10th January, 2025.
Yay!
It’s Friday … !
Which means … ?
Hopefully, my nephew, Jude, will be over.
And hopefully … ?
I’ll be catching the next episode of Silo: the show’s rather good.
~≈⚔️≈~
Oh … JUST as a last thought … ?
I’ve had a new bit of kit arrive for my Mac: a Verbatim 43888, a 4k bluray reading optical drive, one that works with specific bits of ripping software.
Hopefully?
That’ll be useful.
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?
Q1) 10th January is Majority Rule Day. Where: Cuba, the Bahamas or Jamaica?Q2) Jeff Beck died on 10th January, 2023. He played which instrument: the guitar, the mandolin or the theremin?Q3) The first TinTin strip began publication on 10th January, 1929. It was called Tintin in the Land of the whatQ4) Rod Stewart was born on 10th January, 1945. He will be playing the Legends slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. He last played Glastonbury in which year of this century?Q5) Finally … ? A gusher started on 10th January, 1901: at the Spindletop oil field. Spindletop is in which US state?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) The Feast of the Black Nazarene is held on 9th January. Where: the Philippines, the Azores or the Canaries?Q2) Connecticut joined the USA on 9th January, 1788. Yale, the state’s best known university, is a member of the what league: Ivy League, Fairy League or Doo-by League?Q3) Imelda Staunton was born on 9th January, 1956. Who does she play in Netflix series, The Crown?A3) Queen Elizabeth 2nd. (The clips of her last appearance as the Queen in the last minutes of the series? Is one of the most emotional things I’ve seen on the site.)Q4) Muggsy Bogues was born on 9th January, 1965. At 5’3”, he was the shortest player to play what: baseball, basketball or American Football?A4) Basketball. A quick Google search tells me the average height of a basketball player in 2014 — Muggsy’s last year as a professional — was 6’6”. At not much taller than me? Muggsy had an advantage: as he pointed out in the quote, his height allowed him to steal the ball, mid-bounce, from taller players.Q5) Finally … ? Michael Heseltine resigned his Cabinet position: on 9th January, 1986. What Cabinet position had he held?
Here’s a thought …
“We were sitting round the fire and we said, ‘Why shouldn’t we do a book?’. And so we started and now it’s a classic and referred to as such.”Barbara Hepworth, 10 January 1903 – 20 May 1975.
And a song …
The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum!
† Muggsy certainly had an advantage, Olga!
Cheers for the photos: I couldn’t spot you in any of them! I did spot someone I believe is a colleague of yours: and put him through Image Playground. It’s turned him in to a redhead!
I’m not sure if you can get the optical drive I got — a Verbatim 43888 — in the States: but these things come in handy for archiving. (The one on Amazon’s US page says it works with Mac OS X Cheetah. Go look that one up!)
