The Daily Teaser — 3-10-2015

Ooooo … By HECK …

I need a caffeine fix, after a night like that … !

You’ve possibly worked out I work in a local restaurant, haven’t you … ?

I do.

And, usually, the shift pattern’s fairly fair: alternating weeks with looks of days, to weeks with lots of nights.

I finished at 22.30, last night: and, LORDY, it took a while to get to sleep.

This morning … ?   I think this morning’s going to involve quite a lot of strong tea.   And possibly a tune …

Just to get into some form of gear … !

~≈†≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) Iraq gained its independence from the UK: on 3rd October, 1932.   What’s the capital city of Iraq?
Q2) Staedtler Mars was founded on the 3rd October, 1835.   The company is the largest manufacturer of what, in Europe: footballs, pencils or shoes?
Q3) 3rd October, 1952, was the date of Operation Hurricane: when the UK tested a what?
Q4) World War 2 era tea rationing ended in Britain: on the 3rd October, 1952.   What’s the world’s biggest producer of tea: China, India or Kenya?
Q5) More to the point, which UK tea brand was the first to introduce teabags: PG Tips, Tetley or Twinnings?

I’ll leave you with this thought …
“A narcissist is someone better looking than you are.”
From Julian by Gore Vidal, 3 October 1925–31 July 2012.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        That’s hell of a thing to have to do, Olga‡: leaving the computer on overnight, like that … !   At ANY rate … ?   I’m told Spybot’s the handy piece of software to get hold of: the basic version’s free, and the full version seems quite reasonably priced.   I’m ALSO going to seriously suggest getting a Mac.   Most computer viruses out there are aimed at the Windows platform, and won’t affect the Mac operating system.   (You have to be careful, what you open: as there’s a few out there.   But generally speaking, that’s ALL you have to do: be careful, rather be careful AND invest in security software with yearly subscriptions.)

†        Well, it was more aimed at families, rather than just the kids, Debbi^: but yes, children were the main target, originally.   I know, these days, it’s more gruesome that it was: Jude thinks it’s scary, to give you an example.   But it’s a broad church, I think: there’s something for everyone.   (It’s a bit like Buffy: The Vampire Slayer: plenty of room for plenty of stories.)   Either way, it looks interesting …

‡        Yes, I know they’re comparatively expensive, Olga: but, as a self-employed writer, you should qualify for the business discount Apple offer.

^        I do know some of the gun-crime figures the media are showing here, Debbi, are … concerning, let’s put it that way … !

Thanks. The funny thing is that the virus was identified by the program I have but by the time it was cleaned it was a bit late. Trying to promote books means spending a lot of time on line (most of the day, unfortunately) and reciprocating means visiting sites, although I try to be careful and don't go anywhere that looks suspicious. I've been attending webinars and on-line conferences more of recent. I wonder if some of the sites might be the problem.
I've wondered about Apple but only tried one once years back and I didn't understand it at all. And yes, they are terribly expensive. Perhaps if I ever make any money with my books...
