Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2025 — Internet Explorer

15th July, 2025: Internet Explorer.

It’s Sunday …

And … ?

Lyse Doucet has just bee commenting on the conflict between Iran and Israel.

It’s says something, doesn’t it?

That the BBC’s international correspondent is commenting on a conflict … on a Sunday morning religious programme …

~≈😐≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s Sunday … and I’m planning on going beck to bed.

Why … ?

I’ve managed to finish a review, late.

I just hope the review makes sense!

~≈🎦≈~

There’s a certain amount of irony doing the rounds.

There’s opposition to the current US president: leading to the No Kings protests.

There were a lot, yesterday: including one encountered by Old Peculiar regular, Debbi Mack.

Seeing the phrase ‘No Kings’?

Always gets me thinking of a line from some of Sir Terry Pratchett’s odder characters.
“Nae king! Nae quin! Nae laird! Nae master! We willna’ be fooled again!”
The Wee Free Men, Terry Pratchett.
Which potentially means protestors are supposed to paint themselves blue, and steal cows.

Go look up the Feegles, if you get the chance.

At any rate, the irony I mentioned?

Is simply this.

Many in the US were holding ‘No Kings’ protests …

When the Charles 3rd, King of the UK … was attending the Trooping the Colour ceremony, to mark his birthday.

Heigh … ho … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th June 2024.

15th June, 2024.

Right … Saturdays … Is the day of the week to be doing something.

If you have the time, money or inclination!

Which frankly?

I don’t!

No … I intend to watch TV at some option, today.

The penultimate episode of Dr Who’s on!

Did I mention my pharmacist is wonderful?

My pharmacist is wonderful!

I’ve run out of one specific medication — Trulicity — yesterday.

And, at the time I picked up the rest of my meds?

They had no alternatives.

However … ?

I managed to email my pharmacist: who was able to recommend a couple of (thankfully available) alternatives.

Hopefully, when I talk to the surgery on Tuesday?

We’ll be able to sort something out.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2023 — Arkansas.

15th June, 2023: Arkansas.

What on Earth is going on there … ?

I woke up this morning, knowing perfectly well it’s Thursday.

Very aware.

But … ?

Convinced it was a Wednesday!

How DOES that happen?

~≈Ω≈~

The one thing I do know?

Is that my nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday: with the same problem!

Thinking it Tuesday, when it was Wednesday!

Oh, well.

At least he got some videos done!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th June, 2022

15th June, 2022.

Yes: it’s Wednesday.

Which means … ?
  • I’m going to have to send in my appeal form by post: I couldn’t do it online, as the website was having problems!
  • I’m off to Chelmsford, today: my Restart worker has booked me a place at a Job Fair!
Whether those help … ?

I don’t know.

~≈fl≈~

If you’re in the UK … ?

You’ll know that many of us — usually on various benefits — are due extra help: in the form of a $650 payment in two lump sums, and £400 on our fuel bills.

According to this piece from the BBC?

The first payment — of £326 — should hit banks accounts from 14th July.

I hope so: it would come in handy!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2021: Bilbao

15th June, 2021.

Right …

Quite what happened there, I don’t know.

But the phone call I was due to have from my GP’s, yesterday?

Has been re-arranged for Thursday.

Quite what’s happening, there, I don’t know.

I do know I’ve got a meeting with my Job Centre case-worker, this afternoon: in person, for once.

That should be good: it’s the first time I’ve met her her in person.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2020: National Beer Day

15th June, 2020.

Yes: it’s now the 15th June  … and Lockdown is starting to ease.

We still have to keep two metres apart … AND wear face masks on public transport.

If you wear glasses, the condensation is mad!

At ANY rate … ?

I can theoretically get to the High Street and sell a box set.

Assuming CeX is definitely open … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2019: The Bombing

15th June, 2019.

Yep: it’s officially official …

Huawei are having more issues.

After Samsung’s folding phone was withdrawn, Huawei announced that they were suspending the release of theirs: as it was having problems.

They’ve ALSO cancelled the launch of their upcoming hi-end Windows laptop: partly over chip supply problems, and partly because Microsoft won’t necessarily supply versions the operating system.

