Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2017

Hmmm …

I think that’s something I’m going to have to ask about, at the next staff briefing.

I’m working at a call centre in Chelmsford: that specialises in handling call for social landlords: arranging the various out-of-hours, emergency repairs.

We also field calls for the Greater London Authority.

Usually we get members of the public phoning in: wanting to know what the Mayor’s doing about littering in Hammersmith, for example.   We also get members of the press phoning: wanting statements from from the Mayor, or the Assembly, about whatever subject happens to be newsworthy.

The former, we ask to phone back in the morning.   The reporters get their details taken: and passed on to the on-call member of the GLA press team.

Last night, I got an unusual one: a call from the Ministry of Employment, wanting to set up a phone call with the Mayor.

Not something I’ve handled, before, until last night.

And one I had to improvise about.   Basically, by getting the chap to phone back in the morning.

I think, though, I want to raise it at the next staff briefing.

I think that sort of call will be rare.   But might well be something we need to have a process for.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 26th January is Australia Day: the country’s national day.   It marks the day when the first fleet arrived where: Botany Bay, Port Jackson or Sydney Cove?
Q2) Today is also Republic Day, in India.   It marks the day when India’s constitution when into force: in which year of the 1950s?
Q3) 26th January is ALSO the Feast Day of the Blessed Gabriele Allegra.   The Franciscan was the man who first made a complete translation of the Bible into what: Arabic, Chinese or Spanish?
Q4) President Bill Clinton claimed not to have had sex with someone: on 26th January, 1998.   Who?
Q5) Finally … 26th January, 2016, saw the death of actor, Abe Vigoda.   In which film did he play Salvatore Tassio?   (We’re after the main film: not any of the sequels.)
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 25th January, 1879, saw the founding of which country’s national bank: Albania’s, Bulgaria’s or Croatia’s?
Q2) Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. filed a patent on 25th January, 1947: for a Cathode Ray tube entertainment device.   In other words, the first what: crossword puzzle, video game or jukebox?

A4) Angola.
Q5) Finally … the very first Winter Olympics started: on 25th January of which year of the 1920s?
A5) 1924.
Here’s a thought …

“Procrastinate now, don’t put it off.”
Ellen DeGeneres, born 26th January, 1958.

And a tune …

Have a good day …

*        Blimey, there’s a coincidence, Debbi.   I’ve got the Today programme on in the background: John Humphries is discussing video games: and they just mentioned Sherlock as I was starting to reply!

Q1) Port Jackson
Q2) 1950
Q3) Chinese
Q4) Monica Lewinsky
Q5) The Godfather
How bizarre! I would have expected them to have a direct number. Perhaps with so much reshuffling, nobody knows anything anymore...
I should be on my way to the UK tomorrow, so might take me a while to get everything going there and catch up. Stay well!
