Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10th February, 2020.

10th February, 2020.

I think I can honestly say that — for the moment, and in this part of the world — Storm Ciara seems to have calmed down … a bit.

I’ve not been outside … as yet …

But … ?

I’m not expecting too much disruption for anything I want to do.

I just hope I’m right about that …

Did I mention it’s my birthday in a few weeks time?

I have a very good idea what I’ll be getting.

I hope I’m right.

It would mean I could blow — and, importantly, job hunt — on the go.

And … and get to install Ubuntu on something.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 10th February 2019, saw the death of Jan-Michael Vincent.   He played Stringfellow Hawke: in which TV series?
Q2) 10th February, 1983, saw the Metropolitan police launch a murder investigation: after human  remains were found in a drain in Muswell Hill.   Who was charged with six counts of murder, as a result?
Q3) 10th February, 1898, saw the birth of Bertolt Brecht.   Which of his plays feature a character called Azdak?
Q4) 10th February, 1258, saw Baghdad fall to whom: the Mongols, the Huns or the Ostrogoths?
Q5) Finally … ?   Ras Al Khaimah joined what, on 10th February, 1972?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 9th February saw the birth of actor Joe Pesci.   In which year?
A1) 1943.
Q2) His first film was in 1976.   What was it called?
Q3) He plays Tommy DeVito: in which film?
Q4) In which film does Jo Pesci play cousin Vinny?
Q5) Finally?   Pesci appears as Russell Bufalino: in 2019’s The Irishman.   Who distributed The Irishman?
A5) Netflix.
Here’s a thought …
“First comes a full stomach, then comes ethics.”
The Thrupenny Opera, Berthold Brecht, 10 February 1898 – 14 August 1956.
And a song co written by Brecht …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*      The kernel panic’s not too much of an issue, Olga: it’s basically the Mac equivalent of a blue screen of death.   There’s a software conflict that caused my machine to fall over.   If it keeps happening, I’ll need to done some fiddling about.   It’s not necessarily stunning, though.   I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you: if you could pass my condolences to the family?

†        It’s the one that inspired Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein novel, Debbi: it looks like quite the visitor attraction!   As for Catalina … ?   Overall, it’s been ok: the niggles I’ve had are relatively minor: dragging links to the desktop, what-have-you.   The big worry I had?   Was Apple’s replacing the iTunes app with the Music, TV and Podcast apps.   Which — overall — has gone a lot better than expected.   And, as I mentioned to Olga?   A one off kernel panic’s a relatively minor glitch: that would only need seeing to, if it happened frequently.   What surprised me was the fact I haven’t seen one happen for years.   It’s the usual drill: back everything up, first.   (I’ve posted the Can You Hear Me? review to Twitter.   So you know!)

As an EXTRA thought, Debbi?

Under Mohave, I need to keep iTunes open: in order for my Apple TV to access my music library.

Since the Catalina upgrade, my Apple TV seems to able to access my music library, regardless of if the Music app was open.

Additionally?

Granted I’ve lost a few 32-bit games — which I’ll miss — but have been able to find a few 64 bit alternatives.
