Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th August 2025.

20th August, 2025.

OK, I’ll admit it: I’m old enough to remember the buying frenzy sparked by both the Cabbage Patch Kids, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

I was working in a toy shop, when the Turtles craze kicked off.

So … ?

I’m never surprised when another craze explodes.

This time?   It’s for Labubu dolls.

About the only positive thing we can say?

Is that Pop Mart, the company that makes the things … ?

Has seen its share price, rocket!

Talking of the Turtles?

Did I mention my nephew was a fan of them, when he was younger?

My nephew was a fan of them, when he was younger.

That’s not totally irrelevant: he was over last night.

And, yes: he’s released another Rocket League video.

Feel free to hit the like button.

Just as a last thought, before we move on?

I caught the first episode of Wednesday’s second season, last night.

Billie Piper puts in her first appearance as Capri: the music teacher at Nevermore Academy, and a music teacher … who’s an ex pop-star!

I hate to say it … but isn’t Billie a bit young to be getting typecast?

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        20th August is the feast day of Oswine of Deira.   His major shrine is where: Sunderland, Tynemouth or Wallsend?

Q2)        20th August is also Saint Stephen’s Day.   Where: Austria, Hungary or Romania?

Q3)        20th August is the feast day of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.   He co-founded what: the Knights Hospitaller, the Knights Templar or the Knights of the Round Table?

Q4)        William Booth died on 20th August, 1912.   He and his wife, Catherine, founded what: the Church of the Tin Vagabond, the Salvation Army or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Roman Catholic feast day of Samuel is on 20th August.   The First Book of Samuel is in what: the Old Testament or the New Testament?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th August is World Humanitarian Day.   According to whom: the EU, UN or NATO?
A1)        The United Nations, or UN.

Q2)        That organisation’s Humanitarian body — the group that coordinates humanitarian aid in emergencies — is the OCHA: the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian … what?
A2)        Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Q3)        According to Wikipedia, humanitarian aid is short term help.   Long term help is called what: humanitarian help, humanitarian assistance or humanitarian oysters?
A3)        Humanitarian assistance.

Q4)        Again, According to Wikipedia?   The WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation.   It proves what sort of aid: food aid, financial aid or medical aid?
A4)        Food aid.   (WFP stands for World Food Programme.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The UNHCR is the United Nations High Commissioner for whom?
A5)        Refugees.
Here’s a thought …
“We see things only as we are constructed to see them, and can gain no idea of their absolute nature.”
From “From Beyond”, by H. P. Lovecraft,   (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937).
And a song …

The next ten question set is on 25th August: it’s about Nottinghamshire.

Comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I’ll have to take your word on the pictures, Olga: it seems El País is behind a paywall!   Either way … the fires sound horrendous.   I can only hope you’re right: that the wind eases, and rain starts, soon.   I suspect the water pollution can be dealt with, far more easily than the fires!
I hope the Festa goes well: it sounds like Barcelona needs a lift!
I don’t know if there’s a Spanish, or Catalan, linux distribution doing the rounds: but there’s a list of Spanish language distros on Wikipedia.   Apparently, Molinux — the one sponsored by the government of Castilla-La Mancha — has versions named after the characters in Don Quixote.

It’s probably worth wish listing, Debbi: assuming it’s on any other than Amazon … !

Sorry about the pics. Everybody has to pay to read the content of the newspaper, although, when I checked, they'd made some of the content about the fires free, due to the situation, but that might have changed by now. It is becoming a problem, in general, because if you want to read the news from different sources, it would be quite expensive to have to subscribe to all the newspapers... I guess perhaps through the libraries...
