The Daily Teaser — 25-10-2015

You know, I THINK I’ve got a question.

No, really … !

What the hell is the thing with the clock about?

As you know, many counties will put the clock back an hour in autumn, and ahead one hour in spring.

We have, overnight, gone back an hour.

And … ?

Well, I’ve got the day off: so I’m happy.   The extra hour’s sleep’s always appreciated.

Especially given I finished at half twelve, last night.

Still … ?

I could never see the sense of it: even though I know the reasons …

~≈Ç≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?   After all, I’m expecting my nephew, at some point …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How Tolicense and video …

Q1) 25th October, 1828, saw the formal opening of Saint Katherine Docks: in London.   Were the docks on the north or south bank of the Thames?
Q2) The docks were on the site of a former what: monastery, hospital or palace?
Q3) 25th October, 1983, saw soldiers from the USA invade where: Grenada, Granada or Granville?
Q4) The ninth African nation to gain independence from the UK did so on 25th October, 1964.   What is that country called?
Q5) 25th October is the feast day of Saints Crispin and Crispinian‡.   The brothers are the patron saints of whom: bee-keepers, cobblers or bowyers?
Q6) Finally … 25th October is the Day of the Basque Country.   The Basque live in parts of Spain: and where else?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 24th October, 1998, saw NASA launch the Deep Space 1 probe.   The craft was heading for what: a comet, an asteroid or Mars?
A1) An Asteroid.   (9969 Braille, to be precise.)

Q3) Arsenal’s 49 game unbeaten record came to an end: on 24th October, 2004.   Who beat them?
Q4) 24th October, 51 AD, saw the birth of Emperor Domitian.   Domitian was the last Roman Emperor from which dynasty: the Julio-Claudians, the Antonines or the Flavians?
A4) The Flavians.
Q5) Finally … 24th October, 1966, saw the birth of Russian investor and businessman, Roman Abramovich.   Which Premiership side does he own?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“It seems there is no fruit to be drawn from the solution we offer.”

Évariste Galois, 25 October 1811 – 31 May 1832.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day.

Make use of that extra hour’s sleep … !

*        Very true … !   At ANY rate … ?   Have you caught last night’s Dr Who?   I’ll be posting up the write-up, later, but I tell you one thing … ?   Maisie William’s was amazing … !

†        I think she’s OK, Olga: although it’s a bit of a worry.   I DID make sure I flagged it up for her: just to be on the safe side.   The big worry … ?   Is quite how fast the scammers have moved … !

‡        Today is — as Radio Four keeps telling me — the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt.   We can officially go into Kenneth Branagh mode …

It’s only when you see that, that you realise QUITE how much ripping-off Hollywood happily does …
