Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-11-2025 — The Armistice

11th November, 2025: the Armistice.

Right … I’m officially indoors all morning.

Yes: you’re right.

It’s the laughing, happy time of year, when my landlords sent around a man: to do my gas safety check!

Ho … hum … !

~≈♨️≈~

Did I mention I caught Wizards, the other night?

I caught the Ralph Bakshi directed film, Wizards, the other night.

And … ?

Well, I think my written, and video, reviews could something things up better than I could, right now.

I know this, though: it was nice getting comments, so quickly.

~≈🧙🏽≈~

Oh, I’ve just had a quick look at the Essex news section of the BBC’s news site.

Apparently?

A team lead by a University of Essex researcher has discovered what the team refers to as a ‘carnivorous death ball’ in the Antarctic Ocean.

Which is nice: possibly.

But … ?

I can’t help but think ‘carnivorous death ball’ sounds like a cheesy heavy metal band …

~≈🎸≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ and putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        11th November, 1918, saw the signing of the Armistice that ended what: World War One, World War Two or the Falklands War?

Q2)        It was signed by both the Allies, and the last aggressor standing.   Who was that Aggressor: Germany, the Ottoman Empire or Austria-Hungary?

Q3)        The Armistice was signed by representatives from the two allied nations.   France: and who else?

Q4)        The Armistice was signed in a what: jeep, railway carriage or lorry?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The UK generally mark the Armistice on the second Sunday of November.   That was on which date in 2025: the 9th, 10th or 11th of November?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Richard Burton was born on 10th November, 1925.   In which country of the UK: England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland?
A1)        Wales.

Q2)        What was Burton’s birth name: Richard Jenkins, Richard Jones or Richard Davies?
A2)        Richard Jenkins.

Q3)        Burton served with which of the UK’s armed services: the Royal Navy, the Army or the Royal Airforce?
A3)        The Royal Airforce, or RAF.

Q4)        His first film was The Last Days of Dolwyn.   The film was released in which year of the 1940s?
A4)        1949.   (He played a character called Gareth.)

Q5)        1954 saw Burton perform in a BBC Radio production of Under Milk Wood.   Who wrote Under Milk Wood: Thomas Charles, Dylan Thomas or Huw Dixon?
A5)        Dylan Thomas.

Q6)        1963’s Cleopatra saw Burton play Mark Anthony.   Who played Cleopatra in Cleopatra?
A6)        The woman he married twice: Elizabeth Taylor.   (Damn: the name of the film always gives me an earworm!)

Q7)        More to the point, who played Octavian, in Cleopatra?
A7)        Roddy McDowall.   (I’ve got vague memories of seeing the film: and being struck by quite how menacing McDowel’s version of Augustus, was.)

Q8)        Burton played Alex Leamas in The Spy Who Came In from the Cold.   Who wrote the novel the film is based on: Frederick Forsyth, Ian Fleming or John le Carré?
A8)        John le Carré.

Q9)        His last TV appearance was in a 1984 series called Ellis Island.   For many years, the island of the title processed what: immigrants to the US, imported food or oil?
A9)        Immigrants to the US.

Q10)        Finally … ?   Burton’s last film, Nineteen-Eighty-Four, was released after his death.   In other words, it was released in which year?
A10)        1984.   (It’s one hell of a film!)
Here’s a thought …
“Also known as the Armistice of Compiègne from the town near the place where it was officially agreed to at 5:00 a.m. by the Allied Supreme Commander, French Marshal Ferdinand Foch, it came into force at 11:00 a.m. Central European Time on 11 November 1918”.
From the Wikipedia entry on the Armistice.
And the Last Post …

The next ten question set is on 5th December: it’s about The Great Smog!

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided, when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (The film was released in 1984, Mum, not 1986: they made a big thing of that, if I recall …)

Well … I’ve replaced the batteries, Olga: mind you, I’ve had to use the cheap ones I got, the other month.   How long they’ll last, I don’t know!
The weight management class went well: I’m down eight hundred grams.   The wholemeal bread’s helping …

        It’s worth thinking about, Debbi!
Oh, the bluray versions of the first two series are on Amazon, Debbi: just in case that grabs you.   (If you suddenly thought of ripping stuff?   Only you’d need this drive§, in order to rip 4k blurays with MakeMKV.   You can use any decent bluray drive if you’re just ripping 2k blurays.)

§        Strictly speaking, Debbi, you’d need a drive that’s marketed as ‘Libre friendly’, or ‘libre enabled’, for an optical drive to work on a 4k disc …

Well done on the weight front! And, at least you didn't miss the gas checkup. It would have been worse if it had been the other way round.
I'm sure I've mentioned a couple who went to the theatre the day before they were meant to go, and the people at the door didn't notice the wrong date, so they came in and were trying to tell us we were wrong... Oh, well!
