Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-8-2021: International Left Hander’s Day

13th August, 2021.

I don’t know if you’re in the UK: or know much about us.

Generally?

We’re not a country that’s got wide spread gun-ownership: nor a country that has a huge gun culture, in the same way that the USA does.

So last night’s news — that five people had died as the result of a shooting incident in Plymouth, and that the shooter shot himself — is  shocking, to say the least.

One of those victims has been described as a child under ten.

My condolences go to the families who lost members.

But … ?

I’m wondering why someone would happily shoot people at six o’clock in the evening …

It turns out that Amazon are making a TV version of The Lord of The Rings.

A version set many thousands of years before the novels.

It could be worth watching, I think.

The reason I mention it … ?

Is that Amazon’s moved production from New Zealand, to the UK.

I’m assuming as a result of New Zealand closing its borders, yesterday.

Either way?

I’d not mind seeing this.

It has to be shorter than The Silmarillion …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Trevor‡, and Debbi^ and putting in their answers: with all four scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s left-handers questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        13th August is International Left Hander’s Day.   Sinister is the word for left.   In which language: Mandarin, Latin or Greek?

Q2)        In heraldry, a Bend Sinister — or Baton sinister — is a bar on a coat of arms.   It tells you the owner of the arms is what: left handed, illegitimate or has been disowned?

Q3)        According to 2019 reports, left-handedness has genetic components: components that affect the cytoskeletons of human cells.   The cytoskeleton is usually compared to what: scaffolding, ladders or bricks?

Q4)        If you’re hopeless at dancing — or football — you’re said to have two left … what

Q5)        The Left Handed Man was a 1913 short film.   Directed by whom: D. W. Griffith, F. W. Murnau or Robbert Wiene.

Q6)        I publish the questions on Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar under a Creative Commons license: license that let reuse them, under certain conditions.   These licenses are also called Copy what licenses?   (It should be obvious.)

Q7)        Moving on, slightly … actors, Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, and Robert Sean Leonard, are all left handed.   All three have appeared in which US medical drama: ER, Grey’s Anatomy or House?

Q8)        The late Rik Makall was left handed.   He played Drop Dead Fred in which 1991 film?

Q9)        Actress, Emma Thompson is left handed.   She appeared in Tutti Frutti with which Scottish actor: David Tennent, Peter Capaldi or Robbie Coltrane?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Writer, comedian, actress and presenter, Sue Perkins, is left handed.   She’s recently been named as the new chair of which radio show?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        12th August is World Elephant Day.   How many elephant species are native to Africa: One, two or three?
A1) Two.

Q2)        Name one of those species.
A2)        The African Bush Elephant, or the African Forest Elephant.

Q3)        The Indian — or Asian — elephant has smaller what than the other species: eyes, ears or trunks?
A3)        Ears.

Q4)        Female elephants are cows.   Male elephants are what?
A4)        Bulls.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Female elephants are cows.   Young elephants are what: calves, cubs or kittens?
A5)        Calves.
Here’s an observation …
“Handwriting is one of the biggest sources of actual disadvantage for left-handed people, other than for those forced to work with certain machinery.”
From the Wikipedia entry, Bias against left-handed people.
And a playlist full of left handed artists …

Wilko Johnson of Dr Feelgood and David Bowie both play guitar right handedly, but are left handed.

Jimi played left handedly.

Paul McCartney and Ringo are both left handed: as is former UB40 frontman, Ali Campbell.

Anything Left Handed, the shop I mention in today’s Teaser video, can be found, here.

And sign up for the Left-hander’s Club, here.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I caught the first episode, last night, Olga: it’s definitely fun.   One or two of the live action cast turn up in the series: and aren’t scared of taking the Micky out of themselves.   Jonathan Frakes — Will Riker — is in the next one: it sounds like he’s got his tongue very firmly in his cheek!

        Hello, Mum!

That was where I forgot to centre it, Trevor: it was a video typo, if you will.   Today’s intro, on the other hand … …

^        Very true, Debbi!   (I’m hoping today’s set isn’t TOO hard on your hand!   Personally?   I’m just glad I found the Flip button in Keynote!   It came in handy for the video.)
