Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th March 2025.

18th March, 2025.

Right, then …

It’s official!

I’ve got an earworm, this morning: the Kalush Orchestra’s hit, “Stefania”.

Why?

Why “Stefania”?

I don’t know.

But I’m not going to be wearing a pink hat, as a result.

It’s got to be said: I like a computer or two.

And, frankly?

Have had a spare, cheap, laptop I can use: lurking around the flat.

Although that seems to have gone for a Burton.

Why?

Well, I don’t know that, either!

But?

Given I have an unsold monitor going spare?

An extra one could be handy.

I would love to own a Raspberry Pi 500

I’d love to own one.

If for no other reason than to say I’ve got a computer built into a keyboard: and one of Britain’s best selling.

You have to wave the flag, somehow!

Just as a last thought … ?

I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday.

My weight’s not changed.

Hopefully, I’ll’ve lost something, by next week.

Either way … ?

The meeting had changed room for the day: and is back to normal, next week.

The reason it changed?

Was that there was a charity slipper swap in the usual room.

You took an old pair in: and got a free, new, pair in return.

I’m wearing that new pair.

OK: they’re not perfect.

But I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Irene scoring five out of five, Debbi on four and a half, and Mum on four.

The day also saw Olga§ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th March, 1970, saw the birth of Dana Elaine Owens.   She’s better known as whom: Missy Eliot, Queen Latifah or Beyoncé?

Q2)        18th March, 1979, saw three killed in an explosion in Golborne.   In Golborne’s what: Pizza Hut, colliery or power station?

Q3)        William Henry Fry’s Leonora was first performed on 18th March, 1848.   It’s the first known what, composed by an American: light opera, grand opera or Punch and Judy show?

Q4)        Phoebe was discovered on 18th March, 1899.   Phoebe is a moon of which planet?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The SS Torrey Canyon ran aground on 18th March, 1967.   What was its cargo: oil, sugar or wheat?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th March is Saint Patrick’s Day.   It’s a public holiday in which of the UK’s home nations?
A1)        Northern Ireland.

Q2)        That part of the UK is on the island of where?
A2)        The island of Ireland.

Q3)        Saint Patrick’s Day has been officially marked as a public holiday in what’s now the Republic of Ireland, since when: 1901, 1903 or 1904?
A3)        1903.

Q4)        Saint Patrick’s Chapel is on the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey.   Glastonbury Abbey is in which English county: Somerset, Wiltshire or Gloucestershire?
A4)        Somerset.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Colcannon is a traditional Irish dish.   Made out of mashed potato and what?
A5)        Cabbage.
Here’s a thought …
“Don’t worry so much where you live but how you live.   Make the family of man your family as well.”
Edgar Cayce, March 18, 1877 – January 3, 1945.
A poem …

And a song: that marks Herbie Hancock being awarded the Polar Prize

The next ten question set is on the 3rd April: it’s about 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Cheers, Olga.   The weight’s stayed the same: but at least I’ve got new slippers!

        Hello, Mum!

Morning, Irene: how was the weekend … ?

§        Green thoughts?   You mean about recycled dolphins, Debbi?   (Strictly speaking, the Republic of Ireland’s not part of the UK!!!)

Sorry about the weight, but good on the slipper's front. I do love them but I try not to buy too many of them, and the really nice ones can be awfully expensive.
It seems the little fledgling has gone. This morning when I got up I thought it had already left, because the nest was empty, but it was just standing on a branch quite far from the nest, and then I managed to capture a couple of videos where he kept jumping from branch to branch and going back to the nest. Both parents turned up at some point, and I thought they were trying to encourage it to fly. I told my mother that it would go while I was away (I had an English class with Jordi this morning, as he had to change from yesterday, and I have to go to the radio station this afternoon, so it was likely I'd miss his flight), and when I came back it was gone. My mother missed it as well although she was here. I don't think it must have been a long time before I came back, because one of the parents came by and seemed surprised to find the nest empty, and since both of them have been, together, even sitting on the nest for a while. I've read that they can lay eggs three or four times a year, but I have no idea if they return to their nests. I haven't seen that anywhere. We shall see. They will be missed.
