Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-9-2016: Mario & Company …

Oh, BOY … !

I’m … vaguely nervous …

And vaguely grateful for my luck.

Luck, you say … ?

I got a call, yesterday morning, telling me I’ve got an interview, today.   At a local pub.

Five years ago?   Non-drinker that I am, I wouldn’t have considered it.

These days, I’m not so fussy!

There’s more.

I got a call, a bit later: when I was at a friend’s, not far from mine.

That was a second interview: on Thursday.

I get back home, a little later, and check my email.   To find I’d been invited to a third interview, next Tuesday.

I’m VERY aware that I’ve put some work in.   And will have to put in more, to land one of these.

But … ?   I’m quietly hoping I get one of them.

It’s not just the money.   It’s the psychological effect of having a job that’s the appreciated bit.

In all this … ?

In all this, I mentioned, yesterday, that I was going to look into a local bookshop: to see what had happened with my CV.

Well …

Not much.

However, the manager told me he’ll be passing it along to the recruiter for the area.

That’ll lead to something …

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Even temp work, over Christmas, would be good!

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Angel*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 13th September saw the release of Super Mario Bros: the first in the series of popular video games.   In which year?
Q2) The game was released on what — in Japan — was called the Family Computer, or Famicom.   The Famicon was called what, in the USA and Europe?
Q3) The main playable characters are Mario and his brother.   Mario is a what: German electrician, Italian plumber or Spanish guitar?
Q4) What’s Mario’s brother called?
Q5) In the game, Mario’s trying to rescue whom … ?
Q6) Who does that character need rescuing from?
Q7) The game — and its many spin-offs — take place in a fictional kingdom called what?
Q8) Super Mario Bros was a follow up to a 1983 arcade game: called what?
Q9) Super Mario Bros was published by which Japanese company: Sony, Nintendo or Sega?
Q10) Finally … Mario first appeared as Jumpman.   In which Arcade game?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Cave paintings were discovered in Lascaux.   On 12th September of which year?
A1) 1940.
Q2) Lascaux, its caves and the paintings, are in France.   But in which French department: Charente, the Dordogne or Haute-Garonne?
A2) Dordogne.
Q3) The paintings, themselves, date to when: the monolithic, paleolithic or neolithic?
A3) The UpperPaleolithic.
Q4) The best known of the paintings are in the Hall of the what: Bulls, Horses or Deer?
A4) Bulls.
Q5) Finally … Since 1998, the caves have been plagued by fungus.   A fungus said to have been caused by what: invading ants, air-conditioning or warm weather?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock-n-roll.”
Shigeru Minamoto, designer of Super Mario Bros.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day.

*        Cheers, Angel!   Hopefully, the recruiter will get back to me.   Actually?   So will one of the others!   (The one next week would be good!)

†        Oh, I intend to have a good week, Olga!   The fact I’ve had three interviews come up, on one day?   Is hopeful: I know that for certain!   (Various shades of government wanted to introduce ID, here in the UK.   I agree, it’s not a BAD idea.   But the last time it was mooted?   I was also out of work.  It was still a good idea … apart from the associated £45 charge for one.   When that sort of money’s your bills for the week, it’s not impressive.)

‡        I hope so, Debbi: I just hope they get back to me.   Actually … ?   I just hope I do well with any one of the other three … !   (Oh, don’t worry about missing the planes: I missed it, myself … )
