House of Cards — Series 1: Episode 1, 2 and 3.

You know, I’m something of a film fan.

You’d guessed that: the fact I’ve written a movie post for (almost) every night of the the years should be a clue.

At least, enough posts to fill a year’s worth of reading.

Or …

Yeah, you get my point.

You’ve possibly ALSO guessed I’ve written about TV, too.

Dr Who, mostly, but other stuff had caught my attention.

Humans on Channel Four has been one such.

With Penny Dreadful coming in behind: as a box-set, as I’m not a Sky subscriber.

Can I make a (very minor) confession, here?   At the time I bought the box-set of Penny Dreadful, I ALSO got hold of the first season of something else: that I’d not — until now — got the chance to watch.

Netflix’s reboot of House of Cards.

And … ?

Well …

The Daily Teaser — 3-9-2015: The Day We Entered The War …

*Contains upsetting images*

Oh, crikey …

I’ve got Radio 4 on: as per usual.

And, as it was playing, was going to tell you about how work went, yesterday: we had an inspection, and I came off rather well.

But one news item caught my ear.   It seems 12 Syrian refugees have drowned on the coast of Greece: apparently trying to get to Canada.

One was a little boy of three.

The little boy in the picture: who’d been with his family.   Apparently, his older brother, who was five, and his mother, also died.

His father survived.

I’m usually very cynical.

But that …

Well …

I can only offer my sympathies to the boy’s father.

A man trying his damnedest to get out of hell, and to somewhere safe …

Only to lose the most precious things he has.

That’s not how life should go …

Either way … ?   That photo should encourage European governments to help those fleeing Syria as a result of its Civil War: AND the actions os Islamic State.

But my other thought?

Is “Who is showing this photo to the likes of Islamic State, and others fighting in the region.”

I think photographic evidence of what the fighting is doing won’t — won’t — stop it.

I can only hope it will make someone think …

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 2-9-2015: Professor Tolkien.

Hmmm …

Interesting day at work …

Like other fast food joints, the one I work in gets inspected on a regular basis.

Either by the local council’s food hygiene people — we do well, from what I’m seen — and by the company’s own inspectors.

Who do so to make sure we’re meeting the company’s standards.

We had one of the latter, today: and passed.   And … ?

It has to be said, the company’s inspector was rather impressed with me,   I’m getting a good mention in his report, apparently.

Nice to know.   I can only hope it leads to a pay rise … !

The Daily Teaser — 2-9-2015

Hmmm …

You can tell I like a book at bedtime, can’t you?

Although without an accompanying cocoa.

I’d stain my sheets.

At ANY rate, I like a book, at bedtime.   With the current title … ?   Being Bruce Sterling and William Gibson’s The Difference Engine.

Which I have to admit, I’m struggling with.

Oh, that’s no reflection on Sterling and Gibson’s writing, I should add.

It’s just that — re-reading it for the second time, as I am — I’m finding it tougher going than I expected.

I may — may, I should add — have to put it on hold.

On the other hand?   I hate doing that: I know I’ll never get it finished, that way … !

The Daily Teaser — 1-9-2015

You know, I’ve had the TV on, in the background.

Or, at least, had it switched to radio.

And … ?

Well … according to the weather presenter the BBC news channel had on, before I switched to Radio 4, it’s “the start of autumn, on the meteorological calendar.”

Which is a good point to make.

A very point point to make.

But I can’t help but think is bloody obvious.

After all, I’ve had my heating on, in the morning, for a couple of days, now …
