The Daily Teaser — 20-1-2016

Right, here we go …

I’m back to work, today.

After a couple of days off that went rather well.

At least, as far as I’m concerned.

The staff christmas do on Monday: which was fun.

And I managed to catch Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD, last night.

Nice to get some of the history behind the comic that was and is the modern equivalent of The Eagle: and see the face of Brian Bolland, one of my favourite artist on the title.

Future Shock! is quite something to catch!

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi* putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six, AND managing in to catch the mistake I’d made with the question about Training Day.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) Who was sworn in, as US President: on 20th January, 1961?
Q2) What was first occupied by the British, on 20th January, 1841: the Falklands, Hong Kong Island or Greenland?
Q3) Iran freed 52 hostages: on 20th January, 1981.   The release took place some twenty minutes after who was named inaugurated as US President?
Q4) Terry Waite was taken hostage, on 20th January, 1987: whilst in which country?
Q5) Finally … who acceded the throne of the UK: on 20th January, 1936?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 19th January, 1920, saw the US Senate vote against joining what: the United Nations, the League of Nations or the European Economic Community?
A1) The League of Nations.
Q2) NASA launched the New Horizons probe: on 19th January, 2006.   Which planet was it heading for?
A2) Pluto.
Q3) More to the point, in which year did the probe GET to its destination?
A3) 2015.
Q4) 19th January, 1983, saw the arrest of Nazi war criminal, Klaus Barbie: in Bolivia.   Barbie had been known as the ‘Butcher of ’ … where?
A4) Lyon.
Q5) 19th January, 1966, saw the birth of director, Antoine Fuqua.   Which of his films stars DENZEL WASHINGTON, Will Smith and Ethan Hawke, as a pair of LA drug cops?
A5) Training Day.
Q6) Finally … File sharing site, Megaupload, was closed down by the FBI: on 19th January, 2012.   Where was Megaupload based: Taiwan, Hong Kong or Singapore?
A6) Hong Kong.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The most important influence in my childhood was my father.”
DeForest Kelley, January 20, 1920 – June 11, 1999.
And this tune …

Have a good Wednesday!

*        Olga†, Debbi‡, sorry about Training Day!   That’s what happens when you get someone writing question sets WAY too late in the evening!

†        Yes, it’s NOW a dwarf planet, Olga: but it was only reclassified some six months after New Horizons was launched.   (Oh, I know what you mean about bowling: I’m the same with Pool … !)

‡        Amazes me how rapid the pace of change is, Debbi.   And yet … companies’ Are still making money off the back of the ZX Spectrum, the first computer I owned …
