Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-5-2026 — World Fair Play Day

19th May, 2026: World Fair Play Day.

It’s officially official: I’ve gained weight … !

I’m … not surprised, somehow: lots of crisps, and a sneaky take-away on Saturday, probably didn’t help!

Granted, my weight’s up by only a small amount.

But, even so: it’s something to keep an eye on!

~≈⚖️≈~

I have to admit, I’m sorely tempted to design a t-shirt.

Or, at least, get one printed.

I’ve even got a couple of Paranoia themed designs in mind.

These:

They’ll probably get someone offended: we’ll have to see.

~≈👕≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Irene† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Irene scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        19th May is World Fair Play Day.   According to whom: the UN, the UK or the USA?

Q2)        It was formally defined in resolution A/RES/78/310: in which year of the 2020s?

Q3)        The day celebrates fair play in what: sport, music or trade?

Q4)        In the UK, if you behave in a way that’s seen as unfair, some will describe it with the phrase, “that’s not” … what?

Q5)        Finally … ?   If you describe getting an equal chance as getting a “fair go”, you’re where: Australia, Brazil or Coventry?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th May is International Museum Day.   The first such day was held in which year of the 1970s?
A1)        1977.

Q2)        The Day’s theme for 2026, is ‘Museums Uniting a Dividing …’ what?
A2)        Museums Uniting a Dividing World.

Q3)        The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology is England’s oldest public museum.   It’s in which British city?
A3)        Oxford.

Q4)        2, Willow Road, is an art museum in London.   The building, itself, was designed by an architect called what: Dr Julian No, Ernő Goldfinger or Hugo Drake?
A4)        Ernő Goldfinger.   (The Bond villain, Auric Goldfinger, is named after Ernő: the latter lived nest door to Ian Fleming.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Glamis Castle is a castle, and a museum.   It was the childhood home of which member of the Royal Family: King Charles 3rd, Elizabeth 2nd or Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother?
A5)        Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.   In addition, Princess Margaret, the sister of the late Elizabeth 2nd, was born there.   And, on top of that, there’s supposed to be a monster in residence.
Here’s a thought …
“Fair play fosters mutual respect among participants, teaching us to value and honour one another.”
From the sponsoring body’s entry on the day.
And a Soul II Soul song …

The next ten question sets will be on the 26th and 31st May, and on 3rd June: they’re about Miles Davis, Trinity Sunday and Liverpool football club.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was Ernő Goldfinger, Mum, not Hugo Drake!)

Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?

Fleming named Auric Goldfinger after Ernő, Debbi.   Apparently, Fleming named Hugo Drax after Admiral Reginald Drax, and named Blofeld after a friend from school.   Where he got ‘Doctor No’ from, I don’t know: but it was used as a nickname for Ian Paisley.   (As I recall, Debbi?   He choose the ornithologist’s name because it sounded bland … )
I can remember seeing Blackeyes, back in the day.   That was a very odd piece, if I recall.
