Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2025 — Saint Lucifer

20th May, 2025: Saint Lucifer.

It’s official: it’s Tuesday.

And I’ve had a short dream.

No: not one as significant as Martin Luther King’s.

No.

I had a dream … about getting chased up and down the garden by a scary Jack Russell.

Quite what the dream — or Image Playground’s attempt to draw it — means?

I don’t know.

~≈🐶≈~

The US President is hoping for peace in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

At least he is … after a two hour phone call with President Putin.

I’m reminded of Neville Chamberlain: the UK Prime Minister who — in the run-up to World War Two — tried appeasing Hitler’s Nazi regime.

Which didn’t exactly work.

Frankly?

And knowing there’s a historical example?

I think the US President is on a hiding to nothing …

~≈🇺🇦≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Luciferian set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        20th May is the feast day of Saint Lucifer of Cagliari.   Where is Cagliari: Sardinia, Corsica or Crete?

Q2)        Technically, Lucifer was Cagliari’s what: priest, vicar or bishop?

Q3)        ‘Lucifer’ is also a traditional name for whom: God, Jesus or the Devil?

Q4)        Lucifer crustaceans are a family of what: prawns or crabs?

Q5)        Finally … ?   ‘Lucifers’ were a type of what: matches, electric torches or light switches?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th May saw England named as a Commonwealth.   19th May of which year: 1649, 1651 or 1653?

A1)        1649.

Q2)        The relevant Act of Parliament was enacted by the English parliament then known as what: the Rump Parliament, Sirloin Parliament or Brisket Parliament?
A2)        The Rump Parliament.
Q3)        The Commonwealth saw the execution of the former king of England.   Who was that king?   (There were a few with the same name: so we want name and number.)
A3)        Charles 1st.

Q4)        From 1653, the Commonwealth was led by Oliver Cromwell.   In other words, by the Lord … what?
A4)        The Lord Protector.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Commonwealth was a what: republic, or monarchy?
A5)        Republic.
Here’s a thought …
“Lucifer first appears in history as an envoy from Pope Liberius to the Emperor Constantius II, requesting the convening of a church council.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the saint.
A Bob Seger song …

And the current playlist …

The next ten question set will be on 28th May: it’s about the Old Firm!

Comments and answers will be published tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeast, that shirt seems popular, Olga … !   :D   (There’s an online, print-your-own-t-shirt company called Printerval doing the rounds.   Not that I’m suggesting anything, obviously … !)

        Hello, Mum … !

‡        Funny you should mention that shirt, Debbi … !   (Printerval, the company that did my Ron says Buggrit t-shirts?   And doing some Atic Atac shirts for me?   Have a US branch … *wears innocent impression* … )

Thanks for the suggestion. I am inundated by T-shirts at the moment. The radio station makes a new one every year for the Festa Major (the annual neighbourhood festival), and sometimes they give us two if we're helping out, so I have quite a few over the years. I usually go to the Festa del Fitness, a fitness event the town hall organises yearly, and they give us a free T-shirt, and sometimes they've given me T-shirts at some of the events I've attended with the radio. And, of course, on Saturday they were selling some old T-shirts at the radio stall as well (for only 2€), and they usually only have children's sizes, but I found one I'd been after for a while on a size that fitted me, so I acquired another one. I also inherited some of my Dad's ones, so... Well, I guess as I dispose of those, I might look into some new ones, but many of the organisations and associations also make their own around here so... It might be a while!
The bird turned up twice already this morning, but we didn't see it yesterday evening. We shall see.
