Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th May, 2018

29th May, 2018.

Yes, it’s officially official: it’s a day off …

Possibly one I can can watch a movie on: I’ve got a few things in the collection …

At ANY rate … ?

I’d like to head out, at some point: if for no other reason than to chase up a GP’s appointment, following up on the scan results.

Thinking it’d be nice and sunny.

And … ?   Wouldn’t you know it?   Wouldn’t you JUST know it … ?

It’s raining.

Is it just me, or is life still a four letter word … ?

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi* putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Which club was the first English side to win the European Cup: on 29th May, 1968?
Q2) Which English king was born on 29th May, 1630?
Q3) Who was named as King of England: on 29th May, 1660?
Q4) Constantinople was captured by an Ottoman army: on 29th May, 1453.   The city’s capture marked the end of which empire?
Q5) Finally … singer, Jenny Lind, left New York on 29th May, 1852: after her successful US tour.   Which showman had originally arranged the tour?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was declared itself independent, one hundred years ago, today: on 28th May, 1918.   From where: the Russian Empire, the Ottoman Empire or the British Empire?
A1) The Russian empire.
Q2) In the wake of strikes, 28th May, 1974, saw a power sharing agreement fall.   Where: Cyprus, Northern Ireland or Yemen?
A2) Northern Ireland.   (Not that it could collapse, again, today.   It still hasn’t met since the most recent collapse …)
Q3) 28th May, 1908, saw the birth of author, Ian Fleming.   During his time with Naval Intelligence in WW2, he worked on an operation monitoring Spain’s possibly alliance with Germany.   That operation was called Operation … what?
A3) Operation Goldeneye.   (You have to wonder where he got the implausible titles for the James Bond books.   As for where he got Pussy Galore …)
Q4) 28th May, 1968, saw the birth of which noted Australian singer: Nick Cave, Michael Hutchence or Kylie Minogue?
Q5) Finally … Thomas Cranmer, the then Archbishop of Canterbury, declared Henry 8th’s marriage valid: on 28th May, 1533.   Marriage to whom?
Here’s a thought …
“The only thing that has kept the race of men from the mad extremes of the convent and the pirate-galley, the night-club and the lethal chamber, has been mysticism — the belief that logic is misleading, and that things are not what they seem.”
G. K. Chesterton, 29 May 1874 – 14 June 1936.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Well … I get the impression most people in Northern Ireland don’t want a return to the Troubles, Olga: I think that’s the LAST thing people want.   But the fact the NI Assembly’s suspended at the moment, and that both sides are keen to not move?   Isn’t helping.   The DUP’s side’s ‘No Surrender’ attitude doesn’t help!   (Oh, I think the woman of Northern Ireland — on both sides — aren’t being quiet about it!)

†        I’ll happily be looking forward them!   (The new one for Identity Theft is rather good: nice and minimalist!)

Q1) Manchester United
Q2) Charles II
Q3) Charles II (it was a momentous date for him, for sure)
Q4) Byzantine
Q5) P.T. Barnum (I watched the recent movie. I don’t think it would be your thing but my mother really enjoyed it.)

Here the judges came up with a mind-blowing (and boggling) sentence to five men who raped a young woman, but according to them it wasn't sexual assault because she wasn't intimidated (la manada. You've probably heard about it: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/26/protests-spain-five-men-cleared-of-teenagers-gang-rape-pamplona) It's created a big uproar and I hope it changes the laws (and possibly gets rid of some judges). We shall see. I hope you can clarify things with the GP. All the best.

Almost forgot to mention, Debbi: Goldeneye should sound familiar.

Not only is it a Bond Movie, and its theme tune, but the film takes it’s name from Goldeneye, Fleming’s home in Jamaica
