Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-5-2018: Theft … !

9th May, 2018.

Yep, it’s officially Wednesday.

And ANOTHER day at work.

Where, thankfully?   The water’s back on.

Quite what switched it off?

I’m blowed if I know!

On other fronts … ?

I notice Facebook’s announced foreign funded ads in Ireland’s upcoming abortion poll AREN’T placed on the Irish branch of the site.

I get the feeling they’re treading carefully, wanting to make sure their complying with Irish electoral law, and using it as a chance to be visibly be doing something about inference in politics.

And doing it in Ireland as it’s a small country: and therefore easier to run an experiment like this, in.

Frankly?

Just on general principles, I welcome it.   From what I’ve seen, traditional media — TV, newspaper, radio — have to be very careful about how they report such things, and the adverts they display.

And can’t see why new media companies like Facebook be exempt: just because they’re new.

I look forward to the day the company introduces a similar policy in the UK.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Olga on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 9th May saw an attempt made to steal the UK’s Crown Jewel’s: by Colonel Thomas … who?
Q2) He made the attempt in which year of the 1670s?
Q3) He was disguised as a what: parson, beefeater or raven?
Q4) The Jewels were — and are still — kept in a what house?
Q5) That house is a former what: bank, barracks or bordello?
Q6) That house — and the Jewels — are in which London landmark?
Q7) In order to sneak it out of the Tower, the Colonel flattened the crown that’s been used to crown every British monarch since the 13th Century.   Which Saint’s crown IS that?
Q8) In the attempt, one of the Colonel’s co-conspirators shoved what down his trousers: the Sceptre with the Cross, the Sovereign’s Orb or the Coronation Spoon?
Q9) Was the current Imperial State Crown, one of The jewels stolen by the Colonel’s gang?
Q10) Finally … True or False: the Colonel was pardoned for the crime.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 8th May saw the formal founding of Paramount Pictures.   In which year?
A1) 1912.
Q2) Under what Famous name was the studio founded?
A2) Famous Players Film Company.
Q3) It’s first film was a version of which novel?
A3) The Count of Monte Cristo.
Q4) With a worldwide gross — at the time of writing — of $2,186,772,302, which 1997 film is Paramount’s biggest grossing?
A4) Titanic.
Q5) Finally … 2018 saw Paramount release it’s most recent — and very quiet — horror film.   What’s that film called?
A5) A Quiet Place.
Here’s a thought …
“Here lies the man who boldly hath run through
More villainies than England ever knew;
And ne’er to any friend he had was true.
Here let him then by all unpitied lie,
And let’s rejoice his time was come to die.”
The Colonel’s Epitaph, on his grave at St Margaret’s Church near Saint James Park.
And a song: one with the word crown in it …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’ll keep the course in mind, when I post up tomorrow’s answers, Olga!   Good luck with it!   And don’t worry: I’ve got 20 minutes into the Future on my Watch Later list, on YouTube!

†        Remind me to tell you about the Max Headroom incident, Debbi: a Chicago TV station got hijacked by someone in a Max Headroom mask …
