Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-10-2025 — The Today Programme

28th October, 2025: The Today Programme.

Hmmm … that could’ve come at a better time …

I’ve got Venetian blinds in my flat.

And have one on my front room window, one that’s been here, ever since I’ve moved in.

Quite an expensive one, if I remember rightly … !

At any rate … ?

The string pulley, the thing that adjusts how open the individual slats are … has given up the ghost.

Which means … ?

Well, I’m going to have to:
  • Stay in the dark until I raise the money.
  • Ask my increasingly tall nephew to help me put a new one up.
  • Be thankful it’s not stuck in ‘Open’.
  • Marvel at the price differences on Amazon!
Yep: there’s price differences.

A good set of replacement blinds, ones that will last as long as the current ones, cost upwards of ninety pounds.

An affordable set, one that will last about five minutes?

Around twenty.

Frankly?

It’s Commander Vimes’ Boots, again …

Oh … I mentioned, a few days ago, that my Work Coach — my case worker from the Job Centre — had been replaced: by a trainee!

That rookie worker has now been in touch: and we have a phone meeting scheduled for today.

At 14:30.

I’d’ve been happier had it been by video: I’d get to see what they look like.

But … ?

I’ll get by with an audio call.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum, Olga* and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Today programme first aired on 28th October.   Of which year of the 1950s?

Q2)        It originally aired on which BBC Radio station: the Home Service, the World Service or the Light Programme?

Q3)        It currently airs on which BBC Radio station: Radio 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Q4)        Name any one of the show’s current presenters.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who was the Today programme’s longest serving presenter: John Humphrys, Brian Redhead or Sue McGregor?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        27th October is the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.   The date was chosen by whom: UNESCO, the UPU or the WHO?

Q2)        The group that organised the day is planning to do what to various archives: digitise them, paint them or cover them in acid?
A2)        Digitise them.

Q3)        27th October is Ohi Day.   Where: France, Greece or Hungary?
A3)        Greece.

Q4)        27th October is International Religious Freedom Day.   Where: Canada, the USA or Mexico?
A4)        The USA.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Barry Williams went on a shooting spree on 27th October.   In which year of the 1970s?
A5)        1978.
Here’s a thought …
“If you want to drop a word in the ear of the nation, then this is the programme in which to do it.”
Brian Redhead, speaking of the show.
A compilation of ‘Best Ofs’ …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 31st October: it’s about “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Where possible, AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum§!   (It was Greece, not France!)

One of these days, Olga§, Wikipedia’s going to make its mind up about dates!   Dratted site, ruining my quizzes!   (I think I’m going to have to add a warning to the Teaser Text template!)
Yeah: sleeping in is always nice!

That would be nice, Debbi§!   I get anxious about these things!

§        Here’s today’s Today Programme ‘Thought for the Day’: deliver by Professor Mona Siddiqui.
