick, bad taste or unpleasant: it’s certainly unpleasant to watch.

This much I DO know.

We — understandably — encourage the likes of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to not post videos showing ISIS beheadings on their platforms: and encourage them to take these down.

The fact Tommy Cooper’s death is still on YouTube as we speak?

Seems sick, bad taste, unpleasant …

And deeply unwelcome.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March, 2018

18th March, 2018.

I think we can definitely say I’ve got the day off, today: and tomorrow.

And, while I’d get serious extra pay for doing extra hours — double time, plus work’s recently invented Snow Bonus* — I really don’t like the look of that trip.

Plus?

I’ve got stuff I need to do, here at home.

As I told my boss, yesterday?

“No-one else is going to wash my pants …”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-3-2017

Good morning, everyone …

Lordy, but that looks cheerful!

Especially when you consider I’m doing a ten hour shift, today.

That’s actually not — at the moment —too bad a prospect.

What gets me — as always — is the transport.

As a result of the various boys of Crossrail work?

On Saturday, my commute to work starts with a rail replacement bus from Brentwood to Shenfield, moves to another bus Shenfield to Ingatestone, then and only then, to a train from Ingatestone to Chelmsford.

Which then plays out in reverse, on the way back.

It’s a bit of a pain in the bum, to be frank.

The only entertaining thing about the trip, today?

Is the fact the earworm of the day is the incredible entertaining Last Train to Transcentral*.

What were the KLF on?
