Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2025.

15th February 2025.

Right …

I’ve been doing this — writing this blog — for some time.

And, as part of that … ?

I’ve been opening emails … and pressing various button, to publish posts.

Except this morning.

As … ?

As, it turns out, BT’s email service is down.

Why?

I don’t know.

But it’s tempting to blame the current US president!

At any rate … ?

I get the feeling that — once the service is back up — my email client’s going to be swamped … !

Hmmm …

I’ve just noticed this piece on the BBC’s Red button service, telling us how a prisoner in HMP Peterborough has been given time for assault.

Telling us the inmate attacked a guard with sugar dissolved in boiling hot water.

Don’t ask how I know …

But they used to call that ‘jugging’ …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        15th February, 2001, saw Nature publish the first complete what: proof of de Fermat’s last theorem, first draft of the Human Genome or details of a black hole?

Q2)        15th February is Susan B. Anthony Day.   Where: Florida, Texas or Oregon?

Q3)        15th February is International Duties Memorial Day.   Where: Russia, China or Thailand?

Q4)        Matt Groening was born on 15th February, 1954.   He’s the creator of which animated series: Family Guy, The Simpsons or King of The Hill?

Q5)        Finally … ?   15th February is the feast day of Claude La Colombière.   He’s a patron saint of whom: butchers, bakers or toymakers?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The first sound version of Dracula was released on 14th February.   Of which year of the 1930s?
A1)        1931.

Q2)        It was directed by whom: Tod Browning, James Whale or Ed Wood?
A2)        Tod Browning.

Q3)        Who played Dracula, in this version of Dracula: Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman or Bela Lugosi?
A3)        Bela Lugosi. (Cue the music … )

Q4)        Who distributed Dracula: Universal, Warner Brothers or RKO?
A4)        Universal.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The film was added to the library of Congress. In which year: 1998, 2000 or 2002?
A5)        2000.
Here’s a thought …
“Cartooning is for people who can’t quite draw and can’t quite write. You combine the two half-talents and come up with a career.”
Matt Groening, born 15th February, 1954.
And a song …

The next ten question set is on 19th February: it’s about EastEnders.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I’ll be honest, Olga: I think the Job Centre’s systems are doing a lot of the heavy lifting, there.   The client facing end seems to be designed to be as simple as possible: and, I suspect, work on as many smart phones as possible.   The page that tells us how to use it, tells us we can only use it with Chrome or Safari — the default browsers on Android or iOS — is what makes me think that.
Yeah, the carpenter was quick: he got the cupboard doors under the sink, done, fast: and had the wall mounted cupboards assessed, quickly, too.   Now all I need to do … ?   Is wait for my landlords to tell me when they’re doing this.
Oh, and for BT to get their bums in gear!   Bloody emails!

‡        That it was, Debbi.   Right now, though … ?   I’m wondering when the next movie’s going to turn up.   I still think Henry Cavill would be a good casting call.
