Right … 

You’ll be very away I caught the 1984, Threads, the other day.

It’s a great piece: but also one of the most harrowing things I think I’ve seen.

I don’t think I could see anything worse.

But?

The director of Threads — Mick Jackson — also directed a piece for the 1980s documentary series, QED: called “A Guide to Armageddon”.

I saw it, last night: as it was on YouTube.

That copy looks like it’s been transferred to computer from an old fashioned VHS tape: then uploaded to YouTube from there.

Either way … ?

It’s … unnerving.

Unnerving: especially Ludovic Kennedy’s blandly matter-of-fact narration.

Narration that informs us the top of the range bomb shelters … would only keep you safe if that were some four and a half miles from the nearest blast.

Narration informs us not everyone could afford those premium shelters.

And narration that makes life in a bomb shelter … sound a lot worse that the actual bomb … 

I’m glad a bomb hasn’t dropped.

I convinced one won’t: and that we’re more likely to kill ourselves with climate change.

But?

I’m very aware some countries — including the UK — have weapons they can use.

That’s a pleasant thought, isn’t it … ?

On a lighter note: one you’re possibly glad to see me move to … ?

Yes: my nephew was over, yesterday: and getting rather good at editing videos.

Or, at least, adding sound effects to his gaming videos.

25th December, 2022: Christmas Day.

It’s official: it’s Christmas Day.

And Sunday.

Personally?

I’ll be doing what I usually do: and spending it with my family.

Oh, and opening presents.

And watching others open presents.

Despite the fact some of them are in birthday cards, rather than Xmas cards?

I’m hoping they go down well.

At any rate … ?

And whatever I’m doing?

I hope you get things you need.

That isn’t necessarily the same as things you want.

You know, usually … ?

I don’t complain about international politics.

For a a given value of ‘usually,’ ‘complain’ or ‘politics.’

Obviously.

At any rate, the US State Department thinks Mr Trump’s ideas about imposing swinging tariffs is a good one.

And imposed some on Russia.

Using the nerve agent attacks in Salisbury, on Sergei and Yulia Skripal, as an excuse to do so.

Personally?

Hmmm … 

The British government says it welcomes the move.

I, personally, don’t.

I’m thinking, here, that’s it’s not direct interference in the actions or policies of the UK’s government.   But IS outside the US government’s remit.

It’s a response — to the best of my knowledge — the UK hasn’t done, itself: nor asked the US to do.

It’s not direct … 

But still interference, none-the-less.

And unwelcome, at that.
