For All Mankind — Series 5 Episode 2 — “The Hard Six” — A Review

14th July, 2026.
“The Hard Six”.
The Introduction.

It’s officially the case that a man in search of a wife … is possibly some kind of weird stalker.

Or trying to paraphrase Jane Austin.

Or getting mental images of some of the odder characters in The League of Gentlemen.

Which is possibly a whole other post.

At any rate?

It’s Tuesday.

Which means I’ll be watching “The Hard Six”, the next episode of For All Mankind, tonight.

When writing the bulk of this review: and releasing it, and the parallel video version, by this coming Friday.

I’m starting this post early … as I’m expecting my nephew this afternoon.

Fun — and possibly pizza — will be had … before the main event …

Let’s move on …

The War Between the Land and the Sea — Episode 2 “Plastic Apocalypse” — A Review

6th December, 2025: “Plastic Apocalypse”.
The Introduction.

As I write, it’s still Saturday night.

And the burger I mentioned, here, is still cooking.

The chief difference that — right now? — the spuds are in the air fryer.

That’s still not grabbing your attention, is it?

~≈🧜🏼‍♂️≈~

That’s still a digression: so let me welcome newcomers to Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar, and tell them — you — there’s an associated YouTube channel, and that I write the Daily Teaser quiz, and movie and TV reviews.

Again, that isn’t something I need to remind long term readers, about.

But, whether you’re an old timer, or new to this blog?

I’ve started watching the Dr Who spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea.

Starting with the first episode, “Homo Aqua”, on Sunday: and the second episode, “Plastic Apocalypse”, on Tuesday, 9th December, 2025.

I’ll be doing the same thing, for episodes three and four, next week: and something very similar for the last episode!

Yes: I have started reviews of the first two episodes, early: but December is busy … !

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Series 3 Episode 2 — “Wedding Bell Blues” — A Review

20th August, 2025: “Wedding Bell Blues” — The Intro.

Right, then: it’s officially Sunday lunchtime.

And … ?

I’m starting a post early.

Thursday gone, I caught the first episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds new season, and came away impressed.

It took me a while to do the written and video reviews, though.

So I’m glad I got an early start on the things!

So … ?

That’s why I’m starting this post, early: it gives me more time to write the thing!

At any rate … ?

When I started the review of “Hegemony, Pt 2”, it was Thursday: and felt muggy.

Thunderously muggy.

It’s now Sunday … and we’ve had not a jot of lightning.

I’ll be overcoming my (mild) disappointment, by watching the next episode, “Wedding Bell Blues”, tonight.

Then writing about it …

Then publishing what I’ve written, by Wednesday, 23rd July, at the latest.

Hopefully?

Both written and video reviews will be worth your time.

Doctor Who — Series 15/Season 2 - Episode 2 — “Lux” — A Review

18th April, 2025: “Lux”.

Right then … it’s officially Friday.

Or, at least, I’ve started this post about a Doctor Who episode called “Lux” on a Friday, 18th April, 2028.

In the desperate hope that I can get it finished by Saturday 19th April: the day of broadcast.

I’d like to get some feedback on the day … !

At any rate: I’ve yet to see the episode at the time of writing this introduction, and am planning to catch the iPlayer version, rather than the broadcast version.

I’m looking forward to it.

Alan Cumming is playing the villain of the piece: and he’s usually interesting.

So long as his singing’s not too fruity … !

At any rate, by the time you read this … ?

It’ll be Saturday …

Doctor Who — The Savages — Episode 2 — A Review

2nd April, 2025: Doctor WhoThe Savages.

Right then.

It’s officially Wednesday.

In case you didn’t know!

Which means … I am as bored as wosname.

And waiting for a blu-ray to turn up.

It struck me, the other day, that I haven’t seen Aliens — the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien — in many years.

So I felt it’s something I should correct.

There may be a review: you never know …

~≈👨🏼‍⚕️≈~

Ah … the things just got here …

And … ?

I bought the 4k version of Alien, recently.

And … ?

It has to be said for roughly the same price as the 4k Aliens box, Alien just had 2k and 4k versions of the film: with very little in the way of extras, beyond some audio commentaries.

The 4k box set of Aliens?   Includes a whole extra disc-full of extras.

