Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-1-2017

*Yawns* …

It’s a Sunday morning.

And, of course, I’m back to work: due to start an eleven.

Why tell you this … ?

Well, I’m felling vaguely confessional, to be honest.

And frankly?

Wanted to let you know I’m tired.

Frankly?

Once I’m home, tonight … ?

I’m looking forward to getting an early night.

Well … that …

And a (metaphorical) lie in …

~≈Ç≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† put in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Die Afrikaans Patriot was first published on 15th January, 1876.   The paper was the first published in which language?
Q2) Princess Diana angered government ministers: on 15th January, 1997.   By calling for a ban on what?
Q3) Sarah Jane Moore was sentenced to life in prison: on 15th January, 1976.   For the attempted assassination of whom?
Q4) 15th January, 1967, saw what sporting event held for the first time … ?
Q5) Finally … The Pentagon was formally dedicated: on 15th January, 1943.   The building is the HQ of which US government department?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Kripalu Maharaj was named as Jagadguru — or World Teacher — on 14th January, 1957.   This means he was a big figure: in which religion?
A1) Hinduism.
Q2) 14th January, 2002, saw the UK declared free of what?
A2) Foot and Mouth disease.   (It’s also called Hoof and Mouth, in the US.)
Q3) The Huygens probe landed on Titan: on 14th January, 2005.   Titan is a moon of where?
A3) Saturn.
Q4) More to the point … which agency operated the probe?
A4) The European Space Agency: also called the ESA.
Q5) 14th January, 83 BC, saw the birth of Marcus Antonius: also called Marc Anthony.   Famously married, he had an affair with which Egyptian queen?
A5) Cleopatra.   Or Cleopatra VII Philopator, if you’re going To get like that.   (He then proceeded to lose the Roman Civil War: to the man we remembered as Augustus.)
Q6) Finally … Aloha From Hawaii was broadcast: on 14th January, 1973.   Who was the star of the show?
A6) Elvis Presley.   It wasn’t broadcast in the US, until April.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“There will only ever be 13 dwarves in The Hobbit - and I was one of them. If I had my time again, would I do it? Yeah, I would.”
James Nesbitt, born 15 January 1965.
And, as it’s Dr Martin Luther King’s birthday …

Have a good day.

*        Oh, I know what you mean, Olga!   The amount of people we get calling in, who take the reference number down on their phone’s note taking text … ?    Well … isn’t that surprising!   At any rate, the teapot’s on the way: as is an adjustable wrench.   (Half the reason the washing machine keeps flooding?   Loose pipes … )

†        Oh, TELL me about it, Debbi!   There’s a Discworld group I belong to, on Facebook: and people have been complaining about the piles of books they’ve building up.   Well, they’re complaining about their piles … or trying to show them off.   (‘Complaining about their piles’ … ?   OK, bad choice of phrase … …)

Q1) Afrikaans
Q2) Landmines
Q3) Gerald Ford
Q4) Super Bowl
Q5) United States Department of Defense (Once, quite a few years back, whilst I was studying a year abroad at Mount Holyoke College, I went to Washington DC over Xmas break. I was assaulted outside of Arlington Cemetery on Xmas Day, and ended up at Pentagon City Hospital. Thankfully the park police came to the rescue and it was nothing serious, although I had two black eyes for a few days… Police and people at the hospital were very nice, but…)
I have one of these wrenches too...Although as I'm unlikely to use it as I am to use the teapots. When my Dad was alive he liked to potter around the house sorting small things out, so I would save little tasks that were not urgent for him. Now I have a lot of tools and very few I know what to do with...
