Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-4-2022: Sir Terry Pratchett

28th April, 2022.

Right … it’s Thursday: which means I’m expecting my nephew over, at some point.

But also the day after I’ve managed to finished a review!

If you want to know what I thought of The Batman?

You can!

I just hope it makes sense!

Back in Black

12th February, 2017.

You know, I felt I should maybe write.

Which is a little non-specific, I know.

I could be writing a lot …

A poem …  a song … a teaser …

All sorts of things.

But I wanted something known.

The Daily Teaser — 28-4-2016

Hmmm …

I’ve got to make a confession, I had the day off, yesterday: ill.

With the usual intense stomach cramps.

I think I didn’t actually help myself, by walking to work.

Believe it or not, the walk up Warley Hill occasionally helps.

It didn’t yesterday: My guts didn’t actually calm down, until about four-ish.

After I’d had an emergency appointment with my doctor’s practise nurse, who prescribed a little something for me.

Which turns out to ALSO be handy for Irritable Bowel syndrome!

Ouch!

On other fronts … ?

I’m doing what I usually do, at this time of the morning: listening to Radio 4’s Today programme.

They’s had a piece on, telling us that the BBC is planing to work with Netflix, on a remake of Watership Down.

That’s — apparently — planned to be ‘less disturbing’ than the original.

Hmm …

I don’t how to feel about that.

The scary bits are part of what made the original so memorable …

The Daily Teaser — 12-3-2016: Sir Terry Pratchett.

You know, it’s not often I write about the day’s Teaser in the intro to a Teaser.

But … ?

Today’s the first anniversary of my favourite writer, Sir Terry Pratchett.

And I have to admit, I’m finding it a little sad: it’s a bit like remembering ones favourite rock star, on the anniversary of his death.

And there’s been a few of them gone, recently!

But, at any rate … ?

I’m working, tonight.

And thinking of a couple of things.

I’m thinking I’ve a spare copy of Raising Steam‡ I should give away …

And, mentally, sending thoughts to Sir Terry’s surviving family.

The Daily Teaser — 9-2-2016

Oh …

Nice … !

You’ve probably worked out I’m a fan of writer, Terry Pratchett.   One upset by his death, and the Alzheimer’s that was a contributing factor in it, but one who treasures the collection of work by the man: still sitting on my shelves.

At any rate … ?   I’ve got up, this morning, and done my usual thing: making a cuppa, cleaning my teeth … and quickly checking the BBC news site, before opening up a new post, here.

One thing caught my eye.

The news that Salisbury Council have approved plans for a statue of Terry Pratchett.

Personally … ?

I think that’s entirely appropriate.

The Daily Teaser — 28-9-2015

People that have followed me for a while will have realised I’m a Terry Pratchett fan.

One who’s been a fan since the early days of his Discworld series: after picking up a copy of The Colour of Magic, back in the 1980s.

Well …

I finally finished his last book, The Shepherd’s Crown: quite quietly, in bed, last night.

And … ?   Frankly, I think that’s possibly some of the saddest words I could write: “… finished his last book.”

It’s kind of hard to explain.   But I’ve taken a deep joy in the worlds Sir Terry created.

The saddest part of book … ?   Was coming to the end of it, with the realisation that there will be no more of them.

No more Tiffany.   No more witches.   No more Feegles.   The road to Ankh-Morpork is closed.

Yes, there’s STILL a lot of Discworld novels out there.

But nothing new.

Between you and me … ?   And this will sound odd, I know.

But between you and me, I gently whispered “Thank you, Terry” to my copy of The Shepherd’s Crown, last night*.

It was the only way I had of thanking the man for all the delight he’s given me.

The Friday Question Set — 4-9-2015

That’s something sad, done …

You’ve possibly realised I’m a Terry Pratchett fan, haven’t you?

I am, if you hadn’t realised.

And I’m one who’s just ordered his last book, The Shepard’s Crown through Amazon.

Much as I’d LIKE to have got it from my local branch of Waterstone’s, it’s actually a couple of quid cheaper, that way.

I have to confess: I felt sad about ordering it.

It is, after all, my favourite author ’s last book.

That’s not when I’m expecting things to get really bad.

I’m expecting things to get really sad, when I’ve actually finished the thing.

That’s when I’m expecting the Onion Fairy* to turn up …

The Daily Teaser — 30-3-2015

You know, blurt …

Thingie …

Wossname … Rhubarb … With a head on it …

Yargle … !   Argh … !

Bleagh …

I swear, I will never get the hang of daylight saving!

Just in case you hadn’t worked out, clocks have gone forward, here in the UK: the annual change in times, at the end of March and October.

It always throws my body clock out.

Not by much … but just enough to make sure I need a GOOD long run up to a keyboard … !

Ripples …

OK …

I was going to write this post, briefly and quickly, on my phone.

As you may or MAY not realise, I‘ve a new phone: a Sony Xperia E1.

It’s a nice little phone: one I’ve downloaded a basic writing app for, as well as the Blogger app.

In the vague expectation of writing something on the proverbial go, for Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.

Quite WHAT, I don’t know.   But I’d think of something, no doubt.

But frankly … ?

Well, the version of Android on my phone — Kitkat, apparently — is broadly similar enough to iOS to be reassuring to me.

But different enough to be bloody awkward.

I couldn’t work out how to select ALL the text I’d written, in order to transfer it to the Blogger app, in other words!