At £19.99 for either?   Aliens seems far better value than Aliens.

~≈👨🏼‍⚕️≈~

At any rate … ?

It is — as I’ve already said! — Wednesday!

So, tonight … ?

I’ll be doing what I promised I’d do.

I’m going to be watching episode two of classic Dr Who story, The Savages.

Then — hopefully — tell you about it, by tomorrow night.

By the time you finish reading this … ?

You’ll know what I think.

Doctor Who — The Savages — Episode 1 — A Review

26th March, 2025: Doctor Who — The Savages.

Yes: it’s officially official.

It’s a Wednesday.

And … ?

I seem to have a lot of time on my hands.

But you knew that: if you’ve been following both my blog, and my YouTube channel, for a while.

So … ?

What with one review after another?

I’ve been trying to keep myself busy.

To the point I’ve bought something from Amazon.

Yes: I’ve now own Scream of the Shalka: and will watch that at some point.

But, before I go near that … ?

I’ve also — as you’ve noticed — got a copy of the classic Dr Who story, The Savages: the most recently released re-animated story and the last to feature Peter Purves as Steven Taylor.

Frankly?

I’ve been looking forward to this for a while …

Doctor Who — The Celestial Toymaker — Episode 2 — “The Hall of Dolls” — A Review

13th September, 2024: An Introduction.

Yes: it’s Friday, again.

And, frankly?

I’ve had a quiet day.

Bar getting a little shopping … and forgetting to pick up a prescription!

Never mind!

At any rate … ?

It’s a Friday: dinner is cooking.

And … ?

Once I’ve had that, and caught another episode of The Big Bang Theory … ?

I’ll be watching the next episode of classic Dr Who series, The Celestial Toymaker: you’ll be reading this, or watching the video version, by Sunday, 15th September.

I’ll see you then.

Doctor Who — Series 14/Season 1 - Episode 2 — “The Devil's Chord” — A Review

12th May, 2024: an introduction.

Right …

It’s now Sunday.

And … ?

I’ve had some sleep.

I was up late, last night, finishing the first of two reviews: of the opening episodes the new series of Doctor Who.

I say new series … as I’m still not sure about calling it series fourteen — it is the fourteenth series of the rebooted version of the show — or the first.

Which is pretty mush what Disney+, who are helping to fund the show, are insisting on.

At any rate?

This weekend saw the airing of the first two episodes of the new series.

You’ve hopefully noticed my reviews of “Space Babies”.

Noticed … and hopefully enjoyed!

With that said?

I’m writing this introduction on Sunday, 12th May, 2024, and will be watching “The Devil’s Chord” tonight, once I’ve had dinner.

I’ll be letting you know what I thought of the episode, late, tomorrow night.

I’ll see you then.

Star Trek Discovery — Season 5 Episode 2 — “Under The Twin Moons” — A Review

6th April, 2024: the Announcement!

Which … it’s officially official.

It’s early on Saturday evening.

Or late afternoon.

Depending on whether you think it’s afternoon or evening … when it’s still daylight out!

At any rate … ?

Dinner is officially being cooked.

The soundtrack for the original version of The Omen is playing in the background.

And — by the time you read this? — I will have seen “Under the Twin Moons”, the second episode of Star Trek Discovery’s fifth season.

Right … back, tomorrow …

Phew!

It’s officially Sunday night.

Or, at least, Sunday evening!

Dinner is — as you may or may not have guessed — cooking.

Chicken, so you know.

At any rate … ?

When that’s eaten, I’ll be watching the next episode of classic Dr Who story, The Underwater Menace: then telling you about it, tomorrow night.

I’ll see you then!

Dr Who Anniversary Specials — Wild Blue Yonder — A Review

2nd December: an introduction.

Right …

Any minute now, I’m going to be eating a bacon sandwich: for lunch.

This evening?

I’ll be having an early dinner … then watching “Wild Blue Yonder”, the next Doctor Who 60th anniversary special episode.

I’ll have this review done, by tomorrow night!

Hopefully?

You’ll be back to read it: or to watch the video review!

For All Mankind — Series 4 Episode 2 — “Have a Nice Sol” — A Review

20th November, 2023: the Intro.

Yes: it’s officially Monday.

And potatoes are being boiled.

Quite what I’ll have with them, I don’t know: I fancy chicken kyiv … but don’t actually have any!

