4th April, 2025: NATO Day.
Right … it’s Friday …
And I’m a little anxious.
Frankly?
There’s been no news on the MakeMKV front.
I’m still getting the Fatal Error message: as no known update has been issued.
I’m …
Well, let’s just say I’m feeling anxious!
~≈📀≈~
On the upside … ?
I’ve finished another review!
Yep: I’ve reviewed episode two of Classic Dr Who series, The Savages: fell free to leave me a comment … !
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring ten out of ten.
Well done, everyone.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) 4th April is NATO Day. NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty … what?Q2) The day marks the signing of the relevant treaty. In which year of the 1940s?Q3) NATO has how many member nations: 16, 32 or 64?Q4) Most of the member nations are where: Europe, North America or Africa?Q5) Finally … ? And at the time of writing (Feb 2025)… ? Is Ukraine a member of NATO?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 2001: A Space Odyssey had its US debut on 3rd April. Of which year of the 1960s?A1) 1968.Q2) It had its world premiere on the 2nd April of that year. In a cinema in which US city?A2) Washington DC.Q3) Who directed 2001: A Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg or George Lucas?A3) Stanley Kubrick.Q4) The director co-wrote the film with which writer: Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov or Poul Anderson?A4) Arthur C. Clarke. (If I recall what I’ve heard correctly? Asimov and Clarke were old friends. But? Asimov — the man who created the Three Laws of Robotics, the first (albeit fictional) safety features in robots and computers — got seriously annoyed at Clarke: who wrote a film about an AI going mad and killing people …)Q5) The film is based on which of that writer’s short stories: “The Sentinel”, “The Nine Billion Names of God” or “Dog Star”?A5) “The Sentinel”. All three stories are in a short story collection called The Nine Billion Names of God. “The Nine Billion Names of God”, itself? Always stuck in my mind …Q6) The film starts on which planet: Venus, Earth, Mars or Tatooine?A6) Earth.Q7) Keir Dullea appeared in the film. As whom: Dave Bowman, HAL 9000 or Moonwatcher?A7) Dave Bowman.Q8) Gary Lockwood played Frank Poole in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He played Gary Mitchell in an episode of what: Star Trek, Dr Who or Lost In Space?A8) Star Trek.Q9) Douglas Rain voiced the ship’s computer. What was that computer called?A9) HAL 9000. (Clarke always maintained that HAL stood for Heuristic Algorithm: and wasn't a way of keeping ahead of IBM.)Q10) Finally … ? The one recurring object in the film is a black what: monolith, pyramid or orb?A10) Monolith. In the book, the one on the moon is known as TMA-1, or Tycho Magnetic Anomaly 1: it’s in the Tycho crater.
Here’s a thought …
“NATO is a collective security system: its independent member states agree to defend each other against attacks by third parties.”From the Wikipedia entry on NATO.
And a song …
The next ten question set will be on 9th April: it’s about Paul Robeson.
To avoid your answers being copied, they will be published tomorrow morning.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! See you later!
† Camera shy birds … ? That sounds about right, Olga … !
It sounds like Spartan be right up Danial Craig’s street: did you ever see Layer Cake … ?
‡ Ten out of ten, Irene: well done!
§ I can only leave you with a song, Debbi …

I think I saw Layer Cake a while back. I hope the technical issues you have get sorted, but it's always one step forward two back.
Tomorrow I have to cover a fair for the radio. I hope I'll have time to catch up with the teaser at some point, but if I don't make it, it will probably be because things got delayed and run longer than expected. (Trying to track people when they are coordinating things is always tricky). The weather forecast isn't great for tomorrow either, so no way of knowing how it will go.
