Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-6-2025: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Ten questions.)

11th June, 2025: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Right … it’s now Wednesday!

And the fact Wednesdays used to be called Hump Day on Twitter?

Is possibly irrelevant … !

The fact today’s themed question set is about the film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, probably is.

I can still remember seeing for the first time: on an extremely dodgy VHS that fell off the back of a van.

I may just have to rewatch it, at some point.

The quality of that copy definitely left me wondering what all the fuss was about …

~≈👽≈~

The US president’s actions in sending in the Marines to LA, and authorising the use of rubber bullets leaving me with an earworm … I’m also aware there’s trouble at the proverbial mill.

Or, at least, trouble in Northern Ireland.

There’s riots happening in Ballymena: baton rounds are being fired at rioters using fireworks, cobbles and petrol bombs*.

After what we’re told is an alleged sexual assault.

Growing up in the 1970s and ’80s?

This sort of thing always reminds me of the Troubles.

~≈💣≈~

Did you ever see a show called The Prisoner: an 1960s series about a spy who resigns his high security job, only to find himself trapped in a mysterious village from which there’s no escape … ?

To this day, it’s still worth watching, I think.

It turns out Inverlair Lodge, one of the places that inspired the series, is now up for sale.

Has anyone got £1, 300, 000 … ?

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡, Irene§ and Debbi¶ putting in their answers: with Olga, Irene and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed ten question set, shall we?

Here it is, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial saw its US release on 11th June.   11th June of which year of the 1980s?

Q2)        Who directed E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: George Lucas, Roger Corman or Steven Spielberg?

Q3)        The little boy who befriends E. T. is called Elliott.   Who played Elliott?

Q4)        Who played Gertie, his baby sister: Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu or Drew Barrymore?

Q5)        The E. T. model — the animatronic creature, itself — was designed by which special effects man: Carlo Rimbaldi, Stan Winston or Screaming Mad George?

Q6)        Pat Welsh isn’t in the film’s credits.   But provides E. T.’s what: eyes, voice or movements?

Q7)        The film’s score was composed by whom: Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer or John Williams?

Q8)        According to Wikipedia, the film spent how many weekends at number one in the relevant charts: fourteen, fifteen or sixteen?

Q9)        Which studio released the film: Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers or Disney?

Q10)        Finally … ?   And according to Wikiquote?   What’s E. T.’s last line?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        10th June, 1922, saw the birth of Frances Ethel Gumm.   She was better known as which Hollywood star?
A1)        Judy Garland.

Q2)        She played Dorothy Gale.   In which 1939 film: The Wizard of Oz, Young Mr Lincoln or Zenopia?
A2)        The Wizard of Oz.

Q3)        Her daughters were Lorna Luft and Liza Minelli.   What’s the name of her only son: Joey, Jedekiah or James?
A3)        Joey: or Joey Luft, if you want to be precise.

Q4)        Frances had a hit with the song, “Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis”.   “Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis” came from film?
A4)        Funnily enough … ?   Meet Me in St. Louis.

Q5)        Finally … ?   She died in London: in which year of the 1960s?
A5)        1969.
Here’s a thought …

“E. T. Phone Home.”
E. T.’s best known quote.

A theme tune …

And a joke:

“Why didn’t they make an E. T. sequel?   Because the director saw the phone bill!”

The next ten question set is on 26th June: it’s about Harry Potter.

Comments and answers will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Something I’ve learnt, over the years?   From the early coverage of the Ukraine War?   Is that adding broken-up polystyrene to the petrol in a petrol bomb helps spread the fuel, flames and damage.
That’s helpful … if you’re the person throwing the thing …

He might just have a point, there, Olga: the news can be a bit triggering, can’t it … ?
If I recall correctly?   The producer of I, Claudius told the cast exactly that: pretend you’re playing mafiosi, that’ll make the job a lot easier!

‡        Hello, Mum!   (Do you remember Dad getting that dodgy copy of ET?   We were living at Warley Mount, at the time, and we’d just rented a video machine.)

§        It went well enough, Irene: I’m in the proverbial clear!

She missed it, Debbi.   But funnily, Sly and the Family Stone were there.
Oh … have you got £1.3 million going spare?   Inverlair Lodge is on sale …

Wasn't it shot in Portmeirion? I always meant to go to visit it but haven't yet, although I've bought some of their pottery...

Will they accept a partial payment as a deposit? :)

I love the way that's worded. A place for "troublesome agents". :)

Now, all I can think about is that woman in the Prisoner's dream, running around and telling him "They're trying to kill me!" Over and over.

"Haven't they killed you yet?"

"Sorry. Must be thinking of someone else."

Great lines!