What I do have … ?

Is slightly blurred vision.

That’s a result of a diabetic retinopathy test, earlier today.

Here’s hoping the results are good.

~≈👁️≈~

At any rate?

But the time I’ve finished dinner?

I’ll be ready to watch “Have a Nice Sol”, the next episode of For All Mankind, tonight.

I’ll have my review up, tomorrow.

I’ll see you then …

Good Omens Series 2 Episode 2 — “The Clue” — A Review

1st September, 2023: the Intro.

Right … I have to admit to starting this post, very early.

At roughly 11:30 on a Friday morning.

A lot earlier than usual: normally I’m cooking dinner.

But?

I’m looking after my nephew, today.

And I’ve started this review post early, to save time, later.

At ANY rate?

I’m going to be watching another episode of Good Omens, tonight: and telling you about it, tomorrow: I’ll see you then.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds S02 E02 — “Ad Astra Per Aspera” — A Review

23rd June, 2023:  “Ad Astra Per Aspera”.

It’s got to be said, payday can be frantic.

OK, granted, I got into town early: for a diabetic foot check.

Which went well enough.

But the rest of the day’s gone … iffyly!

I’ll probably tell you more in the morning!

At any rate … ?

I’m going have dinner, whilst watching an old friend’s video about Judge Dredd.

Then … ?

Watching “Ad Astra Per Aspera”, the next epidote of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

I’ll let you know more, tomorrow!

~≈🖖≈~

Tuesday, 6 June 2023

The Mandalorian — Series 3 Episode 2 — Chapter 18 The Mines of Mandalore — A Review

5th June, 2023: Chapter 18 — “The Mines of Mandalore”.

Yes: it’s Monday night.

And … ?

Frankly, I’m going to be having dinner in a bit: whilst watching an old friend’s YouTube video about comics;

And after rewatching my nephew’s latest video;

I’m glad they’re both short.

It means I can get through them, whilst I’m eating … then watch “The Mines of Mandalore”, the next episode of The Mandalorian.

Once I’ve had dinner and stopped gossiping with the neighbours … !

Star Trek Picard — Series 3 Episode 2 — Disengage — A Review

SPOILERS!

24th February, 2023: ‘Disengage.’

Right …

It’s a Friday: again.

And?

Even as we speak, vegetables are boiling, chips — or, at least, chip shaped rose potatoes — are cooking …

And fish … ?

Is, likewise, being cooked.

Why … ?   I still don’t know.

Explanations on the back of a postcard, please!

~≈🖖≈~

At any rate, the point I’m trying to make?

Is that it’s Friday: and, again?

I’m going to watching another episode of Star Trek Picard, tonight.

Episode two, so you know: called ‘Disengage.’

I’ll have this review finished, and posted, tomorrow night.

I’ll see you then.

I’m back from my family’s, after dinner …

I’m going to be watching Game Changer: the second episode of For All Mankind’s third series.

I’m looking forward to it: and getting my review up, tomorrow.

In theory, anyway.

Chips, hideously grilled, fish, baked … and vegetables boiled.

By the time it’s all eaten … ?

This post will be up tomorrow: which is when you’ll find out what I thought …

~≈👽≈~

Doctor Who — The Abominable Snowmen — Episode 2 — A Review

14th November, 2022.

Right at the moment … ?

It’s a Monday night.

And I’ve got potatoes on the go.

Potatoes, vegetables … and chicken.

I’m going for healthy eating, frankly.

At any rate … ?

It’s Monday.

And I’m going to be eating dinner, listening to I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue …

Then watching the next episode of classic Dr Who serial, The Abominable Snowmen.

Hopefully?

There’ll be a game of Mornington Crescent in the offing!

Star Trek Strange New Worlds — Episode 2 — Children of the Comet — A Review

23rd September, 2022.

Right … It’s Friday, again.

And I’ve an appointment with my opticians, tomorrow.

There’s times like this I’m grateful to be on benefits: it means that I can up to three pairs of news prescription spectacles.

Admittedly, cheap spectacles: but new ones, none the less.

So … ?

Once I’ve had dinner, I’ll be getting an early night.

Once I’ve watched Children of the Comet, the next episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

I’ll see you … after I’ve had my eyes tested!
