Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-6-2025 — Friday the 13th.

13th June, 2025: Friday the 13th.

Hmmm …

It’s not often I wake up on a Friday, and find out there’s bombs dropping.

Thankfully!

Except, this morning … ?

I’ve woken up to find Israel is bombing Iran.

In order, the Israelis have said, to prevent Iran building a nuclear bomb.

I’m …

I’m very aware that the US has pulled staff out of Iran, and wonder this:
  • How much did the US president know in advance about this?
  • Has he given his endorsement to Israel’s actions?
  • How is Iran going to respond?
And, as I write?

Drones are going off in Jordan: on the borders of Iran, from what I’ve understood.

Things look hairy, right now.

~≈🤯≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s unlucky question set, shall we?

Here it is, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th June, 2025 is a Friday: and therefore considered unlucky. Where: the western world, the third world or the planet Jupiter?

Q2)        The most recent Friday the 13th movie was released in which year: 2007, 2008 or 2009?

Q3)        The Friday 13th mini-crash was a stock market crash in the US: in which year of the 1980s?

Q4)        The T. W. Lawson novel, Friday, the Thirteenth was published in which year: 1905, 1907 or 1909?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Friday 13th EP was released in 1981.   By whom: the Damned, the Sex Pistols or the Ruts?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        12th June is Independence Day in the Philippines.   It marks the country’s independence from where: Spain, Portugal or France?
A1)        Spain.

Q2)        The country consists of roughly 7600 what?
A2)        Islands.

Q3)        The country is the Fifth Philippine what: republic, monarchy or theocracy?
A3)        Republic.

Q4)        What’s the country’s currency: the peso, Pedro or pobble?
A4)        The Philippine Peso.

Q5)        Finally … ?   There are two official Filipino languages.   Name one of them.
A5)        Filippino or English.

Here’s an observation …
“Friday the 13th, [is a] date that signifies bad luck in many Western cultures. The superstition is akin to the beliefs that crossing paths with a black cat, walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella indoors, or breaking a mirror bring bad luck.”
From the Britannica entry on the day.
And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 26th June: it’s about Harry Potter.

Comments and answers will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Well … I did manage to watch a movie, Olga§: the special edition version of Aliens.   It’s possibly one of the few times a sequel has been as good as the original.   The only problem is it’s quite a bit longer than the original version … !
I’m going to have to sit in with Pink Matters, I really am!
(You watch, you’ll bump into Angel and Sheila when you’re both in Paris … or New York … or London … )

‡        Your thumb’s twiddling, Debbi¶?   Your hand is OK … ?
There was another story doing the rounds: one I think I’ve already mentioned.   Apparently, when Hess defected, ’6 — or whoever was doing his interrogation — thought “He’s an occultist, isn’t he?   Let’s get a scary wizard to make him talk.”   They got Alistair Crowley, the self proclaimed “World’s Wickedest Man.”
Once Crowley left the meeting with Hess, Hess blabbed.   Supposedly …

§        As I recall, Olga?   I first watched Aliens with friends.   The Paul Reiser character, Carter Burke, got a round of applause when he was killed by an alien: the character was the slimiest villain we’d seen in years!

¶        The story’s been around for a while, Debbi: the Special Operations Executive had a tame astrologer on the payroll.   Specifically to send dubious horoscopes to the Germans.   Well … more dubious than usual horoscopes …

Q1) The Western world (although here, it is Tuesday the 13th. Perhaps not all of the Western world, or perhaps we aren’t in the Western world).

Q2) 2009

Q3) 1989

Q4) 1907

Q5) the Damned

You're probably right about meeting my cousins in some unlikely place. It wouldn't be the first time I meet people by surprise somewhere far away from where we both live.
Yes, the news are less than reassuring. There is quite the government crisis going on here, in Spain, with Pedro Sánchez, the PM, appearing on TV yesterday to apologise for "missing" some cases of corruption from people very close to him. Considering that both, his wife and his brother are also under investigation, it is all starting to look... Well, you know what I mean. Although it is also true that judges can be very sectarian as well... A bad combination altogether.
Ah, tomorrow I'll be helping out at one of the fairs the radio participates in, and it is a full day event, so I don't think I'll have time to participate or visit the teaser tomorrow. Just in case I don't appear. I'll be busy (and hot, probably, as we'll be in the street), but otherwise OK, hopefully.
On Sunday there is one of the monthly walks I usually join, but I should be able to visit the teaser, even if it is a bit later than usual...

Oh, yes. My left hand.

I can move my fingers. But a few are still twisting in unnatural directions. Ouch.
