The Daily Teaser …

Remind me to NOT go anywhere near FarmVille, at this time of the morning, especially when I’ve another interview to go to!

It’s just taken me near enough an hour to plant some cranberries!

Oy!

At any rate, you can probably tell two things.

A) I’m nervous: even though Allison, bless her, has said — in her own special way — that she think’s I’ll do well with this one.

And B) This posts going to be done on the quick!

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor and Jason* going head to head, with Trevor getting his answers in first: but both getting 6 out of 6!

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 15th April, 1942, saw who awarded the George Cross for Bravery?

Q2) 15th April, 1989, saw at least 93 people killed in Britain’s worst sporting disaster: in which football stadium did his take place?

Q3) Name either of the two teams who were playing, that day.

Q4) 15th April, 1945, saw British troops liberate which notorious prison camp?

Q5) 15th April, 2001, saw the death of singer/songwriter, Jeffrey Ross Hyman: how was he better known?

Q6) More to the point, what was his band’s biggest UK hit?

Q7) And finally … April 15th, 1993, saw the death of author Leslie Charteris: which fictional character was his most famous creation?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 14th April, 2003, saw the completion of which scientific project?
A1) The Human Genome Project.

Q2) 14th April, 1629, saw the birth of which Dutch astronomer, mathematician and horologist?
A2) Christiaan Huygens.

Q3) 236 years later, 14th April, 1865, saw the death — by assassins bullet — of which US president?
A3) Abraham Lincoln.

Q4) 14th April, 1978, saw the birth of South African born, Australian actor, Paul O’Brien: in which Australian soap did he play Constable Jack Holden?
A4) Home and Away.

Q5) 14th April, 1985, saw the death of actress Noële Gordon: what was the name of her character in Crossroads?
A5) Meg Richardson. (Or Mortimer: that was her character’s married surname.)

Q6) And finally … 14th April, 1956, saw the first public demonstration of what: videotape, digital television, or broadband??
A6) Videotape.

Enjoy those, everyone. I’m gonna get me suit on …

* Actually, big round of applause to Jason, there, he’s the Teaser’s first Australian contestant. Welcome along!

First of all, good luck today from the drone and better half, and now -

Q1) "the island fortress of Malta – its people and defenders"
Q2) Hillsborough
Q3) Liverpool and Nottingham Forest
Q4) Bergen-Belsen
Q5) Joey Ramone
Q6) "Baby I Love You" - (Pedants like me might argue that this was just Joey Ramone and Phil Spector, not the band)
Q7) The Saint (and his partner, Greavesie)

"Washing in Belsen was a big problem. Because the washing possibilities were outside. You can imagine what it was like in the winter. You were already hungry. You were half-dead. But we knew that, the moment you didn't wash every day, it was the beginning of the end. So we used to wash each other and bully each other: "Come on". We saw so many dead people that we didn't even notice them, especially in Belsen. Heaps and heaps of corpses stacked up. There was no way of burying them, getting rid of them. People died so fast and in such enormous quantities, we didn't even notice it. I think a way of survival is also just to let the shutters down and not see things. I mean, lots of people went mad, you know. How can you possibly survive this? You must be terribly tough or insensitive to actually survive." - Anita Lasker-Walfisch, a survivor of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen
