Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-12-2017: The Turbulent Priest

Hmmm …

I’ve just got up: mostly to get my rear into gear, to head for work, at 9·30.

Lots going on there …

At ANY rate?

I’ve done my usual thing: turning on my TV so that I could put Radio 4 on.

I caught some news in the process.

An apartment block in New York has gone up in flames.

Granted, it seems to have not been on the same scale as Grenfell Tower.

But that still looks pretty nasty: in the midst of a city that’s one of the biggest on the planet.

My thoughts are in two places.

Firstly?   I’m hoping the authorities in New York can move a little quicker than Kensington and Chelsea: and quickly rehouse the survivors.

The Daily Teaser — 23-5-2016

Oh …

I usually have the radio on, at this time of the morning.

Usually?   Usually, you can guarantee I’ll be listening to Radio 4’s Today programme: as I am at the moment.

The Thought for the Day?   Told us that the relics of Saint Thomas à Becket are being transported back from Hungary: to Canterbury Cathedral, the church where he was killed by Knights Templars on the apparent orders of the king.   (The ‘Who will rid me of this troublesome priest’ incident, if you know your history.)

The reason that caught my attention?

Is the fact I grew up in Brentwood.

The major Anglican Church is Saint Thomas’s, and the town was on the pilgrimage route from the north, to Canterbury, the site of the saint’s veneration.

Amazing what you learn, growing up.
