Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-8-2017

That’s a bugger!

Or, at least, that’s an almost nasty bugger.

I got home, last night.

Cooked myself something to eat.

Chicken kiev, if you’re wanting to know: a cheap one by Birdseye.

And … ?

Sat down happily eat dinner, got myself an early night, not long afterwards.

Getting up this morning … to find I’d not actually turned off my oven, last night …

There’s — thankfully — no damaged done: beyond to my electricity bill and dignity.

But, boy … I’m going to have to keep an eye open for that!

~≈®≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

After checking we’ve switched everything off.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five!

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 28th August, 1913, saw Queen Wilhelmina open the Peace Palace.   In which Dutch city: Rotterdam, Amsterdam or The Hague?
Q2) 28th August, 1189, saw crusaders begin besieging Acre.   Acre is now in which Middle eastern country?
Q3) 28th August, 1916, saw the birth of writer, Jack Vance.   He wrote science fiction under his own name.   And wrote three mystery novels as which Queen?
Q4) The Ottoman Empire occupied Belgrade: on 27th August, 1521.   Belgrade is now the capital city of where?
Q5) Finally … 28th August, 1916, saw Italy declare war on where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Moldova declared itself independent from the USSR: on 27th August,  1991.   What’s the capital of Moldova?
A1) Chișinău.   (It’s pronounced KISH-e-NOW.)
Q2) The BBC made its first overseas broadcast: on 27th August, 1950.   Across what: the English Channel, the Irish Sea or the Atlantic?
A2) The English Channel.
Q3) The world’s first jet powered plane — the Heinkel 178 — made its first flight: on 27th August of which year?
A3) 1939.
Q4) The east coast of the US was hit by a hurricane: on 27th August, 2011.   Which hurricane: Henry, Irene or Jane?
A4) Irene.
Q5) Finally … The sacking of Rome ended: on 27th August, 410 AD.   The Visigoths sacking it were led by whom: Alaric, Alan or Algernon?
A5) Alaric.
As I had a huge crush on birthday girl, Kim Appleby?   Here’s possibly the best Mel and Kim song going …

And a thought …
“The less a writer discusses his work—and himself—the better. The master chef slaughters no chickens in the dining room; the doctor writes prescriptions in Latin; the magician hides his hinges, mirrors, and trapdoors with the utmost care.”
Jack Vance, August 28, 1916 – May 26, 2013.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        They went OK, actually, Olga: but we’ve got another batch, today!   Oh, JUST so you know, there’s a theme on Thursday … just in case you need something for The show.

†        I get the feeling Walpole left office when he couldn’t make anymore cash, Debbi.   Trump on the other hand …

I see there was a major police presence just around the corner from you. Guy in Queens hospital Romford and 2 early 20's guys arrested. looks like the police taped off the pavement by the pub almost opposite Brentwood station.

I'm intrigued. I won't be on the radio after this Thursday until October, so I'll have to go with a bang... So to speak.

Trump is all about the money! :)

1. The Hague
2. Israel
3. Ellery Queen
4. Serbia
5. Germany

I agree with Jack Vance about the writing process. The less it's discussed, the better! :)
