Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th February 2024.

19th February, 2024.

You have to love Mondays, don’t you … ?

Or possibly not!

At any rate … ?

It’s a Monday.

And I’m off to my weight management group.

Hopefully?

I’ve lost a little weight.

Although won’t know for sure, until I’m on the scales.

~≈¥≈~

Just as a quick thought … ?

I remember reading Geldof’s biography, Is That It, many years ago.

At one point, Geldof tells us David Mallet — who directed the video for “I Don’t Like Mondays” — was partially inspired by Village of the Damned*.

I don’t know if it was or it wasn’t.

But … ?

Both pieces are memorable.

King of Thieves: A Review

26th January, 2019.

Right …

as much as I like the current version of iMovie … ?

And Mojave … ?

I think I’m in a bind …

As it’s taken about ten minutes to render the video in that intro.

I’m not exactly a happy bunny.

After all, that’s a lot of time … when you consider that iMovie had been doing those renders in about half that time.

At most.

This possibly means I need radical action, here.

Switching on my old Mac, and seeing what I can do.

At any rate … ?

That’s something I’ll have to concentrate on, another time.

Whilst I wait for any iMovie or Mojave updates.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, it’s a quiet Saturday night.

And … ?

Well, I’m tempted to do several things … several sweaty things … several sweaty things that, unfortunately, involved either money or company …

A movie it is, then … !

And, yes: I had just enough cash in my iTunes account to get …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th February, 2018

19th February, 2018.

Yep: it’s a official.

I owe my family a great big thank you.

They’ve gone and treated me to a new computer.

You can possible guess the brand, can’t you … ?

Right now … ?

Right now, I’ve got to confess I’m still transferring stuff over from my old machine: when setting up this Mac, I made the decision to try and import everything from my Time Machine Backup.

Which didn’t take.

So, instead, I decided to import everything from my old Mac over my local network: rather than directly connect the things.

The slow and fiddly way, in other words.

I’m ALSO still getting used to the interface.

It’a familiar enough that I can start using using it, yesterday.

But different enough to confuse me.

And automatically capitalises the letter ‘I’: which is awkward if you’re trying to write a post with raw HTML tags.

Still …

I’d possibly only get bored if things stay the same … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-2-2017

Ye gods, I’m tired … !

That’s the perils of manning the phone for ten hours.

AND getting up to go back to work for another seven … ?

Par for the course!

I can at least say one thing.

I’ve got a teapot: and I know how to use it … !

44 Inch Chest:A Measure of Revenge for A Penny …

Can I be honest, here?

Can I … ?

You’ve probably guessed, by now, that I’m not a football fan.

But one surely has to ask if Fabio Capello made the right decision in putting Robert Green in goal, tonight.

If I’ve understood things correctly, goalies aren’t exactly supposed to let the ball in.

Oh, don’t get me wrong.

It’s not like I actually went and watched it. But it does seem to crop up on the news-pages …

I’ve also got to confess that Movie Night Adrian isn’t a football fan, either.

And happened to have a copy of the 2009, Malcolm Venville directed film, 44 Inch Chest.

I think Adrian’s found something of a treasure …

Seriously.

Now, if I gave you the basic plot idea of a film, what would you expect?

44 Inch Chest opens with an extreme close up of Ray Winstone, in the films central rôle of Colin Diamond, a gangster who comes home to wife, Liz — played by Joanne Whalley — who has some … news … for him.

That’s she’s met and fallen in love with another man.

Understandably, Colin doesn’t exactly react well to this.

Would you?

I don’t think I have, in the past.

I think many of us would be sympathetic.

Sympathetic, certainly …

Colin’s friend are …

They helpfully kidnap Liz’s lover and smuggle him to an abandoned terrace house, where he stays mostly in an otherwise empty wardrobe — or tied to a chair — for the rest of the film.

You can possibly imagine the sort of treatment he gets, can’t you … ?

It’s not good …

But 44 Inch Chest doesn’t exactly stick to the script.

Or, rather, it — and the rather top-notch cast — stick very much to the script.

The script just doesn’t go in the direction you’d expect from a revenge-driven, gangster film, it really doesn’t.

•••••

That’s actually quite a good thing, I think.

Because I think what Adrian and I have watch, tonight, is possibly one of the best films I think we’ve seen in a long time.

And, as you can imagine, that cover’s a lot of territory.

Actually, Adrian had an interesting point to make.

When he mentioned that he’d borrowed 44 Inch Chest from Brentwood Library, he mentioned that he felt it might be best to watch it with a mostly single-sex audience.

I think he’s right: there’s one or two scenes in 44 Inch Chest that women may find …

If not objectionable or uncomfortable, then certainly cause for comment.

Hmmmm …

You know, that could well be a good excuse to re-watch 44 Inch Chest in female company.

Along with a copy of Jodie Foster’s The Accursed. It’d probably be an interesting comparison …
