Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th May 2025.

7th May, 2025.

Yay!

It’s officially Wednesday.

And … ?

I have to confess, I’ve been watching the second series of Star Wars spin off series, Andor.

And?

The opening six episodes have been rather good: and include three written by Beau Willimon, show runner of the US version of House of Cards.

I know science fiction isn’t for everyone … but a wartime drama?

With murky political undertones, paranoia you can cut with a knife, and lots of explosions?

Might just be up your street …

~≈💣≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s five question set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        7th May is the feast day of Saint Agathius of Byzantium.   He’s a patron saint of whom: soldiers, sailors or spies?

Q2)        More to the point, Byzantium is now known as which city?

Q3)        7th May is Defender of the Fatherland Day.   Where: Estonia, Georgia or Kazakhstan?

Q4)        The RMS Lusitania was sunk on 7th May, 1915.   During which World War?

Q5)        Finally … ?   World War Two partially ended: on 7th May, 1945.   When which country surrendered: Germany, Italy or Japan?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The original iMac was unveiled on 6th May, 1998.   By which computer company?
A1)        Apple.

Q2)        The iMac was what’s know as a what: all-in-one, laptop or tablet?
A2)        An all-in-one.   (The logic-board, RAM, hard-drive and graphics card are built into the monitor, rather than a separate case.)

Q3)        The machine was introduced by the company’s then chief executive officer.   Who was that chief executive officer: Gil Amelio, Steve Jobs or Tim Cook?
A3)        Steve Jobs.   (From the little I know, the equivalent UK term to CEO, is ‘managing director’.   A version of the original presentation can be found, here.)

Q4)        That original iMac was only available in Bondi blue.   The colour was supposed to have been named after a beach in which country?
A4)        Australia.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The original iMacs caused a scandal, as they lacked what: floppy drives, CD drives or monitors?
A5)        Floppy drive.   (The CD drive was replaced by a DVD drive in later models.   Recent model Macs work with external, USB-connected, floppy drives, if needed: and with external optical drives.)
Here’s a thought …
“The lie was dead
And damned, and truth stood up instead.”
.From Count Gismond by Robert Browning, 7 May 1812 – 12 December 1889.
A David Tomlinson song …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set will be on 15th May: it’s about Mike Oldfield.

Your answers will be published tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum … !

        Hang on, Olga … there’s a Henry 8th musical … with cosplayers … ?   Good lord!
Saying that … ?   The cosplayers must have looked magnificent: the ones on YouTube put in a huge effort.   (The ones who go to conventions as Mandalorians look impressive: but the Daleks are something else!)

‡        Yeah I think I’ve seen that crop up, Debbi: it was The Curse of The Billy Goat¶, wasn’t it?   Apparently, Merkle’s Boner’s a baseball thing, as well.   I don’t want to ask!

¶        Is it just me, Debbi, or does The Curse of The Billy Goat sound like a bad Sam Spade novel?

I guess it's very popular all over. I saw a convention of Lord of the Rings related stuff (I think) once as I was wandering around Barcelona. I noticed a queue of people dressed up going inside the building of the University. As the building is quite old looking, it somewhat fitted quite nicely, but it was surprising. And the queue was loooooong.
I've always been curious about the sing-along versions of some movies they show in the cinema (Little Shop of Horrors or the Rocky Horror Picture Show) as people go dressed up as characters and seem to have plenty of fun....
