OK … it’s Tuesday.

Which hopefully means I’ll be watching the next episode of For All Mankind, tonight.

Once my nephew’s gone home.

Ann Widdecombe’s recent death is being investigated by Cornish police.

Or had been.

The suspect was being questioned on charges of murder … but is now being investigated on various counter-terrorism charges.

The public’s been asked not to speculate on the case: but I doubt that’s going to stop people.

Me in particular!

Right now … ?   I’m wondering what sort of extremist the suspect is: left wing, or right wing?

I can’t see a radical right-wing thug* trying to kill her: I can’t see them targeting someone who was a socially conservative, Euro-sceptic.

But, just as equally?

I can’t see loony left environmentalists targeting the late Miss Widdecombe.

They usually just throw paint at pictures.

We’ll probably never know: until the suspect is tried …

14th July, 2025.

At the moment … ?

I have a high definition, commercially-produced, blu-ray: in an optical drive just to my immediate right.

Copying, before you ask, with MakeMKV: so that, later on, I can re-code the copy with HandBrake.

When I first tried ripping this particular disc?

I got extremely noisy whining from the drive: whining that told me that the mix of hardware and software was having issues reading the disc.

It’s a very distinct noise: similar to, but quieter than, a dentist drill going through a tooth.

Thankfully?

The old trick — washing the disc in war, soapy, water — seems to have helped.

The disc is copying as we speak.

We’re going to have to see how this goes …

The fact I’m doing that?

Is possibly going to raise questions: especially for newer readers.

“Can I do that?” is going to be the main one.

Yes you can: given the right mix of software and hardware.

The other is “Am I allowed to do that?”

That’s a grey area.

If I’ve understood things correctly, the answer is “No”.

But also “Yes: given the right circumstances”.

I believe there was an old bit of UK law — or possibly regulation — that allowed you to copy a vinyl record you owned to cassette, purely for personal use.

You wanted to listen to the LP on the car stereo, or on a personal cassette player: but you couldn’t sell copies, or give them away.

I believe that could apply here, as a precedent: I’m making a copy purely for personal use.

But I don’t know if that would hold up in a court of law.

So long as the disc copies?

I’m not going to worry too much … !

14th July, 2024: France.

Right … someone’s tried shooting Donald Trump.

And, frankly?

I don’t know if I approve, or not: although, granted, shooting the idiot seems tempting.

And means a possible way for Joe Biden to win the election.

I doubt it, somehow.

Frankly?

Surviving an assassination attempt will be a very good advert* for Trump: it won’t surprise me if he ends up getting a huge sympathy vote as a result of an ‘evil’, Democrat attempt on his life.

No, before you ask, I don’t think the Democrats had anything to do with this attempt.

I do think people will be blaming them, though!

I do know a couple of things, though.

Firstly?

The chap that attempted to shoot the former President has been named as Thomas Matthew Crooks: and was shot and killed by the Secret Service.

That’s understandable: that is part of their job, after all.

But strikes me as … … possibly unwise.

I would rather the shooter be captured alive: as I’d like to hear his personal explanation of his actions.

As, I’m sure, would the people and courts of the USA.

So that’s one thing.

The other?

Is simply that at least one witness spotted the shooter on the roof of the stadium where the rally was being held.

And told the police about it.

Who were … well … unhelpful!

Frankly, between them, the Secret Service and the shooter?

And however Trump, Biden and the people of the US feel about this?

The incident has handed Donald Trump the election.

But … ?

On a personal front, I can happily announce I’ve reached 1, 200 subscribers on YouTube.

Another one hundred subscribers, though?

Right … it’s Friday … 

Which means I know what I’m doing, tonight: watching another episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

And it has to be said: the show’s looking very good.

Hopefully?

Tonight’s episode will carry on the trend.

Is that I have copies of a pair of nuclear war dramas: of both Threads, and The Day After.

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to catch one of them, at some point.

Is that it’s predicted to hit a high of 30°C in Brentwood, today.

I’m not looking forward to that.

At least it’s not going to ba as bad as yesterday’s 31°!

It’s official.

The weather looks a lot like it did on Monday: ever so slightly grim.

It’s overcast: with the possible promise of rain.

Unlike yesterday, which was relatively sunny.

That means stocking up on spuds … ?   Is going to be fun!

Or, to be more precise, watching the Emmys.

They don’t usually get aired, over here.

However?

This year’s nominations have been released … and The Mandalorian’s done well.

It’s nice to know I’ve backed a potential winner.

You’re possibly aware that the Job Centre’s put me on a Work and Health Programme: one that’s voluntary, at the moment.

Well … I’ve now got the start date: which is due to be a phone meeting with my Support Manager.

The reason it’s a phone meeting … ?

Well, from what I could gather, it’s partly concerns over COVID 19.

And partly the fact they’ve not managed to hire a venue in town …

I had a CT scan on Thursday

I’m dreading the results.

Which could be serious.

Serious or otherwise, I can only take the attitude that we’re encouraged to take at various Twelve Step groups.

Taking it a day at a time, in other words …

I’ve just seen one piece go past.

That Sinn Fein’s former leader, Gerry Adams, has had an explosive through at his house: by dissident republicans, apparently.

I know the guy’s got blood on his hands: from his earlier career as the leader of the Provisional IRA.

But … 

Well … 

I think someone wants to upset the applecart.

That doesn’t help Northern Ireland.

I’m not a football fan.

But I’m quite possibly going to be taping the half time section of the final, tomorrow.

The trailer for series eleven of Dr Who airs during half time.

Right … 

Looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me, today: catching up with the Teasers — and the appropriate videos — after a week that’s been … busy.

Not least yesterday, I should add.

I had an interview in London.

Which I was worried about, frankly.

The interview was in Southwark, on London Underground’s Jubilee Line.   And — me being me — I got off at Liverpool Street.

Which, as it turns out WASN’T … !

More fool me!

The upshot?   Was it only took twenty minutes to get from Liverpool Street to Southwark: a lot less than Google Maps said it would.

Which means I got to the interview an hour early.

Ho HUM!

At any rate?   The event went well enough.   But I won’t know until I hear back, if I’ve got a second interview.