How Huawei resolves that?

I don’t know about the chips: but they’ve patented a new phone OS, already!

They might well put that on the laptop: there’s plenty of hybrids around that show it can be done.

We’ll have to see …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th June, 2018

15th June, 2018.

Yep: I’ve actually not just got tomorrow off: but Sunday, too.

It means … ?   I’ve got the weekend off!

The first one I’ve taken voluntarily …

For some time.

Frankly?

I’m looking forward to it!

~≈§≈~

While I’m here … ?

I’m on Universal Credit: a government benefit that’s claimed by many, and designed to replace many others.

I get it?   To help with my rent.

I’ve ALSO felt it’s badly handled.

The benefits it replaces?   Were paid fortnightly.   Universal Credit?   Monthly.

When I was fully unemployed?   Monthly pay is something I know I struggled with: especially after a lifetime of weekly and fortnightly pay.

Granted, right now?   I’m doing ok, so far.

But when I went onto it?

It took quite some time to get payment.

Today?

The National Audit Office has ALSO criticised the thing.

Arguing that it’s more expensive than the benefits it’s replacing.

And … ?

That late payment’s an issue for many people.

Personally?

I’m glad someone agrees with me!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2017

Twelve people are dead, who were alive, yesterday.

As you know … ?

Grenfell Tower, a hi-rise in North Kensington, burnt to death, yesterday.

Twelve of the residents are known to have died as a result.

Residents were either jumping from windows: or throwing babies out, in order to save them

And many more are either in hospital … or missing.

Yes, I think saying the Tower has burnt to death, is the correct way of putting it.   It’s a community that’s died, as much as any of the inhabitants.

There’s talk.

Apparently?

The cladding used to insulate the tower has, apparently, been link to other hi-rise fires.   Smoke and fire alarms were, reportedly, inaudible.   And, apparently, gas pipes weren’t boxed off, correctly.

Obviously, there’s multiple factors involved.

Personally?

I’d love to know how that started.   I can only hope it wasn’t deliberate …

~≈®≈~

Equally as personally?

I’m wondering what would happen on my street, Rollason Way, should a fire start?

I couldn’t tell you.

I’m no expert on fire regulations, fire safety, what have you.

I do know I lived in a Housing Trust bedsit, many years ago.   Basically, a room in a four-bedroom flat: with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and living room.   Whilst it didn’t have fire extinguishers, it did have a fire blanket in the communal kitchen.   So if the chip pan went up, you could put it out.

I lived in a bedsitter on Ingrave Road: run by Brentwood Council.   You had a bed-sitting room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom: and had access to communal gardens, and a shared laundry room.

I don’t recall if we had a fire blanket in each flat: I think there were, but it was a while ago.   There were fire extinguishers in the corridors.

You could, in theory, grab one, and do something.

Here in my Housing Association flat?

I have no fire blanket provided by my landlord: although I don’t know if the current regulations support that.

There are no fire extinguishers in the corridors: again, I don’t know if current regulations are for or against that.

There is, in my building?   A Certain amount of compartmentalisation: you can shut a door to stop a fire spreading.   But no clearly marked fire exits.   There are in other building in the area, built at the same time.

That’s before you get to an issue I’ve brought up on this blog for years,

That the parking on Rollason Way means emergency vehicle access was incredibly difficult: when I moved in, ten years ago.   It hadn’t improved, a few years later.   It’s just as bad, now, if not worse: new flats going up will add more parked cars, and impede access further.

I hope a building on my street doesn’t burn to death.

It …

Well …

We residents will have problems.

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 15-6-2016

You know, I‘ve on a day off, at the mo.

But frankly?

And despite not needing to go out?

Frankly, I’m getting a touch of cabin fever: AND need to get a new mouse mat!

With that said … ?

Let’s get a move on …

~≈†≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-6-2016

Right …

I’m officially up …

And, with a day off ahead of me?

Thinking, with a certain amount of anticipation, that I’m going to go back to bed!

Yes, you’ve guessed it: I’ve been up, late, watching The Strain, again!

On the OTHER hand … ?

On the other hand, I might not: I’ve got the three last episodes to get through, tonight … !
