Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-8-2025 — International Left Handers Day. (Ten Question set)

13th August, 2025: International Left Handers Day.

Hmmm …

I’ve used my phone to record the raw footage for today’s introductory video.

And … ?

I think putting it through my usual post-production process … has made a dog’s dinner of it!

With both Da Vinci Resolve, and iMovie.

If anyone’s got three hundred quid, spare, for a copy of Final Cut Pro, I can have a go with that … !

~≈💻≈~

Lurking around, out there, is a web browser called Google Chrome.

Yes: that Google Chrome.

You’ve got a copy of it, if you’ve got a Chromebook, or an Android mobile device: and may have a copy on your Mac, PC or iOS device.

I have a copy, myself: for the (thankfully rare) websites that only work with it, or Microsoft Edge*.

Well …

It seems that a company called Perplexity has put in a bid to buy Google Chrome.

Something that could be seen as a good thing: given that Google are having legal wrangles, over their dominance of the search engine market.

It could be a wise thing to do: just as Microsoft’s investing money into Apple many years ago, was.   (Microsoft was having similar legal issues: Apple, serious financial ones.)

But … ?

I can’t see Google agreeing to the purchase: especially if it means losing control over their browser.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s ten, Left-hander’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss have all been in the Matrix movies.   Who’s the odd one out: Keanu, Laurence or Carrie-Anne?   (I’m rather pleased with that question.)

Q2)        In the UK, people drive on the left hand side of the road.   In a standard UK car, the steering wheel is on which side of the car?

Q3)        Stage left is from the point of view of an actor on stage: and is the left hand side of the stage.   Stage left is also house right.   In other words, the right hand side of the stage, for whom: the actor or the audience?

Q4)        Name either one of the two left handed members of the Beatles.

Q5)        ‘Sinister’ is the term for the left hand side.   In what: heraldry, fencing or football?

Q6)        A knife with an ornamental handle in the shape of a left handed gladiator was found in 2024.   Where: Hadrian’s Wall, the Great Pyramid or Stonehenge?

Q7)        According to one BBC article, Sulphur-crested cockatoos are right ‘handed’. True or false?

Q8)        Lizzo is a left handed rapper and singer.   She’s also a trained what: flautist, violinist or cellist?

Q9)        Jeremy the Snail died in 2017.   He had a left handed what?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Anthony Blinken is left handed.   He served as US what: President, Secretary of State or Treasurer?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        12th August is International Youth Day.   According to whom: the Roman Catholic Church, the United Nations or the European Union?
A1)        The United Nations.

Q2)        In the UK, 12th August is what’s called the ‘Glorious Twelfth’.   It’s the start of the what-hunting season: grouse hunting, duck hunting to moose hunting?
A2)        Grouse hunting.

Q3)        12th August is the feast day of Saint Euplius of Catania.   Where is Catania: Sicily, Tuscany or Umbria?
A3)        Sicily.

Q4)        Una Stubbs died on 12th August, 2021.   She played Mrs Hudson in which series: The Strange World of Gurney Slade, Worzel Gummidge or Sherlock?
A4)        Sherlock.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Youtuber, Dream, was born on 12th August, 1999.   He usually makes content about what: Eve Online, Minecraft or Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
A5)        Minecraft.
Here’s a thought …
“Handedness is often defined by one’s writing hand.”
From the Wikipedia entry on handedness.
A playlist with lefties …

And an article I found interesting …

The next ten question set is on 25th August: it’s about Nottinghamshire.

Please mention it’s Left-handers Day to left handers you meet.

Comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Both browsers share a common code base.   And both Microsoft, and Google, have been accused of using the Embrace, extend, and extinguish strategy in order to promote their browsers.
The tactic means that a given web-page will only work in these two browsers.   (I do surveys for the ONS: I can do the surveys in any one of the four different browsers on my machine, but can only use one specific page on the site — one that lets me share banking, shopping, and browser history data — with Google Chrome: the ONS site tells me I have to use Edge or Chrome, as the relevant extension is only made for those apps.   I can use everything else in any of my four browsers.   There’s an irony, there …)

        Hello, Mum!

Yeah, I think we have talked about it, Olga, and I take your point: juggling a brolly, and a stick, would be awkward … !   But if you CAN figure out how to use one, one with a UV filter would help.   I just wonder it the ones, here, have that protection!
Ah … Custom ROMS, and altering boot loaders: no wonder the phone business is making a fortune.   That process looks easy — ha! — but is something to try on a spare phone, if you have time, a jewellers screwdriver set … and the patience of a saint!

§        Hang on, Debbi, you mean you got Dixon Hill mixed up with Remington Steele … or mixed up Christina Chong with Remington Steele?   Because you’re right, Christina really doesn’t look like Pierce Brosnan!
        More like Lorna Bucket …
